  1. our 1-2 hitters have been awful so far. jose needs to move down in the lineup. pronto.

    Uribe

uribe will get plenty of at bats this year. most likely he'll be in the lineup against all lefty's, either at 2nd or ss. and he'll occasionally play against righties spelling harris and jose. depending on how hot he is or how cold harris is the number of at bats against righties could really increase.
  3. i guess the other side of the coin would be: isn't it fair that we all be allowed to contribute the same amount? without going into an exact amount, should the government regulate a cap on"soft money" so that we all have an equitable stake. every citizen, regardless of weath, only gets one vote. should we extrapolate that to campaign contributions so that everyone has the same amount vested. obviously you can abstain from voting so you could also abstain from making a contribution.
  4. what's the state of campaign finance reform right now? it seems like it was a big issue and sort of faded away. did anything ever get passed? iirc we capped hard money but soft money is still the problem.

    Rooting out all smut

this has been a great disccussion. not so much regarding the simon finger thing, but regarding free speech, individual rights, and society values. It seems that it is impossible to have individual liberties and society values be in complete agreement with one another. for the most part i would say that i side with individual liberties when they are in conflict with the society values because i believe that protecting minority (unpopular) speech is more important than regulating people to conform to what the society (popular) opinion is. that said, i agree with tex that there are situations where regulations and limits are needed. i'm not for an everything goes society. i just don't know if there is a workable solution that can be used and applied to everything. obviously when you are dealing with public tv and radio there are different standards that apply than to cable/satellite. so how do we have regulations and limits while still protecting an individuals liberties and rights? do we just allow the marketplace to decide what is "right" and what is "wrong"? or do we have our elected official decide for us? i think it's important to remember that it is great to be able to have these discussions, and that these problems are not life/death variety but are still very important.
  6. all you guys seem not to understand how the election laws work in the U.S. it's really very simple. here is how it works. a vote for bush= a vote for bush a vote for kerry= a vote for kerry a vote for a third party candidate= well, that's just a wasted vote America, all hail our two party system
  7. i would much rather have our starters dominate the early innings and the team fade when the minor leaguers come in than the other way around. the only concern i have so far has been team defense, and most of those problems are being caused by guys that won't be coming to chicago.
  8. didn't seinfeld do an episode where elaine was dating a guy who had the same name as a serial killer and she was trying to get him to change his name? i could have sworn his name was joel rifkin, or something really close to that.
  9. wow, that is sweet. i wonder if all those games still work? i wish i still had my old game systems, nes, snes, genesis. although i'm very happy with my gamecube right now, super monkey ball rules!
  10. i think it would have depended on what a-rod's contract was restructured to. remember they were sending money to texas to pay a portion of manny's salary and i believe that maggs makes more than nomar this year. so i think they potentially could have had a significant increase in payroll. and for the record, i don't think john henry gives a flying #$%% about the little guy. this is about the red sox and yankees. if he cared about the small market teams it would have been obvious to him that something needed to be done long before the yanks got a-rod.
  11. hey, that sounds eerily similar to what kenny said at soxfest. does he teach a media relations/public speaking class or something?
  12. regarding the specific ad (which i didn't see) i can't really say. but i think ATA advertise during all chicago sports teams telecasts. i think i've seen them advertise during sox and cubs games, bulls games obviously, not sure about hawks. and i believe they are sponsors for the sox and bulls. was this ad a whole production regarding maddux or was it just like a generic ATA commercial with a voiceover asking maddux to come to the cubs?
  13. that's true, but i believe that a huge majority of thier flights are originated (not sure if that's the right word) from midway airport, although i think they do have a couple of international flights that leave from o'hare.
  14. is that a rhetorical question? ehh, maybe i just read too much into it, no problem.
  15. i think the posters here that are defending cotts a being a bit unfair. go back and read the original post by baggio. the questions he poses are fair ones. he doesn't say "cotts sucks, he pitched horrible in four starts blah blah blah." he was only questioning his stuff and control, not his performance, and if you are someone that doesn't follow the minors and all you have is what you see at the major league level, it's a concern, more so with his control than his stuff. he just wanted some further info on why people like him and the next thing you know people are accusing him of calling cotts a bust. throwing out any pitcher's first four starts is meaningless. it doesn't make someone great in the future or a future bust. so it doesn't make a good argument either for or against a pitcher's future performance. it's equally unimportant whether they sucked in four starts and turn out to be jim palmer or have a great first four starts and turn into a bust. personally i think he will be very good, his strikeout rate in the minors is very good, and that is a great indicator of future success. for the people that do follow the minors and give us the great info and reports, thank you, it's much appreciated. but try to realize there is a difference between questioning a player's ability and saying a guy blows.
  16. i didn't know they were running it on mtv2, i'll have to watch for it. thanks.
  17. i'm waiting for Amanda Bynes to send me a personalized picture. i won't hold my breath, considering i haven't asked her for one.
  18. Space Moose. end of discussion. MTV, bring back 3 South, best evah.
  19. buehrle doesn't rank as high in fantasy because he doesn't strike enough people out. i would rank webb, bartolo and probably wade miller ahead of him.
  20. i would do that deal. mainly because i don't think garland will ever be anything more than a number three and i think ishii is a three or four and edwin is projected as a one or two. that said i hope jon has a great year and takes a couple steps forward in consistency.
  21. from the description that people have given, he sounds alot like a jamie moyer type pitcher. anyway the reason people love him is because he posted here a couple times.
  22. personally, i'm looking forward to a new Local H album. comes out early april and will be titled "Whatever happened to P.J. Soles?"
