  1. I gotta bad feeling about letting Willie go...I don't give a s*** what kind of attitude he has, I just gotta bad feeling about it. The fact that Iguchi is here tells me all I need to know...the writing is on the wall. Willie is gone. The fact that he put up .280 .365 against RHP last year speaks volumes for me...considering that it was basically his first year in the majors, and the fact that 80% of the pitchers in the league are RH, that tells me we would have a .365 OBP guy at the top of our order 80% of the time, and you know he is going to improve with his base stealing as he gets older, as he gains more experience, starts to pick up some of the nuiansces, and just improves his technique. We are losing a very solid ball player in Harris, and he will bloom somewhere else. He is gone, to whomever, and he will put up solid numbers with whomever. When given consistent playing time, he is a very solid starting 2Bman.
  2. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) I think this can only help Frank, that is unless he really is using which I think we all dont think is the case. Frank gets the chance to speak the truth in front of Congress and basically say, "No, I have been clean and I have put up my numbers without any help." Meanwhile, Bonds, Giambi, Canseco, Sosa, etc. get to say "Oh, I used." This can only help Frank's image. Frank is going to look like a darling and the media is going to use his name as the "good" and the rest of the names as the "bad". If I was Frank, I'd jump all over this opportunity... Bonds already tried to wriggle out of some of his steroids accusations by saying that he did them "unintentionally"...so what's to stop him from saying that again? What is stopping Sosa from saying he didn't take them? What is stopping McGwire from saying that? What is stopping Palmeiro from saying that? Yeah, if they get caught in that lie, they could be in trouble...but as I say, you ain't breaking the law until you get caught.
  3. Minnesota will be lucky to get a 3rd rounder for Bennett, and I could see them only getting a 4th rounder. So why would Arizona give up arguably their best receiver for Bennett and a 2nd round pick? If Minnesota were to trade a RB and a pick for Bolding, I could see maybe Onterrio Smith and the 18th overall pick...not this bulls*** though.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Frank has spoken about his frustration competing against guys on steriods before, Schilling is pretty outspoken about everything. It may be why they are invited. I would venture to guess that this is pretty close to the truth. Frank has said for years that he is more then willing to be the first in line to test...he is very much against roids.
  5. Jerome Mathis. Anyone who can run a 4.31 officially timed 40 is a sweetheart of mine.
  6. LOL, yeah, I shoulda waited till after the combine. No way Williams goes at 4 anymore...I actually see the Bears taking Benson, although it is the wrong move, or I see them trading down with perhaps San Diego, and who they take where I am not sure...at this point, I think that would be the smarter move. I also see Brown at 2, Mike Williams at 7, I see Brown falling, I see Barnes rising, I see Williamson going earlier then 18, I see Pac Man higher then 19, I see Barron falling...I think now that the combines are over, a better mock draft could be made. I will say that I do definately see the Johnson remaining a top 10 pick, and that he is a talent that a team would trade up to get if they wanted him badly enough, and while I am not sure what direction Cleveland is going to be going in, I think that could be a place where a team could trade up to, because I'm not sure there is a good enough pick for Cleveland at 3, and so I could most definately see them trading down, and Johnson remaining a top 5 pick overall. Also, I do see a good chance of Chicago trading down...I'm just not sure they are going to like what they see at 4 enough to pick it up. I most definately could see a trade down with San Diego so they can pickup Braylon there, and Chicago can either hope that Benson falls(because I really only see Tampa Bay and Arizona as potential suitors for RB, and if Arizona is going to trade for a RB, be it Bennett or Henry, that would take them out of the picture, giving Chicago a clear shot at Benson at 12...and if Benson doesnt make it to 12, they can take Williamson, Barnes, Barron...there are still a lot of doors open to them). JMO, but I would look for that.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) They do. Why is that so hard to believe? Methinks AJP is referring to the rotation. As of right now, Contreras is not above average, and Garland is about right at average.
  8. Not sure I'd call Contreras in the 15th brilliance :banghead And a 12th rounder on a guy who probably will not play until the ASB?
  9. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) They need some of that money to sign draft picks. or they could just not sign their draft picks, which would be the smart thing to do
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Actually the reason they satarted doing this is because players were selling this. Canseco had in his contract with Tampa Bay that if/when he got in the Hall he'd wear a Devil Rays hat. I'm glad they did it. I thought I remembered hearing it was because of Boggs potentially going into the Hall as a DRay, since he got his 3000th hit with them. Either way, both would be pretty bad, quite frankly.
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) Um, Cone eech ee wah muh f***ah.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) Going after Fiedler kinda surprises me. But he would be a great back up quarterback. I felt sorry for him down in Miami, he won down there, just not enough I guess. Fiedler was not that good, and he has never been anything more then a backup QB in all reality.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) I want us to get sang ho moon because he is just cool as f*** looking. And how cool is that name too?
