Exactly...but it's not like he got picked off 3B with 1 out in the 9th or anything like that in his career.
-
So give him more than Barry Zito money...he's given us 2 very good years as a starting pitcher....so he deserves $5-$6 million a year. Or even more
-
He's got a bright future? He's got no ceiling on what he can do! On another note....you say Borchard has no range....guess what, neither does Jim Edmonds....but he can still play CF and he's a real good one at that.
-
No....starting pitching. If it is real good, like all pitch very well, then we will win a lot of games and probably take the division. If it is like last year or worse than last year, we will be a .500 team or worse. I assume it will be somewhere in the middle and we will win 85-90 games. The bullpen will be good, the lineup will be good....it's the starting pitching that is, essentially, our hinge.
-
Or if he's the next Jim Parque.
-
That's his name and that's the guy I'd want...he's a real numbers guy. He has to be, or else Beane wouldn't have him be the assistant GM. He'd be as good as JP Ricciardi...holy s*** I just slaughtered his name.

Rocky Biddle should be a starting pitcher...

I don't care how bad or good Ritchie is....an ERA over 6.00 is pitiful, it sucks, it is god-awful...there are so many adjectives that describe how bad of an ERA that is that it isn't funny. Ritchie was real good for the first two months he was here...big f***in deal....and then for the next two-and-a-half months, he stunk, because of something he couldn't control, run support. In other words, he became a headcase...so how do we know that's not how he's going to pitch as a starter from now on? What if he is only going to be a good reliever? I don't want another overpriced reliever along with Osuna. The Ritchie-plan failed....let's move on. He should be the butt of a lot of jokes....maybe he is, I don't know. Wright will put up better numbers than Ritchie, regardless of how many real pitches he has, considering how much he will make compared to how much Ritchie will make. Wright saves us about $1.5 mill or so over Ritchie, and that $1.5 mill could be used to get a guy like Jeff Suppan who would be used as an innings eater and than one of Jon Rauch and Rocky Biddle would be in the starting rotation, another in the pen as a swing man. IMO, Ritchie should be done with the Sox and the Sox should be done with Ritchie. I am sure Ritchie is a good person, but as a player, I don't think he is that good. We will, at best, get 10-15 wins with a 4.50 ERA or so from Ritchie....with Wright, we will get 10-15 wins with an ERA around 4.50....and as I explained above, I'd rather have the guy who makes less that will put up similar numbers...and if that extra money could go to signing Suppan, who will give us 200 innings and 10-15 wins as well, than it is all the better. We would actually have 4 legit starters along with 1 of Rauch or Biddle, and one of those 4 would be Buehrle, who is a stud. In the end, signing Suppan for $1.5 million saves us $500,000....and what if the Sox and Buehrle come to a contract agreement but the Sox, for a change, want to sweeten the deal, and they add that $500,000....you think Buehrle would take a hint that maybe we do in fact want him and his pitching? IMO, I think he would take that hint. -
Sometimes it's the trade or signing you don't make that makes your team better...let's hope it holds true in this case. Hell, that's all we can do is hope. On a side note...I realized something pitifully sad earlier tonight. With the dismantling of the Indians, that leaves us as the highest payroll in the division....Minny is about 20th in the majors, KC is looking to go down to 30th with a $37 million payroll, Detroit will be around $45 million tops, and Cleveland will be $50 million or so....we are going to be around $55-$60 million....and we are complaining about how cheap we are. Our whole f***in division is pathetic....quite sad.

What about(I think his name is) Paul DePosta? He's the A's assistant GM

Hitchcock, over the last 3 years.... 2000 - 11 games, 11 starts - 1-6, 4.93 ERA 2001 - 13 games(10 with Yanks), 12 starts(9 with Yanks) - 6-5, 5.63 ERA 2002 - 20 games, 2 starts - 1-2, 5.49 ERA He's had an ERA below 4.00 once, and that was at 3.93 in 1998 with San Diego. The most games he's ever won in a season is 13. His career ERA is 4.77. You wouldn't be mad if KW brought that $6 million s***bag into Chicago? He's a bullpen pitcher, and that's all...and he's not even worthy of setting up or closing....so he ain't worth $6 frickin million. He sucks...he's worse than Ritchie and made twice as much as Ritchie did last year. I wouldn't take him if New York sent $5.9 million in cash....it wouldn't be worth it. He'd just take up space and that's it.

Rocky Biddle should be a starting pitcher...

Wright is probably the worst pitcher in that rotation when each is pitching their best, and that's only because he's so frickin inconsistent at this point in his career. And I'd still take him over Ritchie any day. Ritchie will cost us $2 million or so and I'd rather get a guy, like Jeff Suppan who will give us 200 innings, rather than Ritchie who could or could not give us 200 innings. A rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Wright, Rauch, Biddle is better than Buehrle, Wright, Ritchie, Rauch/Biddle but is about as good as Buehrle, Garland, Wright, Suppan, Rauch/Biddle, IMO. I don't care what the hell anyone here says....Ritchie sucks, plain and simple. I don't want him. Give us f***in Jamie Navarro....atleast he'd give us some comic relief when he b****es about not getting run support after losing 9-1 or some s*** like that. -
If you wanted me to, I could go on and on with profanities galore in this post about how stupid Lofton is and how he ruined the White Sox this past year. I'll save you the 5th grade language. Lofton is a clubhouse cancer, is streaky, and when a guy hits .150, it's like the Kenny Williams at 3B experiment....you don't do it over again. We were smart enough that time, and are smart enough this time....I hope. Jimenez is a good leadoff hitter....and if we want a CFer, get Cruz Jr.....he's the one you want.

