  1. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Though I find it hard to believe any broadcaster can be as a big a homer as Hawk, the Twins haven't been good since I moved here so no one is their heated rival, so I haven't had a chance to see that. It's f***ing awful
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Alexei's walk rate is 5.0%, and while you can justify that because of his defensive value, you can't have a lineup full of guys who walk 5% of the time or your offense is going to really suck. And he has been one of the best defensive shortstops in the league during that time frame too. A run saved is just as good as a run scored.
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) I like that philosophy but when the Sox tried that it was the wrong people. After 2005 the DH has been a money pit. Becuase $8 mill a year was too much for Jim Thome, and the $1 mill or whatever they spent on Mark Kotsay was too much too? Dunn has cost too much. That's really it.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 09:24 AM) I just realized that we officially acquired Garcia. Thanks Astros for not being dicks! Rotoworld had indicated that he cleared waivers, though really you only have to clear the Astros. Still, when it's not a player who is necessarily going to change the tides of your franchise and there's a trade involved, I think there's a gentleman's agreement to some degree about to just let them pass through. At the end of the day, it comes down to sportsmanship.
  5. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) But don't you think his .530 OPS in the 41 games after the Sox acquired him kind of agrees with that idea? I think that soured a lot of people on Alex. He had a .667 OPS in his final 42 games with Toronto too. I think he was probably struggling at the plate, switched organizations for the first time in his career, and struggled to get acclimated, especially considering how upset Dye was over the idea of losing playing time to Rios. Anybody who really lets a 40 game sample size change their opinion of a player is a little short-sighted, don't you think?
  6. If Hahn really does believe the Sox can compete next year, moves like this would make it a possibility because you need to take risks like this and hope they pan out.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 06:39 AM) If the Sox are going to offer this guy anything, he better damn well walk more than our other two Cubans combined. Ramirez has been just fine.
  8. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 02:39 AM) Is there anything to know about Jacob Morris? Nothing more than a 22 year old in rookie ball I assume? The guy is just raking with a bunch of walks. What intrigued me was that he hit .160 for Arkansas last year. Guessing he's fast, as he was part of the 4x100 relay team. Was also on the football team.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) All hail St. Jiub Fast travel in Morrowind made exploring mandatory...which to be honest I liked more. Totally just realized why too while playing Oblivion DRUNK In Morrowind, unless you KNEW you absolutely had to come back to that cave, and you KNEW you could find it again, you'd explore it because it was a hell of a time going all that distance on foot for so many of those places. You could do Mark/Recalls, but frankly, that sucked too, because you'd end up screwing up and killing a Mark that you really needed. Levitation was so awesome.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) I'd really be intrigued to see an OF of De Aza, Garcia, Viciedo (left to right) next year. I'd like to see it this year first and foremost
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) Wasn't De Aza better in CF last year at least? And I think that a solid 1b would really upgrade this defense as well. Yes he was. He has seemingly grown more uncomfortable out there. It's sorta painful to watch at times. 1B could do a hell of a lot. I still think the biggest area of need is CF. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) What about Flowers vs. Phegley versus say, McCann (dreaming)? There's not a lot metrics can tell you, and there won't be enough data on Flowers or Phegley to really get an accurate portrayal anyways.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) I don't know, but Rios is owed $17m, and picking up the entire tab would still leave us with a small market payroll next year and would have gotten us a better prospect than Eduardo Escobar 2.0. I can't tell you was available, but it isn't unprecedented. Off the top of my head, the Mets paid Beltran's salary to send him to the Giants for Zack Wheeler. I think we can definitely agree that dealing with Brian Sabean should be a priority in the future. He's still a terrible GM, even if the Giants have won 2 World Series.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) still missing 492 #9) Create a Ponzi scheme where I take all of Kyle's money and nobody else's, thus winning

  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Me neither. I'm glad everyone is drinking the cool-aid now but with the way we're going, I fear the best case scenario is either a rebuilt team that maybe becomes competitive a long ways down the road, or some reincarnation of our recent strategy of retooling that accomplishes nothing more than the previous few teams have. I'm just not a fan of selling off these guys for nothing when we'll probably just resign similar players. This talk of Morales makes me ill. Morales will be short-term. I don't foresee the organization extending long-term offers to anybody during free agency this year. Sign him to a 2-3 year deal worth $10-11 mill a year and an option attached to the end, and it's a perfectly harmless deal. The only player he'd be "blocking" is Andy Wilkins.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) At the very least, I was seriously impressed when I looked at the numbers and found that Garcia had decently outhit Iglesias through the minors. Iglesias takes slightly more walks and has moderately fewer strikeouts, but Garcia has definitely put up much more extra base power and definitely has a more developed stolen base game. I was too. I am genuinely really happy with this return. You get a guy who legitimately has a chance to be a solid contributor for your franchise. There's not much more you can ask for.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Does it frustrate any of you guys who see other teams fans who think that Kenny Williams is still the GM? It may just be me... Nah, I don't mind. People think Theo Epstein is the Cubs' GM too. But, if it's a journalist, then it's a problem.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) yeah, that's about what I thought. You have to take this in context - he was a 20 year old who started his career at High-A going 14 for 40 with 2 triples, 2 doubles, and 7 walks. He got promoted to AA and proceeded to hit .285. Again, prior to the 2011 season. His true hit tool began to surface the following year when he put up a .554 OPS over the course of the full AAA season. I think he has a fascination with him, but I don't think that shows bias.

  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) What does Law say about Iglesias? No. 45: Shortstop Jose Iglesias: Law calls the 21-year-old Iglesias the best defensive shortstop prospect he has ever seen. “He's not the fastest or most athletic,” writes Law, “but he's the one most able to make plays and to take difficult plays and make them look routine.” More from Law, on Iglesas’ offensive potential: “Iglesias' swing is direct with good bat speed, and he has a little pop when he gets his arms extended, although in Fenway that probably will mean lots of doubles off the Monster but few home runs. He needs to avoid barring his lead arm, and so far he hasn't shown much patience although he has shown he can make a lot of contact. If he can draw 50 walks a year or hit .300 regularly, he's an All-Star, and if not, he's still an above-average regular because of the potential value of his defense.” http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/pos...p-100-prospects ***from 2011, BTW
  21. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) What does Keith Law say about this deal? Then we can all decide whether this was good for the team or not. keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 6m Utility infielder. "@Kaufmak: @keithlaw Leury Garcia?"
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) pathetic #8) Punch Kyle
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) The 3 run walk off home run in 2010 was pretty sweet. Thanks for that Alex. Beside that, I will probably forget you were on Sox in 10 years. It's fun to think about stuff like that. Like remember when Kenny Lofton was on the White Sox? And the Sox almost traded Jon Garland for Darin Erstad?
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) BP really liked this guy as a SS coming into this season. Said he has easy range a plus plus arm and is not short on premium tools. Said he lacks pop but scouts think he could hold his own enough to be an everyday SS. I count 3.5 tools - glove, arm, speed, and a little bit of bat. Career .260 hitter in the minors, and his approximate splits over his previous 624 minor league PAs is .280/.325/.400/.725. If he can flash leather and put up a .250/.300/.375 line at the majors, he is going to be a perfectly capable shortstop.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Sounds like you do. I could care less whether Texas kept Garcia until April of next year so long as he's in the White Sox system by Opening Day of next year.
