OH, and Tom Loxas used to write for Cubs Den (if he still doesn't). That Cubs Den and Loxas blurb were the same thing, and they both mean jacks***.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Like I said man, I'm just posting stuff I find. It's a lot better than the last 20 pages of cox, and star wars conversations. I don't buy it either but just trying to pass along the info. REALLY? QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) Well... TIFWIW.... But it may be over for us... https://mobile.twitter.com/TomLoxas/status/...336944038395904 Tom Loxas reporting its down to NYY and CHC. Another Cubs dweeb reporting the same: https://mobile.twitter.com/CubsDen I appreciate you posting this stuff, because it's relevant, but every single time, I or someone else will point out that it's conjecture, speculation, and bulls***.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) You're absolutely correct. But the leaks are coming from the teams sides. Somone in the Cubs and Yankees are leaking $ and terms which then leads this tweeters to hypothisize, im guesssing. And I think it's ironic you're hearing the most comin from the two teams who are most desperate for Tanaka. You think they are going to be tweeting everything truthfully and honestly? That they wouldn't try and send out mixed signals? That some dude who runs a blog for Chicago Now has inside sources directly within the Cubs' front office that knows for 100% certain fact that it's down to the Cubs and Yankees?

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) David Kaplan @thekapman 2h I'm looking forward to having White Sox general manager Rick Hahn in studio on Tuesday on sports talk live! @sportstalkchi Expand Why is Hahn doing tv when he should be on the phone with Tanaka agent trying to get him to sign? Christ, it's probably a 15 minute spot, if that. It'll probably take an hour out of his day. If they lose Tanaka over an hour's worth of time with Hahn doing a service to the fans, then he's far too finicky and I don't want someone like that on the team to begin with. Relax dude. It's 4:40 AM in Tokyo. Tanaka is going to have the final say. If anything happens today, it's likely going to be closer to 8 PM than it is right now.

Dude's a f***ing Cubs fan. I could tweet out "hear it's down to #Dodgers, #Yankees, and #WhiteSox" and have as much credibility and bias. It's a bulls*** report. SERIOUSLY, nothing is coming out until pen hits paper or, at the very least, he is actually near a decision.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) That Patriots vs Broncos game yesterday was really boring. Yeah, I was really looking forward to that but it turned into a stinker. The Pats were running 3 wide sets with Collie, Edelman, and Amendola. That is absolutely terrible.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) My sources indicate that he is dreaming about a certain team right now OMG THIS TOTES MAGOTES PUTS THE SOX/CUBS/YANKS/DODGERS/ANGELS/DBACKS/MANCHESTER UNITED AS FAVS

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) He would be a solid nose tackle. Not really a great pass rusher, but he could eat up blockers inside. As far as I'm aware, cannibalism is still illegal in New Jersey.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) "We showed today who the best team was. I'm the best corner on the best defense on the best team in the NFL. Next, the Superbowl!" If he says that (or something similar), the reaction is far less illicit in nature and more "Richard being Richard." Cocky and fun sells - this "HE HATE ME, ME AGAINST THE WORLD" attitude, especially when you are one of the best players in the NFL, does not.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) It's quiet. TOO quiet. Something needs to happen today. Nothing's going to happen today. I mean, at 11:45 AM CST, it's currently 2:45 AM JST. Tanaka is SLEEPING.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) I come back to guys like McGwire, Palmeiro. These guys juiced quite heavily at young ages in the early 1990's or late 1980's and you couldn't tell. Palmeiro didn't really explode at all because his drug of choice was Winstrol, and McGwire didn't really start to inflate until the 1990's. His numbers when he was 31 don't look all that outrageous compared to his rookie year. Rafael Palmeiro pointed at Congress and denied juicing and a lot of people believed him because his body type didn't look like Bonds until he was caught for abusing a steroid that was supposed to do exactly that - help you build up but only to a certain extent. There's reasonable doubt. That's all I'm basing this on. You are saying he's guilty by association and that he was guilty at some point, I'm saying he's innocent until proven guilty. I'm pointing out that Bonds was skinny, that his own testimony pretty much states that he didn't start until he saw what guys were doing, and that he was a completely different monster than the already great player he was prior to that point. I have as much proof as you do that Bonds roided, and I choose to believe he did not. If it comes out some day that he was roiding since the day he set foot in San Francisco, I am not going to be surprised and I am not going to eat crow.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) Anyone at the Lincoln Park bars during the blackout last night? Good times. How would they remember?

