  1. Trade Q, Frazier, Fulmer. + a prospect, or 2 to Colorado for Arenado and CarGo. Trade some fringe prospects to Cincy for Homer Bailey(taking his contract) and Billy Hamilton. LF-Cabrera CF-Hamilton RF-Eaton 3B-Arenado SS-Anderson 2B-Lawrie 1B-Abreu C-Avila?? DH- CarGo SP-Sale, Rodon, Gonzales, Shields, Bailey
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) Well here's some more. Count the Red Sox out. If that's still there stance they arent going to get anyone. Here we'll take one of the best pitchers in the majors...but you guys cant have any of our best players in the lineup or minors. What a great deal! "but the Red Sox have let other teams know they will not discuss four players: Yoan Moncada, Andrew Benintendi, Michael Kopech and Rafael Devers." http://www.gammonsdaily.com/peter-gammons-...otes-from-july/ That's fine. I'm sure Hahn would take Boegarts, Betts, and Bradley in their place.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 04:43 AM) Ptact thinks Sale is better because he has more wins though. Hp could a 7-8 guy be anywhere near as good as a 14-3 guy, right? Or maybe he thinks Sale is better than Quintana because Sale IS better than Quintana. Q is a vey good pitcher, but let's face it, Sale is better and that's nothing to hold against Q. There aren't many pitchers better than Sale. I doubt you'd find one GM that would give the same package for Q that they would for Sale. There's a reason for that.
  4. Didn't the Sox have a doughy, one dimensional DH playing 1B that just went to HOF a couple years ago?
  5. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 03:32 AM) To think a major league baseball player is going to suddenly "undo" his swing that he has worked on his whole life because he spend 20 minutes one night trying to hit baseballs as hard as he can is unbelievably overblown and stupid. I can't handle all the "NO! HE WILL MESS UP HIS SWING AND SUDDENLY BE BROKEN" comments I see about this event every year. Probably the most sensible thing I've read here in awhile.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 03:36 AM) You mean losing 16 out of their last 19 to AL Central opponents...3-16 is almost impossible to pull off and do it unintentionally. Say what you want about Ozzie, but at least he emphasized winning division games. I don't know what his division record was, I know it was bad against the Twins, but at least he placed an importance on winning games within the division to have any chance at success.
  7. QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:42 PM) A base stealer should just...steal bases. What does bunting have to do with it? And scoring from 3rd with outs is statisically harder than scoring from 1st or 2nd in EVERY SITUATION. Fact. Maybe I'm missing what you're saying but that doesn't make sense. Are you saying it's harder to score a guy from 3rd with one out than it is from 1st or 2nd with 1 out?
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) @ckamka #WhiteSox now 6-1 in last 7 at Fenway Park I was at that one game they lost last year ........ and it was with Sale on the mound.
  9. Bunts are good in certain situations. With a base stealer on 1st, I'd much rather just have the guy try and steal 2nd. Let's say a guy has 75% success rate stealing, that's higher odds than a bunt. Then, you could always bunt him over to third where anything other than a strikeout or popout likely scores him.
  10. What's the problem with adding Bruce? He's not going to cost much talent-wise and he's a good player that hits left-handed, which is something this team needs. They may not win it this year but I still don't see a problem with him being on the roster. Maybe they do turn it around and win this year. You never know. Bruce may cost something like Matt Davidson and Beck, if that. I do that trade everyday.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) Sox still at .600 which is a 97 win pace. It was obviously going to slow down and there are always bumps in the road. It's a 6 month season playing almost every day. Do that at your job, and notice the ups and downs. The 2005 World Champions once lost 7 consecutive games. The gamethreads really are ridiculous. All the problems with the team. No talent, the manager is horrible.... If the Sox have these problems and are playing .600, what exactly does that say about the other teams and the other managers? I agree and think it's amusing we have so many fixes for, what to this point, is a very good team. Really, their main need is another starter and the rest should be okay, barring injury. It's just fun to speculate. However, adding the likes of Bruce and a guy like Santana, I think, would make them the prohibitive AL favorite.
