  1. QUOTE (Socal Cid @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) LOS ANGELES (AP)—Rafael Furcal is staying with the Los Angeles Dodgers, reaching a preliminary agreement Wednesday on a $33 million, three-year contract. Now Kenny can draft his third cousin, or Ozzie's nephew, with the 17th pick we get from the Dodgers. Ummm, I think you are confusing Furcal with Cabrera. We dont get the Dodger's pick for no reason.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) That is pure genius. And also a fireable offense. How about a sandwich loaded with hotsauce? That should warn people about eating another person's food.
  3. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Soo tempted to pick up the Arrested Development series for $29 on amazon, but my brokeness will not allow me... I am very tempted to, but you can just watch it on hulu, and acquire it from other places.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) Gears of War, Prince of Persia, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, HALO, and even The Sims...have been talked about. I could understand some of the action games like Gears of War, but the Sims? How do you make a movie out of that? Does the main character find a code to get unlimited money and build the ultimate house?
  5. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) There hasn't been so much as a peep hinting that the White Sox have any interest in Furcal. Oh well. I think we're going to get Taveras, and then the speedy, bunty, grindy rhetoric can officially begin. Ok, I need to know. Where is your avatar from? It just looks freakin hilarious.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) Mystery team is Braves Good lookin, jsut saw the update. It was more of a wish than anything.
  7. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 12:11 AM) You clearly don't know how KW operates if you expect to hear rumblings before a move. Apparently there is still a mystery team for Furcal, over at mlbtraderumors.com. I have no idea if its us, doesnt make sense in a lot of ways, but does at the same time. He would fill the SS/2nb/CF base dilemma and leadoff spot yet KW says Alexei is the SS, and that the payroll is already over budget. Signing Furcal does open a lot of options though, do you keep Alexei at 2nd, or do you move him to CF and put Getz at 2nd, or put Anderson in CF? Lots of options, but I dont see a four year deal for him from us.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Someone finally did what 70% of Americans have wanted t do for a long tine now. I think there are better, more effective, and less violent/silly methods out there to voice your opinion. But then again, it is getting attention... I mean effective in that not many Americans will appreciate their president being attacked by shoes, or will just laugh at it.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 01:38 AM) The Royals will surprise some people. Gil Meche, Greinke, Bannister, Davies and Hochevar/Torres is going to be a very formidable rotation, and they have Soria at the back end. Didn't they just bring back Horacio Ramirez for depth (along with Duckworth) or am I imagining things? They could also be a player for Furcal if they can dump Guillen on another team, somehow. If that scares you then you have issues. But yes, the rotation could be good. The lineup will have to come through. Gordon, Butler, those guys need to step up. Theyre OBP will be awful though, with Guillen and Jacobs there. I read somewhere that Jacobs wanted to get up to .320 OBP, sad.
  10. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) in a bunt situation you may only need one run. your data doesn't tell you which strategy has the highest probability of scoring exactly one run. So in the first inning you already know that you need only one run?
  11. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Currently, this is how I see the lineup. Lillibridge/Owens CF Rameriz SS Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1B AJ C Fields 3rd Getz 2nd I'm just guessing, but I can see Lillibridge winning some time in CF and taking on lefties. I see Ramirez as a 6/7 guy next year still, his OBP is awful and is too much of a free swinger for the second spot. Look for Getz to win that spot.
  12. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) Hey, I didn't see his name mentioned anywhere, but according to the Detroit Tigers' website, Aquilino Lopez was non-tendered. I thought he was a dependable pitcher for Detroit, does anyone think he can improve on what he did last year? Or is he a flash in the pan? However, we probably don't need another righty in the bullpen, unless we try to find someone to take Wassermann's spot or something. Just thought I'd pass along the info... Wow, last year they were thinking of making him their closer for this year. Wonder what happened. I remember he had pretty good stuff. Also, Wassermann didn't and doesn't have a spot on this team, unless someone gets injured. He really fell out of favor with the ChiSox this past year, I wouldnt be surprised to see him let go/wasting away in AAA/traded in a minor deal.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) False, I already know what it is. A ponzi scheme is basically an investment scheme where the initial investor's are paid with later investor's money to make the scheme look legitimate. The person below me has been to New Orleans and Las Vegas in the same year. False, but who wants to pay for me to make it happen? The person below me is procrastinating.
  14. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/vid...y-pants/866262/ Love the video, Lonely Island guys are hilarious. I love how a kay jewelers romantic commercial airs before this.
