Made a league, if anyone else wants to join one
witesoxfan replied to witesoxfan's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
Nothing's wrong with it really...I am basically just asking dan and then the rest of the league if that would work. It will stay next Saturday, the 19th for now. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan56789 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Oh and in my last game it was great, this kid stumbled in his dribble right by our free throw line and i reached at the ball and somehow stole it from him, turned around and airballed it so bad That is hilarious

Would the Friday before at 7:30 work? If not...I'll see if that time would work for others...and maybe look to see if I can switch the time slot. -
Levine on Borchard's stock + Harris to Milwaukee?
witesoxfan replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Is our entire bench going to be basically left handed? The only person serviceable from the right hand side would be Ozuna/Valdez. Everett (once Thomas comes back) is much better from the left side, along with Davis who can hit from the left side and awful from the right, Timo another left, and Mackowiak or Harris are lefties. We have an extremely unbalanced bench. We need to get a respectable right handed bat off the bench. Davis is pretty bad from both the right and left side of the plate. However, in his career, he is actually a slightly better hitter RH. Career wise - vs LHP - .231 12 55 .693 in his career(377 ab's) vs RHP - .239 26 149 .665 in his career(1135 ab's) So basically, he is equally s***ty from both sides of the plate. He did hit .280 with an OPS just under .900 against LHP in 03...but it was in like fewer then 60 ab's, so it is not a huge total. -
Are you still looking for another manager or not?

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) I know I'm new here but, since when is .281/38/112 not considered doing well. He had All Star numbers as a 24 year old you gotta think hes gonna get better or at least put up those numbers consistently, especially as a switch hitting first baseman, plus he's a pretty good fielder 24 E's in 142 games... Teix is no longer a prospect...he stopped being a prospect when he put up .260 26 84 .811 his rookie year. I was referring to the Cubs pitching prospects.

Notes: El Duque gets 'B'etter results
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also, what does the fact that he was on roids have anything to do with it? And I would also like someone to prove to me that he was doing roids...all I have heard was Jason was doing them...if someone can prove me wrong, I will gladly take a seat. Point blank, roids do not make you have a better eye...especially when your career OBP is about half of your career OPS. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) Mmmmm.....spelt. Enough wheat boy

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Frank Thomas has a high OBP and no speed. Does that mean he sucks? Frank Thomas career OPS - .996 Jeremy Giambi career OPS - .807 In other words, Frank Thomas hits it hard more often then Jeremy Giambi. -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Tis Jorge Cantu? Dude, you'd hit it Don't deny

