  1. Any chance the Sox can make a deal to get him.....as a reliever?
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 12:01 AM) That's hardly a fair argument. San Diego hasn't been competitive since 1998. I know that he won a CY Young and an ERA title and he's only 27. How often do the Sox get those kind of pitchers? Exactly. And would we feature a rotation with 4 lefties next year? Not likely, we gave up a couple of guys who could be great but have yet to prove it for a guy who has proven to be an ace. What's with Chicago, first the Bears get a real quarterback now the Sox get another#1 starter for years to come. Buehrle, Peavy, Danks and Floyd makes me happy!
  3. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:34 AM) bring wheezey in to pinch bunt? When was the last time we successfully bunted or performed a hit and run? The Brewer series??
  4. Nice night from our bullpen. Par for the course, one facet of the team looks great while the others struggle.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:22 AM) Pods is playing with zero confidence right now. We've seen this from him before in the past. Really be a good idea to give him a rest sometime this weekend. He's a step or two slow out there. The only problem with that is then we have to play either Wise, Kotsay, or both if Q's foot is too sore.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 03:30 AM) What a f***ing stupid move to take out Richard. He's been dealing the whole game, it's only a 1 run game, and you don't even give your starter that got you thus far a shot at closing it out? So f***ing what if his pitch count was at 116. You think a couple more pitches are gonna make his arm fall off? It made absolutely no sense not to put him back out there with a short leash. To make matters worse, you put in Jenks who has struggled severely in his last 2 or 3 save chances. Pure stupidity. Way too go Guillen, you ruin what was a very fun game to watch by taking out your starter because of a "high pitch count". f***ing stupid. But you were probably screaming at Oz for leaving him in for the 8th before he got the dp...
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) I'm happy you feel that way. As long as Zook and Weis are around to get all of the good Illinois players though, Iowa will have problems having any sustained success because they need to be able to raid Illinois in order to be good, so to be fair, it would be hard for anybody to right the ship at Iowa. The main reason Iowa was so good earlier this decade was due to the fact that Illinois had Ron Turner and Notre Dame had Bob Davie/Ty Willingham, and they couldn't recruit for s***. But the Hawkeyes talent level isn't great right now, they aren't recruiting well, and they are like an SEC team (or Penn State) in terms of the number of arrests they have. Ferentz is perhaps the most overpaid coach in America now that Fulmer was fired, and if he's not he's certainly top 5. When Iowa finished three years in the Top 10, we didn't have 5 star or 4 star recruits. We had Dallas Clark and Bruce Nelson, both walk ons, Eric Steinbach and Robert Gallery both converted tight ends, CJ Jones and Brad Banks from JUCO and Bob Sanders, who was only offered 1 scholly, from us. When we got the glamorous 4 and 5 star guys, especially from the Chicago area we've sucked. I'm not saying it was due to them, but those Top 25 classes we pulled in never panned out. So Zook and Weis can keep getting the All American high school guys. But what really has that done for those schools?
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 04:07 AM) Sorry for freaking out as we lost one, two, three, four and five in a row and not believing. Those who never once did not b**** at our lack of balls, heart, fire, whatever ... take a bow. We're all guilty of doubting this team at some point this season. But "Big Mo" is on our side and like another poser said, the Sox are in and that's all it takes! Had we never won in 05 there wouldn't be this feeling or doubt or expectation or whatever the hell has caused me to shake from 6:30 to 9:00 tonight. But now we've punched our ticket and anything goes. It's crazy to look back at the season as a whole and all the emotions we've felt from Alexei starting the first game in center, the questions on Danks/Floyd, the frustrations with Swisher, Thome, PK, and the total collapse of the pen at the end of the season. But the second season starts Thursday and there is no pressure on the Sox compared to 05 when they lead the division from April to October. Go Go White Sox!!!!!!