  12. I wish Jay Bruce would cool off a bit and his price tag may come down. I know Eaton has been stellar in RF but I think the team would be much better with Bruce in RF, Eaton in CF, and Jackson to the 4th OF role to which he is better suited.
  13. I still say the perfect candidate is sitting in Minnesota in Ervin Santana. Offer up a guy like Beck and Leury Garcia, who seems to be a typical Twin-type player but has no real future with the Sox because of Saladino and Sanchez, and that should be plenty. It may not even cost that much. Slide Santana into the #3 or 4 spot and the rotation is again very solid.
  14. I'd see what it takes, probably not much, to get Ervin Santana from Minny. Tyler Danish and another mid-level prospect would probably get it done. His contract isn't prohibitive and fits in the Sox window.
  15. The Reds are basically out of it already and building to the future. I would target Jay Bruce and Homer Bailey from them. For Bailey, the Sox would have to get Cincy to eat a bunch, maybe half, of his contract to do it. Bailey is currently making rehab starts but should be back this not too far from now, maybe about 4-5 more rehab starts. With the Reds rebuilding, shedding salary would be key and I don't think it would even cost that much prospect-wise. Tyler Danish, Chris Beck, and Matt Davidson or a package of similar prospects may get the deal done.
  16. I can't wait for next spring training when I get to get on the field and work out with the Sox. Reason being, I think I am the exception to the rule.
  17. I blame Hahn. He never should have signed the bum in the first place.
  18. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Assuming that both Rollins and Jackson are going to be in the regular lineup, and that Avi doesn't get traded or sent to AAA, I'd like to see this: RF Eaton SS Rollins 1B Abreu DH Melky 3B Frazier 2B Lawrie LF AVI C Avila/Navarro CF Jackson Rollins is a smart hitter, who would be able to handle the 2 hole, leaving Melky to provide the LH bat in the middle of the order, to break up all the right handed hitters. Of course, this would have to be altered until Eaton's shoulder is completely healthy. LaRoche would then have to be a pinch hitter and defensive replacement for Abreu. It would be better if he weren't on the roster, but it is, what it is. I like having the 3 speedsters in succession, 9TH, Leadoff and 2ND. I agree. Even is Saladino is starting, flipping him and Jackson in the order still works. If LaRoche wasn't owed a bunch of money, he wouldn't even be considered to make the team. I think we're at the point of HOPING LaRoche can put up Connor Gillapsie type numbers and that's pretty bad.
  19. Melky to DH with Garcia and Eaton in the corners is the team's best everyday lineup. LaRoche is garbage and should only be used as a PH and to give a guy the day off every so often. The less games he sees action, the better for the Sox.
  20. Avi is going to have a good year. LaRoche is garbage. If they would both have good years, the Sox can contend.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) Seriously? Garcia probably won't out-HR him but I think he has a higher BA and on base %. Garcia is 24 with one full big league season under his belt. I think he takes a significant step forward this year.
  22. I won't be all that surprised when Avi puts up better offensive numbers than Cespedes next year. I'd sign Jackson, move Eaton to left, and Melky to DH. Desmond, I really have no opinion on him and don't care if they sign him , or not. I'd just as soon let Saladino and Sanchez battle it out for SS.
  23. I would have spent the money on Upton but that's about it. I'm about the only one who is willing to give Garcia another year and think he will improve. He's only 24 and he's coming off his first full year. He should be 100% healthy and I'm willing to give him a chance rather than spend $80-100 mill on Cespedes, who has also put up pedestrian numbers earlier in his career. At this point, if I was the Sox, I would sign Austin Jackson to the 4th OF role and also Pedro Alvarez to be the LH DH. LaRoche is a sunk cost and can be a pinch hitter and give Abreu the occasional day off.
  24. If the Sox prospects are so good and too much to give up, why did the Reds choose the Dodger's prospects to complete the deal? Truth is, there was a very good chance that none of the 3 guys the Sox gave up would even have had a minimal impact on the team this year.
