    Grilling

Bought a new grill to enjoy on the giant patio at my new condo, finally got to use it today and cooked up some chicken kabobs. Did two different overnight homemade marinades: 1) Water, soy sauce, sesame oil, fresh lime juice 2) Water, soy sauce, sriracha, sesame oil, japanese hot spices, fresh lime juice Both turned out pretty damn well, needs some slight tweaking (needs some garlic and maybe cilantro). Chicken turned out great though, love when I get the chicken done just right and it's just super tender. What I really need to work on is the vegetables, I did a mix of green, red, yellow and orange bell peppers with onions on kabob sticks. Sprayed with olive oil and light garlic salt. While they don't taste bad I was struggling with cooking them all the way through without burning the crap out of the ends. I don't mind the crunch in the peppers but wanted the onions done more.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) And I dont keep my car very long, as soon as the warranty period is up I am gone and that goes for any car I've owned from Lexus, Infiniti, Jeep etc. Seems to have worked out so far. Works out except for that whole payment thing My 2012 Focus just had a weird issue, engine light came on and it had visible issues shifting gears. I get it in to a dealership and they had to reboot the power and trans computers or something like that, it seemed really odd but it's working now
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 4, 2015 -> 12:47 AM) i thought it was rumored to be something like 5.5. something but then again, i was going with what the sports sites where talking about. Hawks were rumored to top out at 5, Saad was rumored to want 6.5. I'm sure he would've signed for 6 with the Hawks but sounds like 5 was a hard cap for them.
  4. Im in a 16in coed league in Lincoln Park this summer, played against a bunch of douches this past Thursday. We were tied going into the 5th (we only had 4 guys so it was a pleasant suprise for our winless team) but then our defense pretty much just fell apart (dropped balls, girls just not paying attention at all, etc) and gave up 9 runs. During the next inning, this short guy gets a single but then takes off for 2nd because he sees a girl had picked the ball up. He makes it easily of course and I shouted at him from SS to take it easy, you're up by 9 runs no need to take the extra base. The next inning he's up again and points to me before he goes to the plate (he proceeds to hit a grounder to me and I threw him out by 2 feet or so only to have our first basemen drop the throw). Then in the last inning we have our bottom of the order up and they bring in a new pitcher who is now throwing "curve balls", and at this point we are down like 18 runs (we really fell apart the last few innings). I'm competitive but damn douche moves by that team.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Looking through his tweets/instagram, how/when did Jimmy become such good buddies with Mark Wahlberg? best wahlberg/butler video
  6. LDF, it's time to take a deep breath and maybe take a few steps away from this thread for a while. The world didn't end, a good player was traded and that happens all the time. Everything will be alright.
  7. I don't think anyone is happier about this news than John Groce.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) Illinois smartly hires Dee Brown for a summer position. In the AD's office for now, presumably grooming him for a bigger role next year when he's done playing. I think that'd be great for him to be the face of the school again for sports. Good start, hopefully he replaces one of the current assistants soon. I have not been impressed with any of them thus far, Walker's St. Louis connects have done nothing, Ford's Canada connects have fallen flat. Parham seems like the only decent recruiter, even there he hasn't been stellar.
  9. Not my cup of tea, pretty meh hate those kind of jerseys. And also the lettering looks kinda weird with the different font/sizes. Please don't take offense to this, just my opinion and there may be someone out there that likes it.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) How far? Up north i used to play Highland Park CC quite a bit and then by your office White Deer run and that Marriott course. Northwest we've been hitting Poplar Creek and Hilldale GC. Eaglewood is a nice easy course in Itasca. Short irons all day but you need to be fairly accurate. Well somewhat close to 94 always helps since that's my commute route, Willow Run is ok but man is it windy there. And the Marriott is Crane's Landing which has been my go to lately.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) "Let's come up with a bunch of characters all with unique flaws and throw them together to slove a case." That can be said for the first season, and is that not the basic concept of the show? Lets wait to watch the entire season before we judge it. They had 2 main characters in the first season, it's easy to build around that and build backstories for them. They have what, 5 main characters in this one? The 3 detectives and cop plus Vaughn's bad guy. That's a whole lot of cramming together backstory in one episode and to me fealt very forced. Look, I'm not saying I'm not going to watch the show or that it's doomed, I think it can still be quality entertainment. It just didn't have the best start to it imo. Also, of course I'm going to start judging it now, it's what we do on message boards
  12. Any suggestions for N/NW burbs? I've been going to Cranes Landing a bit, decent place and you can get 18 with a cart of about 3$0-35 after work. My dad and I still go to Columbus Park occasionally since we both grew up playing it, I've never had that kind of issue with a packed course like you guys have had. I'll check out Indian Boundary later in the season, used to live real close to it and meant to check it out. Evanston has like a co-op course that's a good deal as well.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 11:23 PM) I don't get why people are so disappointed with the first episode. I liked it a lot because it took it's time introduring us to each of the 4 leads. That connection that we forged with them in episode 1 will pay off as the season goes on, I can say that now that the characters are introduced that the story is start picking up gradually. Remember the first season, things didn't take off till the fourth episode. I disagree with the 'compensating for McCounaghey' comment, you have to erase the first season from your head as this is an anthology series. And these 4 have nothing in common with Rust besides their love of whiskeys and profession (I've had Johnnie Walker Blue before, it's fantastic. Also love Jameson). I hated the Brink. Everyone here should check out, Deadwood if you haven't. And the Red Road, which is f***ing phenomenal. I went in knowing it was a brand new show and that I shouldn't expect the same characters/plot, that was just the impression I got when watching. Let's come up with a bunch of characters all with unique flaws and throw them together to solve a case, it just doesn't seem as creative and interesting as the last season. I'm not comparing characters per se, more just comparing how they were introduced and built up (which I much preferred in season 1).