  9. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 03:25 AM) The experts at BBTN just unanimously picked the Rays in this series. F%&$ them. They also said we'd finish last or second to last this season. I remember around mid way when the Tigers got back to .500, Steve "Best GM Ever" Phillips said they would go on to win the division. We need to ride Big Mo and hope the Rays are overwhelmed by this new experience.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 02:20 AM) I didnt go in '05 because I just got married and now I cant go because I just had a kid, damn life milestones. gettin in the way of White Sox baseball. lol Damn that sucks. I was there in 05 and plan on going with wife and unborn child Sunday!
  11. QUOTE (sox1844 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) I must be crazy. I haven't heard one thing from Cabrera since the last time Joe Cowley tore him apart back in May. Not one thing. How can you say that the season is all about OC? The guy grinded and pulled him self from .206 with Swish and Thome all the way up to .283? With 19 stolen bases and solid D. If that doesn't deserve a little respect, I don't know what does. Geez. At least the respect to be able to answer a question truthfully with out being torn to shreds. I agree that good teams need an even mix, but how can you show up every day knowing that your manager will throw you under the bus in a hot second if he thinks he found a fall guy? Ozzie's comments were insane. I respect what he's done on the field, his D has not been of the gold glove variety though. What I'm saying is the guy has rubbed people the wrong way from the day he got here. And how many teams has this so called leader played for? If he was so valuable and had was such a great clubhouse presence, he would have stuck with a team by now. I love that he's been a fairly consistent bat and filled our leadoff role, but it is a contract season.... I just think feel his comments this week may not have been the best thing, no matter how much truth he spoke. Those words should have come from AJ, PK, JD, Thome, or Crede if he were playing. Guys who have been in the clubhouse for a few years. Not a guy who's a 1 year rent-a-player. As for Ozzie treating him as a fall guy I disagree. Ozzie said OC's comments were fine but he spoke from the perspective of the other guys on the team, watch what you say because it may come across the wrong way. Also, don't suddenly start talking to the media in the last week of the season and come off as some great team leader. Do that from day 1 no matter how you or the team is playing.
  12. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Problem is, Cabrera is a gamer and none of the guys that you just listed are. There are way way more guys that have the same attitude that Javy has, but yet Javy is the one who gets the flack for it. Everyone else does not. Cabrera doesn't have to stay, but I like his attitude currently. I want people who expect to win and are dying to go all out. Guys who are not afraid to pitch inside or flat out attack instead of nibbling. I want the AJ that supposedly nailed a coach in the nuts in SF. I want Carl Everett's approach. But you can't have an entire team of guys with that approach. Good teams have an even mix of guys who lead by example and guys who will chew a teamates ass when necessary. Right now we have too many "lead by example" guys and their example has been bad. JD has been a shell of himself for over a month, PK had a good couple of weeks all season and Thome is Thome, whether thats a good thing or bad. We have two guys right now making noise, AJ who has earned that right with the Sox but his production has been down and OC who hasn't fit in with this team since day one. Maybe if he didn't make the season all about "OC" then his teamates and fans wouldn't be upset with him telling everyone whats wrong with the team.
  13. The season has had some real bright spots but over the course of the year we've had some glaring weaknesses, and they were exploited real bad in these 3 games. Had there been more just a bit more consistency with the bats or not have the bullpen suck balls for 2 months, the division is signed and sealed weeks ago.
  14. God I want to puke. We lead the division for 3/4 of the year to puss out at the end like this?? Maybe it's better to not make the playoffs because these past 3 days have been the hardest 3 games of baseball to watch in some time.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) How about "we're always looking for ways to upgrade the team"? It comes across a lot less arrogant. You've listened to Kenny before right? I wouldn't hold your breath.
  16. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) It's not in his job to be a hypocrite. If he says that then i expect the playoffs this year. I don't remember seeing him quoted as guarenteeing playoffs. He said they are building a championship team, the Tigers made moves to contend with them. The Royals and Cleveland did the same things with their additions. Has the season started, are the Sox 10 games out of first already? No, there are still plenty of moves to be made, they didn't trade away what little minor league they have left to get Miggy and they didn't spend a ridiculous amount of cash to get Tori Hunter. The Marlins have won a couple of World Series without signing the best free agents around or making blockbuster trades and so did the Sox a couple years ago. I'm like everyone else, it would have been nice to grab a headlining star this offseason, but it hasn't happened and may not happen. What has a team of high dollar All-Stars done recently, ask the Yanks, Cubs, or Dodgers.