I don't think I've ever said I don't want him on my team. He's a great player. Still a giant douche.
-
There are 3 sides to every story. Sherman is still a huge douche. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) Classless? This is classless I agree, and he should be fired immediately for that move. Lockette also clothes-lined James on that punt return too, so it was a classy affair all around.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Even if you assume Shaq was the only reason they won the first three (I don't necessarily) he still won 2 on his own with his best player being, who, Pau Gasol? Is it easier to win with a good, all-star level center or a hall of fame, probably 2nd best SG of all time player? Not to mention Lebron is a greatest shot in the history of the sport (or close to it) away from having only one ring. I was just pointing out that Kobe didn't do it alone or as the biggest dog. Shaq was definitely bigger and more important. I also think arguing rings is a pretty terrible way of determining who is the best. Do you really believe that Bob Cousy is as great as Michael Jordan? Let the numbers do the talking.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Rings don't back it up. Yet. So I don't think it's indisputable. Yes they do. Shaq won 4 rings and Kobe was lucky enough to tag along for 3 of them. It's the same reason I don't put Wade above LeBron despite having more rings.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) I mean, he called the guy mediocre. If that's being an asshole than I give up. He wasn't vulgar and he wasn't using foul language. What Sherman did bothers me a lot less than players getting in each others faces, jumping up and down like lunatics or making eccentric gestures following a tackle in the secondary in the first quarter. He made a fool of himself. But so what? These are grown men, we're really supposed to be feeling for them so much? Like, let's hope he didn't hurt anyone's feelings? Forget it. You obviously don't think that Sherman is a douche, I do. There's no point arguing it.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Not being snarky, but I'm not sure what your point is? That you can be violent and emotional without talking s*** and being an asshole.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) This is a good article on Sherman More at link. So a Seattle resident who is a Seahawks fan says "NANNER NANNER BOO BOO RICHARD SHERMAN IS AWESOME" and suddenly it's a great read. Let's be clear - I have no problem with what Sherman does on the field. When the game's over, stop the trash talking bulls*** and talk about your team.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) Me either. Which is why I will teach them respect and humility. But I'm sick and tired of the athletes as role models line. Admire athletes for their physical gifts and skills, but not necessarily for who they are as a human being. The guy just won the game, was emotional and has a lingering hatred for Jim Harbaugh. Seeing an emotional, violent reaction come from an emotional man following a violent shouldn't be at all surprising. Compare Jameis Winston and Richard Sherman's reactions. Winston had a rather violent and emotional postgame speech as a redshirt freshman in college. Nobody (other than Dee Dee McCarron) had any sort of negative reaction to that speech.

Can't wait to watch nothing but the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies on ESPN during the Spring.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) A similar deal (but a much more reasonable one at the time because it happened in '06 when the pen was a mess) was the Mike MacDougal for Dan Cortes deal. Cortes was an interesting guy in our system (I believe he was used more as a reliever) who converted to a full-time starting role in the Royals system and became their best pitching prospect. Cortes was where some people here saw Holmberg a little while ago. I recall people being upset about losing Lumsden. Looking back at his numbers, I have no idea why.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) He's Richard Sherman, that's what he does. Similar to when he went off on Skip Bayless live on ESPN. So that makes it right.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) (Probably was unclear I meant Melky Cabrera, who was caught juicing). The reason I have to say that there's no reason to assume they were clean prior to 1999 is the topic of the thread, which specifically asks "how good would they have been without the juice". To ask that question assumes you saw them for a time when they were actually clean, which is an assumption we should have considerable doubt about. I personally don't doubt that Bonds was clean between the time he was drafted and 1999. The body type doesn't signal anything, and the research and types of PEDs was no where close to where it is currently. I also think the absolute significant boost you see between 1999 and 2000 compared to his 2001-04 is a pretty good indicator too. I think Bonds is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer without steroids, probably 500-600 homers, 500+ steals, great overall career and in consideration as a top 5 player of all time. But, even just using his "non-steroid" years with his obvious steroid years in San Fran, here are his splits: 93-00: .303/.439/.626/1.065 01-04: .349/.559/.809/1.368 There is such a clear and significant upswing that I find it impossible not to distinguish the difference. You're right, maybe he was using, but I'm assuming he was pretty clean given body type and size and the difference between the unknown and the known. Also, regarding Melky (not sure why I thought you meant Miguel), he's bigger in the Giants photos than the Yankees photos, but it's not distinguishable. Regarding him - and Braun, frankly - I have no idea when they started or what they'll be without. But, assuming Melky was clean this past year, his peripherals weren't that far off. His overall numbers sank, but some of that could simply be regression to the mean.