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Did a week-long road trip to the Dakotas with the wife and 2 young kids. Some highlights to use on your future journeys there... Black Hills area... --Keystone, the city nearest Rushmore, is trash. Like Wisconsin Dells or worse. Stay in Hill City or elsewhere if you can. --Rushmore itself is indeed worth seeing, very neat, but also you don't need more than like an hour there. --Badlands, a ways outside of Rushmore, is very cool. --Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns was neat, but do NOT do it if you are at all afraid of heights. --1880 train was fun --Didn't get to see Crazy Horse, wish we had The rest to and from... --Dickinson, ND is actually a cool little town. Dinosaur museum and pioneer village that the kids liked, some fun cafes. Not a destination, but a very good choice for a stopover. --Bismarck, ND was... not worth the time (Blake is going to kill me). The state capital looks like a derelict 60s federal agency building. --Yankton, SD is another good choice for stopover and even spending a day there - lots of hiking trails and bridges, tons of interesting history, I was surprised. None of it was exactly exciting, but it was a good vacation trip especially with kids. You could easily spend a week in the Black Hills area alone and not get bored. We didn't do half the stuff on our list. One of my best friends lives in Black Hills (went to Black Hills State) and works out there as a Forest Technician now, I should really go out to see him sometime and explore that area.

True Detective was kinda boring and just an onslaught of characters, so far it seems like they felt like they couldn't create a replacement for McConaughey so they decided to just create a bunch of characters with flaws to make up for it. I'm still intrigued but disappointed with the start, hopefully the plot starts to move forward and is more intriguing. Ballers was ok, kinda expected more humor/tits and ass. I'll keep it going as a quasi replacement for Silicon Valley for my mindless entertainment before going to sleep Sunday nights. The Brink was actually better than what I expected, a lot funnier than I thought it would be.
  16. I've gone to Vegas the past two years for sweet 16 weekend, you'll have a blast. Best advice: stay on the strip and as mentioned not too far north or south. I've stayed at the Elara Hilton (pretty much connected to Planet Hollywood) and MGM Signature. While you can get dirt cheap suites at the Sig, it was too far off the strip imo (and if you look at the map you would never think that, you really need to be on the strip as it's deceiving how far crap is there). Elara was a great place and extremely affordable, with easy access to Cosmo, PH, Bellagio, Aria, etc, I highly recommend it for a nicer place that doesn't set you back. Only down side was the pool, not a ton of space compared to some of the other places. The Sig had a pool for each tower so we basically drank in the pool for 6 hours a day, people were there but never crowded and we weren't bothering anyone with our shenanigans. We have only gone for suites so far since we've had large groups and would just pile people in and wanted good places to drink/watch games before going out. I'm not a club guy at all so can't speak to that, but PH has dancers until like 1am and is a good time. We usually spent our nights there or going over to Cosmo which is definitely nicer and has better drink service. Hardrock is supposed to have a really nice sportsbook but that place is nowhere near the strip. Caesars was probably the next best sportsbook but we ended up at PH for convenience but they don't have a great one. And make sure to go to one of the In-n-outs while you're out there.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Nathaniel Grow @NathanielGrow Any potential fine of St.L. is limited by MLB's Constitution. The Commissioner may only fine a team up to $2 million: I would expect heavy draft repercussions then.
  18. I would still be shocked if Jon isn't resurrected by Melisandre, her going back to the wall and the whole scene with Thoros a few seasons back just leads me to believe she will give him the kiss of life. I kinda get the warg to ghost theory but he's been Almost completely absent this season so that setup wasn't there.
  19. Did anyone else notice the raven hanging around Dany and Drogon? Bran watching the world.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) Kit says the show runners told him Jon Snow isn't coming back to the show. That is in direct conflict with what I think happens in the book. That seems very unlikely for him not to come back, there seems way too much setup for Melissandre to give him the Kiss of Life and bring him back.
  21. I got suckered in and bought Elder Scrolls online, have a group of friends that are going to play so hopefully it's good.
