  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) No, it really isn't...but people refuse to use it for what it is...mlbtradeRUMORS. It's not mlb.com, and it's not Ken Rosenthal. It's a compilation of rumors collected from newspapers and a small number of insiders that have been vetted by Tim Dierkes. That's it. That's all. Just use it for what it is. And they tend to not post rumors that aren't from "reputable" sources. It's a pretty good source if you take it for what it is like you said.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) Hopefully they don't push too quickly. It would be nice if he didn't have to hit roadbumps in the system. Yea, another Gordo type player who doesnt know how to handle slumps!
  3. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) When I was kid, we used to pass through Gary on roadtrips to the east coast all the time. It ranked as one of the foulest smelling places I've ever encountered, and it still does. I haven't been that way in 13 years, but is that still the case? Most definitely.
  4. There was a pretty big article in Sunday's paper talking about how he was beefing up the committee on economic development or some sort by adding many new members to it from some of the top local businesses and expanding their direction from just bringing in company headquarters to bringing in more businesses in general to the city. This is such a smart move as many companies won't/don't want to move their HQ, and there is such a limit to the number of HQ out there. To be able to bring in additional campuses into the Chicago area should be the focus.
  5. Wooooo! Man I couldn't even remember the last deal that those two teams had done.
  6. Brewers->Browns->Orioles? ^Going off what I think was a hint.
  7. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) To be totally honest, I'm just gonna assume every horrible thing I've ever heard about Detroit and avoid it entirely. This might sound weird, but the thing I find fascinating about cities like Chicago and New York is that they're sort of...umm...Gotham-esque. Those pictures of the South Bronx, and the horror stories I've heard about Cabrini Green and the Robert Taylor Homes, all that crap happened within mere miles of beautiful, wealthy downtown areas like Manhattan and the Mag Mile. I find pictures like this one really interesting, with this girl so close yet so far. But Detroit doesn't have any of that duality. The whole place just sucks. I lived in Ann Arbor for 5 years and would go to Detroit for events (sports mostly) and although the stadiums may be nice and there are some really nice old buildings still left, I would guess about 75% of them (even around the sports stadiums which are all pretty close to each other except for where the Pistons play) are abandoned and falling apart. That city has so little hope to really turn it around, there just isnt the money/work there to do so. Now, the suburbs around it have a chance to make money still (Grosse Pointe, etc) but that city is to beaten down to save. The only movement that may have a chance is if artists decide to move there real cheap and start attracting different small businesses.
  8. Quentin obviously doesn't want to win.
  9. I am very scared of this AB.
  10. He'll get called up for the upcoming Yankee's series.
  11. Went to the Cubs game on the company dime with all the interns, what a s***ty game to watch. That was truly pathetic by both sides.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) This is a business decision based on something completely different than learning a trade on outdated software (like a student). I have no qualms about businesses not upgrading what doesn't need to be upgraded, however, there is no need to learn on only XP, when various newer versions have since come out. I'm not saying a well rounded education isn't necessary, students absolutely SHOULD know something about XP and other such things that are still in real world use, but I wouldn't make it the focus of their educations. They should focus on the newer generation of technologies. For many IT and CS classes I firmly believe they should be teaching SAP, etc. They don't have to go into great detail, but getting familiar with programs like that will be greatly beneficial and really will give any university department a huge leap in terms of rankings.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) The scary thing is...a lot of the business world still runs the equivalent of XP, because no business in their right mind was going to upgrade to Vista, and Windows 7 came out at a timme when business investment jumped off a cliff. Pretty much. Many organizations are JUST starting the switch.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:03 AM) In either case, it's not the macs problem...it's either the people administrating them that are incompetent, or they never upgraded anything since before 07...and in that case I'd recommend transferring to a better school. Most public, hell most universities aren't up to date on the mos recent OS or Mac/PC computers. They just switched over to Windows 7 on the "new" computers at U of I, and all the old ones still run XP. The biggest thing I don't get there is that they have some actually very nice and new iMacs but they put Windows 7 on them, wtf!? The whole point of having the mix of Mac and PC is so that you can utilize the advantages of each OS, otherwise that $5k you spent in each computer room to have a few Macs is pointless.

    Drools, especially to Allison Brie.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Yes, that is rude. If you can see that the parents are bothered by it and trying to do something, very rude. If you can see that they are sitting there ignoring it and not caring, then perhaps it would be more appropriate. If you've already told them to please quiet the kids down and they just brushed that aside, then it is most likely an appropriate response.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Isn't it rare tho in baseball for trade to be made that early? It is rare, but that doesn't make it a bad choice to do so in certain circumstances.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Kudos to you. I remember Ace and Dick Allen being staunch advocates in selling high on Rios. Then Mackowiak, Erstad, Terrerro and Wise images popped into my head and I said f*** that. But in hindsight, yeah, we should've pounced. There were a few of us last offseason trying to say sell high on Rios but too many posters here were shooting us down. I just wanted under that contract and was willing to put up with a below-average replacement player if it meant having those resources available to help elsewhere.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) You may not remember, but the person on this site who was the strongest advocate of trading Rios at the end of May last year was me. I shut up mid-June because I realized we weren't going to be selling anyone, but it's not the first time I've written this. You could see it even before the all-star break that Rios wasn't going to sustain those numbers. He only had 1 month with an OPS above .800 (and it was a huge month of 1.106).
  20. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) I refused to take my kids out to eat with us until they were at least 5 or 6, and even then I didn't like it. And mine were generally good kids. Agreed, if you're kids can't be disciplined in a quite setting then don't bring them there. I can't believe some parents get offended when they are asked to quite their kids down. If you can't be a good citizen/neighbor then don't expect to be invited back in the future.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) As of right now, the AL manager of the year is Joe Maddon. And it's not even up for discussion. They lost Crawford, Pena, their entire bullpen, Longoria missed like 35 games...and they're right in the thick of things in that monster of a division. Well if the Twins come back and win the Central I really think Gardy wins it. That would be an incredible feat. Maddon and Acta have very legitimate cases though.
  22. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) or an undisciplined AAA guy with a lot of power If we trade Vicedo (who btw, is not that undisciplined) for Beltran than Im done with the Sox, as much as it would pain me to be that way (atleast until KW is gone).
