Charlie Leesman - 2012 call-up or 2011 trade bait?
QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) JPN- Apart from the decent FB what 2ndary ptiches does he have? I mean I heard the same kind of write-up about Poreda having a great FB and no 2ndary stuff and he has really been a bust. Keep in mind that Poreda's delivery and arm movement prevented him from ever developing a true plus secondary pitch. You could tell that he changed his style of pitching to throw his offspeed, which is a dead giveaway to hitters on what's coming.

Eduardo Escobar featured on MILB.com
QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) Anyone think Escobar can develop into our version of Starlin Castro? This is what cracks me up as a Sox fan, we have a decent prospect come up and is still years away and they hit a few HR's in the AFL (which is a HITTER'S LEAGUE PEOPLE) and suddenly this prospect is comparable to top 25 prospects.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) You haven't been watching the same thing I have, because Asik has a long way to go. You can see flashes of why the Bulls like him, but to me he looks like a high school or one year college draftee. I'm not at all impressed with his fundamentals. That will change with time, but he has a ways to go for sure. Taj is ready today. I took his comment as Taj being the most improved and should be starting....

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Nice to see Escobar lighting up the AFL, very Morel-esque. Anyone else see him putting up Orlando Cabrera type numbers potentially? Not really, Escobar strikes out wayyyyy more.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Who has he disrespected in the media? I think he clarified his gays comment that he has a lot of gay friends. A lot of celebrities have put their foot in their mouths about the gay issue. Who else has he offended? Sox fans I guess when he said dont come to the games. I still prefer passion and out of the ordinary to dull bulls*** uttered by the likes of, oh, 95 percent of all managers/coaches. But yeah, I guess the fans who pay the bucks have the right to be pissed when he told them to not come to the games. I don't want to Filibuster this, but I'll leave it at just because a person says they have gay friends doesnt give them any excuse to bash gays in public. The fans thing should be inexcusable, I understand he may have some emotion or shouldnt always have to listen to every fan's opinion, but c'mon, without them there is no Sox, there is no salary for Ozzie.

What are your plans for Tank?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) I just read a feature in ESPN the Mag saying Brett Gardner was ordered to never swing til he had a strike on him in the minors. Said it helped his development greatly. If Tank doesn't fix his plate discipline, he's never going to have a good OB percentage or batting average. Do we all agree on that? From my eye and the PA's I saw of his, he actually had a decent eye, he just wouldn't walk (as in, he would go deep in the count, but would find a pitch to hit). His average will be good, probably in the .280-.310 range (for his career) but his OBP will be really low. For now, under his cheap contract he can be pretty valuable to the Sox.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) I think of it as Oz being Oz, outgoing personality. I personally detest dull managers/coaches who recite boring quote after boring quote. Sports aren't life and death. They should be fun. But then, I live in Kansas and don't get to go to Sox games and spend 95 bucks on a single game ticket. And 30 bucks for parking or whatever it is and 8 bucks for a f***ing hot dog. I guess those of you who shell out the bucks and support the team by going to home games deserve to feel any way you want about Ozzerroo. One has to take out a loan to buy season tix these days. Or those who have been disrespected by what Ozzie has said to the media deserve to feel that way.

Halloween Costumes?
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) I had a crappy Solid Snake costume and was the Grim Reaper at a haunted house. We did not get one single trick or treater. The only people walking on our street were 3 adults with a baby in no costumes. It was depressing. Just eight years ago I remember trick or treating and people being in elaborate costumes. Heck, even the schools celebrated, now...nothing. Go to Champaign and you'll see a very different Halloween than that, but then again I wouldnt bring my kids (if I had some) within 20 miles of Champaign on Halloween weekend. It's a 4 night celebration.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Not anymore. Leads the AFL with 4HRS. Baseball Prospectus "The more scouts see him, the more there is to like with plus defense and enough hitting ability to play every day." Lol, "enough hitting ability" still means the jury is out whether or not he'll make it as a fulltime player because of his bat. 4 home runs in the AFL does not change my stance at all that he needs to hit better at higher levels to prove he's going to be anything more than a UT.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) It's too good to be true. So he can't possibly get mad at KW. There is just no way the Marlins would do that. Especially for just a one year contract that Ozzie has.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) God, can you imagine if this was? I really wonder what the hell was going on in the front office that made this not go through. My guess is that the Sox indeed did talk terms, but the Sox asked for Stanton, not the Marlins offering him.

This is ridiculous...
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 01:40 AM) Sun Times Article And I thought Lou Pinella for Randy Winn was bad... This has to be some sort of joke right? 99% probability of not being true. But yes please.

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) No one thought he would get $5.5 million last year either. It's pretty obvious, if he comes cheap (as in a Jones like deal) than he is worth looking at, anything greater than that and you just walk away content.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) I want to see what the consensus is with this. Last night I met a chick. She showed interest (caught her looking at me a few times before we talked, smiling at me frequently, when we actually met she asked me a bunch of questions, etc). We talked for a little while. Then she kinda just leaves and we only talk a little bit after that. I took that as her interest in me went down and that was that. I didn't ask her for her number. I thought I did the right thing by not pursuing her further and didn’t really second guess myself after because of the way she left, but a friend told me I should've asked for her number because she was interested and that guys have to make the move. I didn't because lately I've been thinking if a girl wants to see me again she will continue talking to me and give me some sort of an opening to ask her for her number. Her leaving sort of abruptly made me think she didn’t want to see me again so I didn't ask. So, was I right for not pursuing her or do you think my friend was right and I should’ve? I’ll keep the responses in mind for future reference… I personally hate that guys have to make the first move, so I really like it when girls do. So Ill stand by your decision.

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (Go_Go_Sox79 @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Every single year there is a post about Nick Johnson. He is always on the DL! Why would we want to sign him? A league min. or minor league deal would be very low risk, high reward. He would be better than Kotsay when healthy, and cheaper. Maybe that limited role keeps him healthier, maybe not.

Halloween Costumes?
Just about 10 years ago when I was in elementary school we would have a school parade around the school grounds with everyone dressed in their costumes and the parents would line up aroudn the school grounds taking pictures of the kids as they walked by and would cheer when their kid's class walked by.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Bumping a potential good thread. It's tough being unemployed and trying to find a professional job. Anybody have a good place to look that isn't the careerbuilder/indeed/whatever else? I'm a finance major if that helps. Are you in school? What level position are you looking for? If you are in school or recently out of school I would see if your school has a career database website. For example, Illinois has I-Link, which is a job posting and search site for all Illinois students now. They have job postings for graduates too.

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox
QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) I thought that I read somewhere, this board I thought, that a team can only lose money on an average of 2 out of 10 years or something like that. Maybe I'm just imaging it. They do say that the first thing that you lose as you get older is your memory and the second is ..........I can't remember the other 2. Oh well. The second is....caring?

Thornton, Castro back; Torres gone
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Just because Flowers' had a bad season doesn't mean he's a non-prospect. This is the same exact kind of stuff people were saying about Viciedo last year, and then he had a good all around season. The example I used was JP Arencibia for Toronto. Had a piss-poor 2009, comes back this year, destroys AAA pitching, and he's looked at in a different light again. Flowers is still a relatively young player. This is a very important season for him, but considering him a non-prospect after his first full go around in AAA is pretty ridiculous. He definitely has more value to the Sox right now than in a trade, he needs to turn it around which is very possible but right now it's not looking good.