  17. What are you guys expecting Kenny to say, "We totally laid an egg this offseason. We suck, get your money back on the season tickets you've all bought!" I understand he's coming on a bit strong suggesting their a championship contender and now the Tigers can contend with them by the moves they made, but that's his job. I'd rather have a GM talking up his guys and what they've done than a stiff who sits around and complains about the set of guys he has. And why the surprise with what he says, Kenny has been a very proud, confident guy since the day he took over as GM.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) .264. Sweet. Does he get on base at a good rate along with that? (answer is no) Does he hit for power to go along with that? (answer is no). Is he under the age of 28 so there's some hope that he can get better as a player (answer is a resounding no). You are defending Erstad as if he's been good. He has not been good, and he better not be apart of the future plans for the Sox, seeing as how he's 33 and declining. Well said! I'm baggin on Erstad because he's past his prime and brings little to the team. But since it appears he'll be around next year, why keep playing him now and risk him blowing his ankle out swinging the bat again. Like someone else said, if he's healthy he'll start next year. Instead bring up someone young to see if they can cut in the Bigs and shelf Erstad the rest of the way so he'll be ready for next year.
  19. I swear, if I have to watch Erstad play another game I am going to kill myself. I love how he get's his AB's every other game rather than bringing up our so called "future" and letting them figure things out. Hell, they could put Harold Baines out there and get better production! Instead, Darin Erstad is the future, let's ride that pony all the way to the World Series. It's painful to watch him and McCrazy get the pt they do. Sorry, too many Miller Lites, tired of watching this hores*** team take the field each night and piss it away in one way or another. Thank God football is here to ease the pain.
  20. Great inning!! Put the crack pipe down DJ, Mack is not our best base runner. I can think of a few times his dumbass has run into easy outs at third or home.
  21. QUOTE(Balance @ May 11, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Sweeney should stay, Terrero should go. /thread Couldn't agree more. Why play Sweeney every day and then demote him because Thome is back?? You telling me Ozuna or Mack are better in LF than Sweeney? And Oz has played him in every OF position so that arguement is out as well, lose Terrero.
  22. Couldn't agree more, outstanding pitching and hits when we need them. Can't wait to see Sweeney in person tomorrow.
  23. This story comes up all the time. More than just Oz have wondered about their "air" system being turned on or off at crucial times. But since Oz made the comments, people will run wild about it and say he needs to "worry about his club instead of the ventilation."
  24. Are they seriously going to use him over Ced or AP at any time?? He may have had one hell of a game against tOSU in game one, but did he carry that over the entire year, week after week?? He sucked it off against Iowa late in the year and we sucked at stopping the run. He's identical to Freddy Russell and look how that panned out. At least Freddy tore it up for 2 years against Big 10 teams, but I'm a biassed opinion. I just think the Bears could have done a lot better with a 3rd round pick, I hope he proves me and a lot of others wrong though.
  25. How long has Walker been with the Sox? I don't remember a cold spell like this for quite some time. Some guys start hot, others take a month or so to heat up, but the entire team is frigid right now. Is that Walkers fault, are guys hurt, are some past their prime, did others peak a year or two ago??? This team is so frustrating right now and everyone collectively sucks at the plate. Our best bat is hurt, but like others said, Paulie is still seeing fastballs down the tube and he's supposed to be one of the best fastball hitters in the game. Yet he takes 2 down dead center then swings at the third in the dirt to K. Hawk and DJ rave about pitchers pitching their behinds off, yet I've seen too many strikes dead red go by looking or popped up in the infield to believe these are Cy Young candidates on the bump. Too damn frustrating.