  15. QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Incorrect. When you have a runner on first and no outs, you are expected (based on empirical data from 1999 to 2002) to score .953 runs. That number drops to .725 with a runner on second and one out. Simply said, you are more likely to score with a runner on first and no outs than you are with a runner on second and one out. Good data. Personally, through my own baseball experience, bunting is useful in very limited situations, unless you have an absolute burner who has as much of a chance to get a hit as he is to bunt safely. Even then, you have to play to the defense, they can line up specifically to stop a bunt, unless it is so perfectly laid down which rarely happens, even with alot of good bunters. The second hitter should be one who can move the leadoff man over, but it is much more effective if this can happen with a double, single, homerun, etc. I believe a Roberts type #2 hitter would be much more effective than any bunting #2 hitter. And you have to look at how the #2 hitter will be without the guy on before him, does he have enough other skills to make him effective? If the leadoff man gets out, the #2 guy has a lot of pressure to get on. For if he gets out, then its 2 outs for your big hitters and they arent as effective with no one on (duh). Those guys are supposedly RBI machines, so give them the tools to work with. Give them high OBP hitters. Sacrificing an out only to have a 3/4/5 hitter smash a homer is pretty bad, you couldve had another guy on base, and having the runner at second makes no difference. This offense needs two OBP guys in front of the 3/4/5.
  16. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) With the NFL's silly blackout rule, wouldn't the Lions fans buy tickets just to they can get the game on TV? They've had a bunch of Thanksgiving games blacked out as well. Who is going to fork out that much money just so others can watch? Much less watch a crappy team that hasnt exactly supported the fanbase with a good/decent/somewhat respectable team?
  17. Dont know if posted yet, but Tenn lost to Temple, wow. Thats a 3 loss Temple team too.
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) Taveras is gonna be here though, no doubt. Can anyone who really really knows a lot about Getz speak to what specific 2-slot skills he does/doesnt posess? From what Ive read, hes good at alot, but not great at anything. Average should be good, .280-.310 ish. Pretty good eye, looking at an OBP about 60-80 pts higher than average. Seems more of a doubles hitter, potentially 10-15 homers. Good speed, 10-15 steals, but more of a 1st to third type speed. Good fielding, one of his major pluses. Nothing really that great but his defense, but good at basically everything. Think like Twins type of player. Hopefully he can contribute right away. His stats at AAA last year show good 1 or 2 hitter
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) to each his own...but that avatar cracks me up. Its great, but where is it from?
  20. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) The sides at Popeye's are awesome. I love their boneless chicken meal, but I feel so sick afterwards. Its just to much.
  21. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) You guys are funny. Would it make a difference if the girls were hot? Are hot girls cleaner than less attractive girls?? Sexy girls being naughty and dirty? Nothing better
  22. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) With the Yanks losing Abreu, they need a RFer. So wouldn't a Dye for Ian Kennedy or Phil Hughes trade make sense for both teams? The Yanks would have no problem eating Dye's contract, and we would get the young starter we want in Kennedy or Hughes. It makes no sense for the Yanks to keep both of Kennedy and Hughes around (or ruining their careers by making them relievers). With the Yanks already signing CC and agreeing to terms with Burnett, it seems like they'll have a clot of starters. I also think they will sign one of Lowe or Sheets as well. Thoughts? They did just ask for money from the Brewers in the proposed deal for Cameron, just sayin. They do have Gardner, Swisher, Matsui, Damon, Cabrera still, so they arent exactly desperate for one. Maybe they feel Dye would be a firstbasemen/RF for them? It is possible, I just dont see it happening.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Nah, rotation's too shaky. They'll pick the Twins. Thats the safe pick.
  24. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Speaking of the Tigers, they are the team to really watch in our division. Their 2010 rotation should be Verlander-Galarraga-Bonderman-Jackson-Porcello which has a chance to be pretty darn sick. The Everett signing I like, especially over giving up talent for Jack Wilson, because they need the extra defense. Laird was also a nice acquisition for them. The main saving grace (for us) with the Tigers is the fact they gave bad, long-term contracts to Sheffield, Robertson, and Willis, but Sheff comes off the books after '09 and the other two are gone after 2010. There were rumors that a Sheffield-for-Catalanatto deal could take place, which would be great for them if they could then move Maggs to DH and pick up some defense in the OF. The bullpen is still horrendous though, but I think those of the opinion that the Tigers are old and dying are wrong. They've got the starting pitching to contend and have Granderson, Cabrera, and Maggs locked in for a long time to come. Verlander is good, but hasnt been great yet. Galarraga I think had an outstanding, but unrepeatable year. Look at his minor league stats, theyre just not that good. I think he will be a good 3/4 starter. Bonderman is so inconsistent, maybe he finally puts it together, but I see another 4 era from him. Jackson is about the same to me as Bonderman. Procello will not be starting the year with the Tigers. He'll probably start at AA and move up to AAA, and might come up for September or injuries. Robertson will be the fifth starter, and he'll be around a 4.5-5 era, mroe like 5. They have a bunch of okay guys, with the potential to be great. But theyve been so "okay" for awhile that alot of that potential is going away. Their bullpen still sucks, even if they sign a closer. Rodney, Zumaya, tehy are both overhyped. They have a bunch of over 4 era guys, not much else. That lineup will be good, as well the defense, but they definitely have holes. Everett at the plate, and Miggy/Guillen in the field just to name a few. The Tigers will be good, but they arent scary to me. I also dont feel like they are together as a team.
  25. QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 03:01 AM) I don't think it's a huge deal. I mean think about it, I bet there is worse s*** put into those sinks then humans. Plus, I would bet that the sinks get rinsed out on a daily basis. atleast they used soap