I agree Jas....El Duque is the only one that's really available....Hitchcock is, but who in the bluehell will trade for that bag of s***? I hope to god it's not us. In other news, the Yankees payroll is at $140 million and will rise......HAHA. They'll have to unload more than $23 million and they can't do that. That's funny as hell. If they could move Mondesi, Posada and El Duque, that'd be around $26 million....too bad....they won't move Mondesi.

Rocky Biddle should be a starting pitcher...

I gotta agree with Murc on this one....I don't know....he could be a good starter, one that can go 9 innings of unhittable ball where he is just throwing the ball real well all night long. On the other hand, with him in the rotation, that weakens our bullpen, and we only have Glover, Marte, Osuna, Koch, Ginter and Wunsch....that bullpen would be better with Biddle in it instead of Ginter, but then the rotation takes a hit. s***...this is a toughie. Rocky had real good stuff....but with his arm the way it is, all f***ed up, I'd be careful with him....we don't want to ruin one of the bright young arms of the game. I'd take it slow with Rocky...if he does start, Manuel better still have him on a pitch count...maybe around 80 or so, and then eventually work his way up there, maybe to around 110 by the end of the year. I do like that rotation though....Buehrle, Garland, Wright, Biddle, Rauch....not only do we have 5 of the best young arms in the game in our rotation, but if we let the offense do its thing that it did in 2000, that rotation could get a confidence boost and they'll know when they need to step it up a notch when the offense isn't clicking, or they can know they only have to pitch 6 innings because the bullpen will get it done for the final 3. This team could win the division...or it could flop miserably and we could be a .500 team again. -
Hell no to Hitchcock....and dependant upon what we give up for El Duque, hell no to him too. Hitchcock was once a decent pitcher, but now he is injury prone and bad....El Duque can be a pretty good pitcher and he is lights out in the playoffs, except for against the Angels when he gave up back-to-back homers. I'd do Liefer and Sanders for El Duque, as I assume the Yankees don't want to add anymore payroll.
-
I knew the Sox drafted them and I just didn't know what happened after that....so thanks for the clarification.
-
But look at her....who the f*** cares how he pitches? His wife/fiancee/girfriend/sister(oops, didn't mean that one) is f***ing hot. Suppose that was that girl that gash was talking about once upon a time that hit on him and gave him her number?
-
Rauch isn't exactly a prospect...he's had considerable time at the major league level....about 2 months worth....or in other words, a third of a season. My top 5 are: 1. Honel 2. Malone 3. Diaz 4. Stewart 5. Almonte & Munoz Honel has the most upside, Malone is the next closest thing we have to becoming a full time starter in the minors, Diaz has wicked good stuff and is Pedro-like(though injury prone), Stewart is a good lefty pitcher that can start and relieve, but will do what is right for the team when he comes up, and Almonte and Munoz tie because Almonte is a good righty relief prospect and Munoz is a good lefty....both have a lot of upside as being solid bullpen pitchers, though Munoz could be a pretty good starter, assuming he has 4 good pitches(maybe a changeup, two fastballs and his curve, or maybe a change, a fastball, a curve ball and a slider...something like that). I am really looking forward to watching these guys pitch at the big league level.
-
Two good examples of guys that didn't sign with the Sox after they were drafted by them are Jeff Weaver(NYY) and Bobby Hill(CHC)....and I wish I could remember who it was, but one of our pitchers, maybe it was Dan Wright, was selected by Cleveland but opted for college and then we eventually drafted him. Damnit, I wish I could remember for sure.
-
Agreed....but goddamn, I wish he wasn't such a f***in' Scrooge....bah humbug this JR! :****
-
All I want for Christmas is Colon. But I don't want cologne. Speaking of Colon, if we got him, and he pitched bad, we would know what stunk up the place.
-
Sounds like Hideki Irabu right there....maybe Matsui and Contreras both flop because Matsui chokes under the pressure and Contreras is actually like 52.
-
Must not be...I think he may be in the Orioles organization....played 1 game and had 3 at-bats for them in 2002. Not much, but still something.
-
You understand what I'm saying right? We trade for Colon, Vidro and Barret, and then if we succeed, we resign them, with the exception of maybe Barret, and we basically reap the benefits from there. If we won the pennant or even the World Series this year, we would reap from the benefits. We would become the team in Chicago again, our share prices would go up, attendance would increase....etc, etc etc. Then with all the money and what not coming in, JR could put about $10 million towards the renovations that will make the park look like it did from the picture on that website....you couldn't say anything bad about Comiskey Park or the Chicago White Sox organization anymore...period. We'd still have the farm system and we'd have a great major league team as well....we could form a dynasty....just say that and hear the nice ring it has...the Chicago White Sox dynasty....sounds nice, doesn't it? If the dynasty started, we could have a payroll of around $75 million within 2 years of its creation. But if it fails and the team is out of contention and doesn't make the playoffs, that's when White Flag part 3 or 4 or what not falls upon us....we rebuild and start over...the earliest we would start competing again would be 2005, but most likely around 2006 or 2007. That's what I'm saying....now or never. Let's do it
