I actually think Greg would be fine, while I think he can be extremely naive I don't think Greg is a bad person.

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 11, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) Tangent, but I was just thinking how great it'd be to see what greg would do in a gay bar. I'd sit back with the popcorn.

This was 3rd/4th grade, and we had 2 leagues so the better kids played up and the kids who weren't as good or didn't want to compete too hard played down. While the coach definitely wanted to win he was never unpleasant to the kids, he would just always mess with opposing coaches/umps. Never in a mean way, he never called them names or swore (well loudly haha), he would argue the little things when they didn't really matter. But, at the same time, he connected with kids at that age when few can, and the entire team was focused on winning (again, no small feat for that age). We won the championship both years which I don't think any other team had done in quite some time in repeating. And while we were all competitive those were also some of the most fun years I've ever had, great introduction into pitch baseball.

I've always wanted to coach but the politics in it seem like a drain I don't need, my favorite and best coach growing up was forced to quit by parents. He was fantastic with kids and really knew how to coach them up, which is a lot harder than one would think. But his one flaw was that he was relentless on the umps and other coaches (but never got on the opposing players), you could be up by 10 runs and he'll still argue balls/strikes with the ump. I guess his act got old, which is too bad because every kid wanted to be on his team (and no other team wanted to play against his).

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 11, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) Just applied to two in-house counsel positions. First time i've applied for a job in about 7 years. Gonna be weird if I do get called in for an interview. As someone who hadn't interviewed in about that long it was weird to go through the process again, exhilarating at first and then real quickly I decided I didn't like it anymore Good luck though!

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 11, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Has its flaws but so much better than the Aftermath which was just unreadable. Also the latest Claudia Grey Star Wars novel just came out last week. May pick that up. Don't think it's a sequel to Lost Stars. Yea I was just looking on Amazon for what else is out there, looks like it focuses on Leia and more around the politics which sounds interesting to me. Lost Stars was an easy read, a bit soft at times but I liked the perspective it gave and it was a pretty fun read. For $10 for a hardcover I can't complain.

Finally got around to reading Lost Stars and finished it last night, pretty fun read and would definitely recommend it.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) Earlier today the kids I coach were doing warmup throws this kid says "I'm definitely not pairing with Richard" (my son) standing right in front of me. Then he turns around and says "coach, did you bring your glove so I can work on pitching?" I said "no my shoulder is sore. Not today." Then while he was still looking I threw a ball from the dugout to a kid in deep center field about 150 feet away (to those kids it may as well be a thousand feet). I mean... I was going to but you just insulted my son right in front of me, so f*** off little dude. That was super petty of me to do but I don't even feel bad. Lmao. I wasn't wrong though. Be a better teammate. That seemed like a good response. Why didn't he want to play catch with your son? Just being a turd?

QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Eh, I liked it. The joke from Richard was so out of nowhere I was barely paying attention I was laughing so hard. Silicon valley is so much better than it deserves to be for a 30 minute sitcom. I thought last season was better than this season thus far but agreed, the show is really funny.