Funniest mock draft in NFL history

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) I can agree with that. But do you think signing Plaxico Burress would change that? Would they want two 6'5 giants or a giant and a speedster. That would be horrible for CB's to deal with Plax and Mike Williams, yikes. Both would be nightmares for defenses. However, I'm not so sure that if they did get Plax that they would even look to a receiver at all. They have Burleson, who had 1000 yards receiving last year(partly due to Moss being out for a few games, but also partly due to him becoming a better player overall), along with Marcus Robinson too...and seemingly, all he does is catch touchdowns. He had 47 catches last year, totaling 657 yards, which are respectable numbers from a #3 receiver...but he had 8 touchdown receptions. That's pretty crazy. I'd think they would look to make both of their first round selections defensive players(and I could see them taking Derrick Johnson at 7 then, and finding room for him), while taking someone like Pool at 18. I could then see them getting a project like Matt Jones in the 3rd round, and trying to make him into something very solid. Speaking of Matt Jones...how crazy is he? 6'6 1/4'' 242 lbs, and a 40 under 4.40. W-O-W. I think I could definately see Minnesota looking at him. -
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) We should just leave up a sticky thread for Kerry Wood injuries. That way if there's ever a year he DOESN'T get injured we can make a separate post about it. Seriously though, I don't like to see players get injured unless they do steroids and then I don't mind so much. Not to be an ass...but he was perfectly healthy in both 02 and 03. He is injury prone...but so is Frank Thomas. Doesn't mean he is bad because of it, just that you have to be more careful with him.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) I don't know if this was posted anywhere, but the Pirates released J.R. House the other day. Wasn't he thought very highly of a couple years back?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Vizcaino - strong vs LH, weak vs RH So are you saying his K/BB of just under 3, his K/9 of just under 9, his WHIP of 0.94, and his BAA of .170 in 51.3 IP in 2002 against RHP was a fluke? He is solid against both, IMO...so why not just leave it at that? Personally, I think Vizcaino ends up being one of the biggest RP steals of the offseason, since he was essentially a throw in. I think he ends up being our RH set up guy this year, with Politte remaining in middle relief and Hermanson being the swing man.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) So you wouldn't trade an injury-prone pitcher for guy who's going to be a stud 1B/OF? Keep in mind how horrible the Cubs' outfield is and the fact that Wood gets hurt every season. Add in the fact that the Cubs have good pitching prospects in the minors. If I want to win now, I'm gonna take Zambrano-Prior-Maddux-Wood-Rusch/Dempster with an OF of Hairston-Patterson-Burnitz over Zambrano-Prior-Maddux-Rusch-Dempster with an OF of Hairston-Patterson-Teix. Prospects are nothing until they come up and do well. You can also get solid OFers at the deadline for much less then an ace, which is probably what the Cubs would need. I would take a risk on a guy who has shown he can be a stud in the past but has injury problems over a stud offensive player...yes, that's basically what I'm saying. I'm not saying I wouldn't consider the trade...if Texas threw in another piece, I might just make the deal...but I don't think I'd do Wood for Teix
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Until 2006 and they even gave him a no-trade clause. They could have traded him to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira this offseason as well. :headshake I don't know that I would make the trade either. When it comes right down to it, Wood is a hell of a good pitcher, and is ace caliber, but probably around a 2 or 3 pitcher. And while Teixeira is a monster, I still think I'd rather have an ace over a monster hitter. They do also have a pretty solid 1Bman in Derrek Lee...and I'm not sure how Teix would do in the OF...he'd probably end up servicable, but that is not a guarantee. It does suck for Wood...he has some pretty wicked stuff, and when he is on, he is untouchable...but he is pretty fragile. That's just unfortunate.

I created a Yahoo league just now...however, there is a twist to this. It is just like Survivor League, and basically the goal is to survive the season, survive getting cut, and winning in the end. Throughout the year, there are cuts at certain dates where teams are eliminated and their players are put on waivers, able to be claimed by all. There will be a HOST team, that will have 4 players, and there will be reward challenges throughout the year, where you can earn a player for your team, or for certain challenges, immunity to avoid being cut. It is pretty much based on the show Survivor, hence the name. There will be 16 teams in the league, plus the HOST team, making a grand total of 17 team total. It is a points league, so that is something to watch out for too. There is a little catch...you cannot use SP's. In fact, SP's values are very low, even if you get a pitcher who is both RP and SP eligible. The only spots for pitchers is RP, so saves and holds are both very valuable. The categories for hitters are R(1), 1B(1), 2B(2), 3B(3), HR(5), RBI(1), BB(1), IBB(1), K(-.5), GIDP(-2.5), and the categories for pitchers are W(2), L(-2), SV(8), H(-.5), ER(-1), HR(-1), K(1), GIDP(2.5), HLD(4) The positions are C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, LF, CF, RF, OF, UTIL, RP, RP, with 3 bench spots and 1 DL slot. If you have any interest, just PM me for the details. EDIT: Should have mentioned the draft date and time. It is 3-19 at 9:30 PM, a Saturday night(and I know that may not work for some...if it doesn't work out for a lot, I can try and change it, but there will be no guarantees that I will get a good time for it) EDIT #2: I also need to mention that you have to give me access to your team, so I can drop your players if you are eliminated.

