QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) Maybe they were all let go because they were focusing on what they could/could not wear to work and not on the actual work itself? If you're truly there to gain experience, why are you spending ANY energy complaining about the dress code, going so far as to draft a petition and get it signed? Why would a company fire interns instead of coaching them? Didn't this company go into an intern program realizing that they would need to provide coaching to college students in most likely their first corporate job instead of firing them when they did something they didn't like? If interns weren't getting their work done, or we're focusing on the wrong work, shouldn't management be providing that feedback? Shouldn't they have been course corrected before being fired? Or do we just expect 20 year olds to be absolutely perfect corporate employees the moment they step out of the classroom and into some random office?
-
I'm sure that some companies can still succeed with a suit mandate, but man not many millenials will be attracted to them. While I don't agree with much of the interns' approach, such as saying "well he got to wear gym shoes so why can't I?", I think the company went WAY to far by firing all of them. They just burned a lot of bridges, but my guess is if they are still mandating suits then they believe in an elitist culture and don't care about it.

How easily y'all focus on adults sitting and move on from the actual political issues at hand, it's embarrassing how people squabble at times. With how some of you act on here I'm not surprised at all that politicians resort to sit ins to make points.

Calling the sit-in childish is just missing the bigger picture.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) The problem with Jack's plan was that EndFrame had stolen Richard's algorithm and they were going to market first. It was only after EndFrame figured out that their product wasn't going to be as good (no neural-net) that made Pied Piper the only middle out compression company left. By that time, the box was dead anyhow. But looking at how PP was perceived in the show as way too technologically advanced for the casual user, I can see how Jack did know what he was doing. He probably perceived the platform as too hard to get for the conventional consumer. But then again, he basically sold out PP's technology to that enterprise company for 5 years. I think had that not happened, the team would have done the box and then did the platform. That's a good call, I had forgotten about selling the tech part, which was just a really stupid decision on Jack's part.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Only 13-15 episodes left. http://io9.gizmodo.com/game-of-thrones-sho...15-e-1782731578 Boo. Yea it's too bad that they aren't coming up with enough to fill in the rest of the episodes. More stories like the Hound's return can really enhance the storyline, and not just be filler. They could go into depth in some really interesting stories if they really wanted to, but I guess they want to focus on wrapping it up. -
But I do agree that the season seemed a bit flat, I think season 1's ending and all of S2 were just funnier and S3 was a bit of a let down.
-
And Richard's vision failed drastically, maybe Jack knew a bit more about what he was doing even if he was a dick about it. If they had focused on the box they'd be making money most likely already, with the ability to tweak the platform without a rush to market. They may not have the video chat app from Danesh but they'd have a solid stream of cash to support building out a user friendly compression platform.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) We went from about 1/4 acre in Woodridge and cutting it with a push mower to about 1 acre in Homer and cutting it with an (old) lawn tractor. It takes me about half the time now, around an hour. When my family lived in Ann Arbor, we had 3.5 acres of grass including a very steep hill on which the house sat. Took about 3-4 hours with our John Deere, man that was a chore.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Yeah, I am aware...I'm just always shaking s*** up looking for the next move. Waiting on this damn appraiser so we have some kind of idea what we are looking at with our property, particularly after doing the reno work last year. Ha I feel you, hopefully you find out soon so you can start figuring out the next steps a bit more clearly.

Shack you've been looking at possibly moving right? May want to hold off on buying equipment unless you plan on doing the maintenance yourself at the new place, just a thought that it may not be worth the hassle quite yet.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) I've never had a problem understanding why a show with over 150 named characters, spanning several continents isn't exactly linear. Maybe they should have title screens that say "6 months later. Bay of Dragons." -

Yea absolutely thought Varys at the end was a joke, no way he could travel that quickly. Or maybe that journey is that short and the fleet only has what, 2 days to go to make it to Westeros? Anywho, great finale overall. Cersei is definitely on an island right now, who besides the Lannisters will support her? And even then, Jamie had what, 8k troops? I'm sure that wasn't every last Lannister soldier but they do not have anything close to an army that can withstand the assault from Dany. In fact, it looks like it will be easy pickings across the 7 kingdoms now that Dorne, Tyrell and Martell/Dorne are behind her. Only the north/vale remains as an "outside" force and they have been hit hard and their focus is on the WW. That kind of leaves Dany making a mockery of the invasion, she'll get the throne pretty easily, but would she give it up to the rightful heir in Jon? Or do they marry or decide to rule like Aegon did with his sister queens (obviously she isn't Jon's sister but use a similar system?). Also, I'm thinking Melisandre will meet Dany in the south and tell her about the WW war. -
Zack Collins agrees to deal with White Sox
bigruss replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Mike, you should absolutely care what they spend their money on. Paying a player a ton of money that then busts can be crippling for an organization like the Sox. Want a consistently good product on the field? Don't just clamor for the stupidest deal of the offseason. Remember, you're money and tv watching allows the Sox to spend this money, I sure as hell don't want to spend it on a good but not great 34 yr old for a team that is still a few pieces away from being a WS contender. -

I know a friend of mine already mentioned ESA doesn't get impacted by this as it technically isn't part of the EU. Not sure about other scientific agencies. And that isn't to say Britain still doesn't pull funding but it's not an immediate pull out at least.

One way to avoid this is to not make stupid statements like eating a hat if X happens. Let's all move on here.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) the MLB coaching staff is bottom 1/3 in the league that's why. Probably bottom 5. I don't think MLB staffs have much of an impact on veteran MLB players, the most impact they have is on the environment around the guys but for the most part the vets have their own hitting coaches, etc.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Having a HS varsity letter for baseball or playing at the college level doesn't mean anything. As other people have already pointed out there are plenty of successful GM's who played very little baseball growing up. Successful baseball Executives and GM's do have something in common though. They always surround themselves with people who are extremely good if not the best at what they do This is where the Sox FO office has failed big time over the past decade or so in my opinion. We have some of the dumbest guys in the room when it comes to scouting, drafting, and player development. No postseason appearances in the past 8 years is proof of this. Hahn is good at contract negotiation but appears to be way in over his head at everything else. He also isn't surrounding himself with people who excel at the aspects that he is bad at and the results are there for all to see. I think Nick Hostetler is a prime counter argument to you. Hahn is building up his staff, remember how loyal this org is, it'll take time to get his people in.
