The original trade of Koch, for Hinske? Or the Sox trade? Maybe he means both....but I doubt that. I'm thinking he thinks the Koch for Foulke deal...he wrote a commentary story on it that was on how well the Sox got off.

Why, so he can pitch 5 innings a night? I'd rather have Rauch and Ritchie out....I would actually prefer Rauch and a free agent pitcher or one acquired by trade and then have Biddle come out of the bullpen. Frank said that Biddle had the best stuff on the team....it doesn't mean he will be a good starter. When we have other, better options, why not have him in the pen? Anaheim sure as hell thinks it is a good idea to have their arm with the best stuff, Francisco Rodriguez, aka K-Rod, in the bullpen...if he works 1 or 2 innings and pitches well, it shortens the game up by that much. Why waste the bullpen with a guy that can go, at the most, 6-7 innings(and usually less) when at the same time you could put pitchers on the mound who are better starters(ie Rauch/Ritchie) and have proven it at different levels while putting the other 'starter'(Biddle) in the bullpen where he could effectively pitch 1 to 2 innings a night, as I already said? If we can bring Ritchie back at $1 million a year, than it is worth it. If Ritchie goes for more, than we should look for someone outside of the organization, assuming we want to see if Malone/Stewart/someone else could take over the spot....I personally don't think Rocky should start. If we ditch Osuna, he could take over as set-up man, or he could be the swing man and Ginter could be the set-up guy, or something to that extent. Maybe Biddle is a 6th or 7th inning guy, dependant upon the situation, while Ginter is the swing man and Almonte takes over the set-up role...or maybe we don't get rid of Osuna at all, and he would be in the place of where I had Almonte. Who knows. All I know is we should have a damn good bullpen next year...assuming Jerry doesn't tinker it to s***.

I was just saying he wasn't consistent....he was good, just not consistent. That's all.
-
Something like that...and that was a major reason we sucked during that time period. We didn't have Lofton getting on and stealing bases like he did earlier. As I said before...a good leadoff hitter does a lot for a team. When Lofton was good, we were among the league's best. When he was s***ty, we were f***ing terrible. It is plain as day.

And Billy Beane would look like the Einstein of baseball.
-
In that case, I agree.
-
Holy s***...that is Royce Ring? I personally thought it looked kind of like Buehrle with a mullet and big sideburns. I guess the SD on his cap would give it away that it is Ring though. Sweet s***....if Ring really does look that much like Buehrle....well, I don't know what to say.

It's nothing to celebrate over....it is just a minor signing. It is something to be slightly happy or slightly mad about, whichever you feel. It's not like Alomar will cost us $10 million...or atleast I hope he won't.
-
Oh s*** if you're GM we're screwed
-
I wouldn't exactly call Billy consistent...in 2000, his ERA was under 3.00....in 2001, his ERA was just under 5.00 at 4.80...this past year it was just over 3.00 at around 3.24. He's consistently inconsistent. Not exactly the kind of consistent I want.

I wouldn't mind Palmeiro....but I'd rather have and use Rowand over Palmeiro, personally.
-
Would you rather have Mr. Versatility manning the plate? Sheesh, KW could walk down the street wrong, and you'd flip out. Yes I would rather have Josh Paul. He doesn't creek when he walks. I fully expect Alomar to just fall apart one day, literally. Hes going to get hit with a pitch and pieces will start falling off. What, have you confused Sandy Alomar with Mike Piazza? There's a major difference. Alomar can throw runners out. Plus, he can bring a little more to the table than Paul can...he hits better, he plays better behind the plate, he calls better games, he knows our staff and he will be a good factor in Olivo's growth. Not only that, but what if Paul and Olivo flop? Wouldn't it be nice to have one catcher we can count on what we are getting(which may be good hitting and good catching or may be a guy on the DL who just teaches neat s*** to Olivo)? I think it would be.