  14. Thomas is a .270 30 100 .950 player when he is at about 90%. Those kinds of hitters are worth $5 mill at the very least. And I too think Everett is going to have a great year. I don't see why he wouldn't.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I understand why you would say that but Miami still hasn't changed from Benson to Brown. Brown got himself a lot of money from his Combine workouts but I wouldn't doubt Miami still takes Benson. You never know what can happen. If Miami is stupid, they will take Benson, because as of right now, Brown > Benson. If someone offers you the chance to take $1 million or $2 million, odds are pretty good you'll take the $2 mill. Both are nice, but one is better then the other. Point blank, Brown is gone by 3, let alone 4.
  16. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Contrast the way Carlos left with the way Maggs did. It tells me what kind of guy Carlos is. He has never bad-mouthed this organization even though he probably has a few gripes. Most the guys do charity work but I know Carlos always gives that extra effort too. I think he has reached deity status in Panama. Had his gripes?! You kidding me...he got traded to Milwaukee. Of course he has gripes. I love Carlos as a player, but the Sox needed to shed some salary, and it had to of been one of Konerko and Lee, so, whatever. Consider that freeing up Carlos got us Iguchi, Duque, and AJP, along with Pods and Vizcaino...that's not a bad net profit for a good OFer.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) I voted Ronnie Brown because I would like the Bears to sign Ian Gold who was released from Tampa Bay today which would replace Johnson and maybe sign a WR like Jurevicous (who was also cut form Tampa), Brown, or Mason which would take away the drafting of Williams/Edwards. If 1 of these happens, I want the Bears to draft for the other but if neither of these happen, I would want them to take Edwards or Johnson. Dude, Ronnie Brown is the #1 back in the draft...I am almost 100% sure he will not slip past 2.
  18. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) It's been said in other articles that the players that had to go were traded or let go. The implication was that they did not fit with the team philosophy and did not belong. Sort of an "if you're not with us, you're against us" idea. It's fairly obvious how that applies to maggs, but not as obvious with Lee. Was it just his not retaliating for the Burke incident? Is there more to it? As hard as he works, he is still not the brightest guy out there, and never will be. I'm sure that is part of the reason.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) I'll throw some love out for Derrick Johnson. He's an absolute freak. Concentrate offense on the next couple of rounds, but take (arguably) the best athlete/defensive player in the draft in Johnson. I do agree that thinking about him is reasonable. I mean, what's wrong with having a defense that is one of the absolute best in the league? It has worked decently enough for Baltimore.
  20. http://web.archive.org/collections/web.html Just thought this site was kinda cool...figured I'd share it with you guys. I'm sure some have probably seen it before, but it's worth it. Also... Do you know how far Soxtalk as REALLY come?
  21. For starters, I could honestly care less what the Bears do. That being said, I voted for Williams, because if they remain at 4, that is what I think they should do. However, having thought about it a little more, I don't think they should stay at 4 any more. I think they should trade down with San Diego, because San Diego does have a pretty pressing need at receiver, and in doing that, they are assuring that the Vikings get the lesser of the top 2, or that Minny has to look longer at Derrick Johnson(which I have said all along I think they should do...when your defense is as weak as their's was, and you can get an impact defensive player like that, you don't pass it up), and that they can draft a CB and a WR in the first round. Preferably, I would say Williamson at 12, and then Miller/Rogers/Browner at 28. If for some reason, Washington takes Williamson at 9, you can look at Jones-Rolle at 12, and then someone like Roddy White, Chris Henry, or Jerome Mathis(whose stock really rose this past weekend, running an officially timed 4.31 40) at 28. Either or covers 2 needs, and covers them decently enough.
  22. I don't follow enough basketball to say I have any true knowledge of this at all, however, I have seen someone on here...maybe Hammerhead...compare Tyson Chandler to Ben Wallace. I think anyone would take Ben Wallace down low defensively.
  23. I think something had to be said. The fact that someone from the White Sox organization is saying stop talking about it makes it better, in my mind.
  24. I ...err, in a non-homoerotic way.
  25. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) There are very few talented backs in the later rounds of the NFL draft. Adrian Peterson is a better option than anything that they'd be able to get after the third round. Mewelde Moore was a 4th round pick, and he was very solid in his limited playing time last year. Rudi Johnson ran for 1454 yards. Domanick Davis almost ran for 1200 yards last year. Michael Pittman, while not starter material, was decent too, and would be a good backup back. Lee Suggs, while again, not spectacular, put up a 3.7 yards per carry average, which is decent enough, especially for a backup. Those are just examples of players in the NFL right now, and there are even more then that. The point of that is that there are solid guys all over, especially later in the draft, that you can get and can put up 1000 yards for you. The other thing is how deep this draft really is at RB. The top 10 backs in the draft could all potentially be starters at some point in their careers.