Viking Turmoil continues
witesoxfan replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) There's always turmoil for the Vikings. I just wish they'd accept losing and get on with life. ??? With a halfway decent draft(MWill at 7, Pool at 18, and maybe Nugent with their 2nd round pick assuming he is still there, which he probably should be, along with others), and a halfway decent coach(be it Tice or someone else), they are a 10 win team next year. They have put themselves in a very good position to win next year. The defense needs some help...but signing Smoot will help that a little bit...and Pat Williams is pretty solid too. -
It's snowing in North Dakota, the NFL draft is being talked about all over, and Kerry Wood is injured. What else is new?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Don't be so sure about Williamson not belonging in the top 15. I've been touting him for a while that he would make it this high, and I see why he COULD. http://www.collegesports.com/sports...012405aai.html# "Notebook Hunting a Gamecock: South Carolina WO Troy Williamson, who is expected to be the No. 2 receiver selected in this year's draft behind Michigan's Braylon Edwards, had dinner with Washington Sunday night and has also slated a meet-and-eat with Dallas this week here in Mobile. The Redskins, who pick No. 9 in April, and Dallas, which picks No. 11, are both said to be in the market for a difference-making wide receiver and may be targeting Williamson." Let me say this then...I, at the very least, expect both Edwards and MWill to be drafted ahead of Williamson. I like Williamson too...and I do think he is a potential top 15 pick(in fact, I have been saying for a while now that I think Chicago should trade down with San Diego, getting 12 and 28, and then with 12, selecting either Williamson, Benson(if he falls, which he very well could, depending on what Arizona does with their RB situation), or a CB...be it Rolle or Jones...or perhaps even trading down again from 12 if what they want is not on the table(which it should be). Let me also say at the very least, that Minnesota will not select Williamson at 7. Not when they are in love with Mike Williams. -
do you think i should do this trade
witesoxfan replied to soxhawks's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
QUOTE(soxhawks @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) i should also mention it is an al only league LOL...yeah, that would have been nice to know ahead of time. It depends on if you need help in the OF/have a good backup catcher(or have a player that is solid that is also catcher eligible...though I'm not sure who that would be)...if you do have a good backup catcher that will put up decent numbers, make the deal...if not, you need to think pretty hard about the deal, especially if you don't need a little bit of power help in the outfield. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Vikings sign CB Fred Smoot ... Dolphins are closing in a deal that would ship Patrick Surtain to either Minnesota, Seattle or Kansas City. I'm gonna take a guess and say that Surtain is not gonna be a Viking.

Aaron Rowand has had 1 good year. Juan Uribe has had 1 good year. Tadahito Iguchi has had 0 good years in the MLB. Ross Gload has had 1 good year. Paul Konerko had a year that almost seems flukey. Joe Crede hit less then .240 last year. Podsednik, the leadoff hitter, had an OBP of .314 last year. Our starting RFer, one of our biggest moves, had an OPS under .800. Duque is injury prone. FG had a good year, but that is following 2 bad years...yada yada yada...why are people surprised when they hear people bashing the Sox? The White Sox front office has done an excellent job of covering up how many unsure things the Sox actually have. Right now, there is no sure thing on the South Side of Chicago, except that it will be chilly in April, it will be hot in July, and that it will rain a few times this year. I have said this before, and I guess I will say it again...WHO GIVES A s*** WHAT THE MEDIA SAYS? When the season happens, one of two things will happen...they will gel and win, or they won't and they'll lose. I think the former will happen, I can give my reasons(but won't because that would take about 42 pages ), and that is that. You can think what you want, the media can think what they want, Twins fans can think what they want, Indians fans can think what they want, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Steve Phillips is not the brightest guy in the world, but who cares? We have done absolutely nothing to grab the headlines, to grab the country's attention, and most people suddenly expect the entire baseball world, casual fans, die hard fans, and baseball analysts alike to appreciate the moves the White Sox have made, and appreciate how much they actually have improved themselves? Statistically, they have only improved themselves by about 2 wins(or so I've seen)...but that does not take into account the fact that we probably will not have a hitter 2-9 that will put up an OPS of less then .750(and Pods may break that too if he has a good enough year), that we have a full rotation 1 to 5 for the first time since probably '94(when we were considered one of the favorites to win it all). That does not include that our pen goes 7 or 8 deep, that does not include that we have a pretty solid bench, that does not include how versatile this team is offensively...you consider all that, and this could be a team that gels like crazy and wins 95 games. I've said 89, because that's about what I expect, and that's what I think will win the division...but 95 is not out of the realm of possibility either. /rant