Who would you rather have in CF, Rowand, who has proven nothing to me yet...he showed signs that he could be a good, .270ish hitter with 20 bombs and a decent OBP in 2001 and then for his first 50 or so at-bats didn't draw a walk at all. He's got decent speed but does get good jumps on balls, he's got a pretty good arm, but that's about it. Defensively he could be compared to Edmonds...not fast, but gets good jumps and has a good arm, as I said. Rowand will give us 20 or so homers a year along with double digit steals and a great person to sacrifice a runner over in the bottom of the order. Or would you rather Cruz, who has proven he can hit for power, plays great defense and has a great arm, has good speed on the basepaths, has good plate discipline and is left-handed, but who strikes out a lot and probably couldn't get a bunt down for his life and who would cost about $2.5 million more? I know which one I'd want, assuming we could another (good) pitcher first.
-
He'd strike out a s***load too....probably would lead the team in that category. Just thought I'd point that out....mainly due to the fact that he struck out 138 times in 01 and 129 times in 00...and he struck out 106 times this past year...in 124 games.
-
You could pretty much condense Clayton into one long, bad mistake...he realizes(or I sure hope to god he does) that that was a real s***ty move on his part. He saw a need and replaced it quickly...he was a rookie GM. I think he'll be decent, but I will be critical of his every move. Thus far, I'd say his offseason has been a wash...Koch for Foulke was a wash, not getting anyone(so far) has been a wash, and you can't be critical of him not signing anyone unless the right offer comes forward...and the right offer hasn't come forward. He didn't want to give Jamie Moyer 3-years...no one did, except the Mariners. I wonder why in the hell Moyer resigned with the Mariners. He won't be anything special, but he will be decent for a little bit anyways.
-
Ohhhhhh....NOW I see what you're saying. I personally don't know which job offer loooks more attractive...it basically depends on what he wants to do. If he wants to help a young staff and a young catcher or two, then Detroit is the place to go....if he wants to help a young catcher and maybe a couple young pitchers and possibly win while getting less money, than Chicago is the place to go. I don't know...it's up to him.
-
If I remember correctly. Dotson was the #2 pitcher in '83..... behind #1 Hoyt..... and in front of #3 Bannister and #4 Burns. My question..... who was the Sox 5th pitcher in '83 or did they go with, primarily, a 4 arm staff? I'm drawing a blank. How's Jerry Koosman sound?
-
Why does everyone call Konerko "the franchise?" Are you forgetting... No s***....if you want the franchise now, you think of Buehrle and Maggs. As the team's spokesman, I may think of Konerko, but who the hell thinks of the spokesman?
-
Exactly....and that is what a good leadoff hitter does for a team.
-
They can't offer him $250,000....the minimum league salary is $300,000. I'd take him for $500,000-$1 million....that's about the price range it would take. Not only that, but he is a good bat when healthy, along with a good arm and defense...the only thing I'm worried about are his knees and how much they slow him up.
-
In the St. Louis farm system...that was atleast the last place I remember him being.
-
Give him 2 years, $6-million....for $3 million a year, he would hit atleast .250 20 70 20....along with pretty good defense. Not only that, but if he produces well like he did once upon a time, he could bring us a few draft picks, if that kind of thing occurs in the future, assuming we were to offer him arbitration when the time comes. s***, that's a bargain when you compare him to Konerko, who is going to make around the area of $6-$7 million this year....he'll hit slightly worse but play defense in a spot we need and steal a few bases. That would be a great move by KW....then again, I could make a great signing. Anyone could. Even a baby.
-
YOU ASS! HAHAHA!
-
Detroit is I believe the only team that has showed interest in Alomar, aside from us....and we basically said if no one shows interest in you, we'll sign you. If he doesn't sign with Detroit, I'd be expecting to see Alomar in a White Sox uniform next year.
-
And then who the hell does St. Louis use at 2B? I think that is a false rumor....who would they get, Marcus Giles or something? Maybe Keith Lockhart? Yeah right...that's f***ing hilarious...we'd be blowing St. Louis away with our offer.