I meant that it's ridiculous that we live in a world that people feel compelled to say something like that to others, but we got to this point because so many people couldn't recognize their own privileges and that others may deal with s*** on a daily basis that that person couldn't comprehend but doesn't bother to. Essentially, it boils down to a bunch of people, mostly straight white males, who think they are attacked constantly by gays, minorities, etc because those people are asking for equal rights or just an even playing field. That's what upsets me so f***ing much, that people can't fathom that there's s*** in the world that they've never gone through and therefore discredit it all and meanwhile say everything is f***ing honkey dorey when it f***ing isn't. Do I condone people coming up to strangers who are just walking by and yelling in their face? No, definitely not. Those people are angry and lashing out in the absolute wrong way. But I understand where that anger has come from.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) You said: "They don't mean you didn't earn what you have, just that you may have had less obstacles to get to it and you shouldn't ignore that. Just realize that there are a lot of things out there that you didn't have to deal with, and just be aware of that." Are you fricking serious? So that gives you the right to come up to me in a public place and yell "check your privileges" And I thought they were also saying "check your white privileges." How the hell does this group of people know that I don't accept the fact I've had less obstacles to overcome??? I might be totally that way. You don't know that when you approach me? But I sure as hell disagree with you screaming that in my face! How the hell do the Black Lives Matter group know that the people they are yelling at aren't fully cognizant of the fact they have had less obstacles. Yes it is VERY RUDE of that group to act in a mean manner to white people just trying to sit in a library. You said you've "got to this point for a reason?" What reason ... that person in the library for all you know is Mother Theresa II and does more things for black people than anybody in the last 100 years. You said: "It's complete s*** that we've gotten to the point that people feel compelled to say "check your privileges", but we've gotten to this point for a reason, because so many people have never given that any thought and can't understand that someone may have had different experiences than them." OMG. You did not get to this point for a reason, because AGAIN, the person you are telling to check their privileges may have done that many times. You don't know their position. Do you want the people in the library to fill out a form expressing their positions before you yell at them?? I was reading that some people who were marching on campus with the angry group of Black Lives Matter people came back to study later and got yelled at anyway!! After marching on campus. I am talking about rude behavior. You have NO RIGHT to invade my space and tell me to check my privileges and act rudely to me. Again how do you know I am not a sympathizer. You go up to the wrong person and you get a knuckle sandwich. Now can you respond to my response? Why do you feel you have the right to go up to innocent people whom you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT and ask them to check their privileges. How bout an answer of "I'll check them later; I'm here to study for my Calculus test motherf***er." I never condoned that.
-
Shockingly you either didn't read my response or just ignored it and went on with your rant.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) I like your style L.Ron Paulard! That italicized quote about the media is what I've been trying to convey! We are in the minority, L. Ron, but we can only hope/beg that the FBI has the guts to indict Hillary. I dont' get why a majority of this board has no problem with all the insults tossed Trump's way and yet we imply Hillary broke the law or is a liar liar pants on fire and we get roasted. Cmon FBI! Work harder. That's a good thing.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) Now you are getting all literal with his color bind statement. he probably meant that race doesn't factor into whether he likes or dislikes someone, if you are a good person, you are a good person. Likewise, if you are an asshole, you are an asshole, doesn't matter your skin color. I have been accused of being racist before because I didn't hire a black guy for a press job I had. Even when i pointed out to the guy that he f*cked up the delivery feed on my press during his tryout, costing me almost $100 to fix, he still insisted I didn't hire him because of his color. Stupid. I also don't give a s***. If you can make me money, I will hire you. If you are a nice person, I will be your friend. if you are an asshole, you are an asshole, no race or color descriptor is needed. I've seen people use the race card, it's not right because it undermines when racism is truly present, which I've also witnessed first hand. But posting that article, that perspective for Greg is not to tell him that he's racist, just like most people don't actually mean you're racist when they say "check your privileges". What they are really trying to say is open your eyes and realize there's probably more to the story. They don't mean you didn't earn what you have, just that you may have had less obstacles to get to it and you shouldn't ignore that. Just realize that there are a lot of things out there that you didn't have to deal with, and just be aware of that. It's not saying you should be stripped of what you earned, just be cognizant that your path may have been different and therefore you shouldn't expect everyone to have the same success with the same obstacles you overcame. When I say recognize color I mean appreciate that people have these different backgrounds, different obstacles, different traditions. Recognize that, recognize the positives they bring, the negatives they've endured, and I hope they do the same to you as well. It's complete s*** that we've gotten to the point that people feel compelled to say "check your privileges", but we've gotten to this point for a reason, because so many people have never given that any thought and can't understand that someone may have had different experiences than them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2016 -> 01:54 AM) Why do you assume I'm racist because I disagree with your views on this? When I see a person I do not see skin color. I just don't. Read this Greg, and open your eyes.

Well it's different because Littlefinger had a much bigger potential storyline with that move, and remember, he'd burn the entire world if it meant he could rule it. So it totally fits who he is. This stuff though, it just doesn't make sense from either side. -
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) I live within 1 hour of New Buffalo and Hammond. Aside from the heat, I'd much rather lose $1000 here than $1700 there if you include the flights and hotels. No thanks. Honestly if you're comparing any casinos to Vegas casinos/the strip/fremont st then you REALLY don't know what you're talking about. Obviously casinos are a large part of Vegas but that place is soooo much more.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Yep..that was my point...given how loyal the father was to the Starks, I just don't see how the son could differ so much, especially against a family who had totally betrayed the Starks. I suppose the wildings angle is decent enough cover for the story...but I am convinced there is more there (but I'm a Stark loyalist so I always root for the Starks). It could just be lazy writing to move the story forward quickly, which would be disappointing. -
By the way, anyone who says they don't see color is missing the big picture. You SHOULD see color, see what makes people different, see different cultures, understand that people have different backgrounds. Just don't be an ass bag and judge someone negatively based solely on the color of their skin.

LOL I have AA friends! I don't see color! Classic.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Do we really know that the father Umber (who was extremely loyal to the Starks) is actually dead even? Could be, maybe he isn't though. Wasn't Rickon supposed to go to the Umbers (because they were the most loyal of all to the Starks) and most likely has been with them for quite a long time (since a few years have passed from when we last saw him in "real" time). Couldn't have taken him that long to get to the Umbers and thus now they are just going to trade him (or has he just been in capture for two plus years just because and now they have decided is the time to leverage him) because of Jon Snow and the Wildings. I don't buy it. And that's why we are having this discussion, neither side really makes any sense with the facts known. The only thing I can think of is that Greatjon died and his allegiance to the Starks (remember he was the first to proclaim Robb as king of the north) was the only thing keeping the Umbers loyal. But that seems shaky at best. -

Yea I agree that the Umbers did this on purpose and aren't working with Osha and Rickon, I don't like the fact that Lord Umber is using the wildlings as an excuse to turn on Rickon though, seems weak as hell and totally out of character for a pro-Stark house. -

QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) Yeah. That part I don't know what to say. It's possible they do get tortured as a catalyst to turn john. I've long thought that Jon would leave the Nights Watch since his "watch has ended" and go to Winterfell to take it from the Boltons and help save Sansa. So now he has Sansa and Rickon to worry about. Also, I don't think Jon becomes Lord of Winterfell, I don't think he wants that as I think he's still worried about the walkers and that war, but he knows that having Winterfell supporting him will be key and helping is family is a priority and something he can actually do now that his vows are over. -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:08 PM) Oh. I use HBOGo so no clue if it's same layout or what. It should be, I've used both but don't have cable now so have to use HBO now and it's the same thing but wayyyy buggier.
