  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) NFL Cracking Down On Celebrations Again Obviously because football is too fun. "As first noted by Pro Football Talk, reports out of multiple camps have officials warning players that they intend to more strictly enforce the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties already on the books. That includes: sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk; spiking the ball; spinning the ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute; standing over an opponent (prolonged and with provocation); or dancing." Totally justifiable Totally f***ing stupid
  2. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) Love it. Was just having an argument with a Bill James Apostle who was convinced Avi will amount to nothing because he doesn't walk enough It's a legitimate concern because he could certainly end up with numbers very similar to Juan Encarnacion.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Braves have a 12.5 game division lead on August 5. Last team to have a bigger lead on this date???? If this is trivia, my guess is the same as it always is on this site - the 2005 White Sox.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) That's awesome. Called strike looked to be a ball, I'll absolutely give him that. But standing around in the batters box arguing and making motions for that long..you're f***ing yourself, and if he wanted, he could have tossed him right there. Then to step out AFTER all that, and he said/motioned to step back in, and he appeared to say something back to him and not move...easy strike call, zero issue with it. You can't see the rest, but if he still wasn't moving...well then you're done. I'll now wait for all the f***ING UMPIRES BUNCH OF PRICKS posts. Whatever. Oh no, I think it's awesome. There are times when umps are out of line, but the fact of the matter is blatant disrespect towards umpires is not something to be tolerated. I'm glad he was able to ring this douchebag up before ejecting him from the game.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Good job idiot... Keith Olbermann ‏@KeithOlbermann 4m No truth to rumors #Yankees are offering #WhiteSox pitcher Luis Quintana cash to dust Alex Rodriguez in 1st AB tonight... (I think) Which Luis Quintana? This one? Or This one? Or maybe this one? Gotta be the last one, right?
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) They have not been patient with Thompson? Sometimes Balta, players aren't going to cut it no matter how many AB's they get. The only patience they've really shown with Thompson was holding back at Kannapolis for the 2011 season after a shortened and terrible season the year before. They pushed him out of rookie league ball after he put up an OPS of .510 over 118 PAs, and gave him 4 months in A+ ball. They've held up on him this year because of struggles, but there's still talent there. Still, there's a lot of the reports and numbers I see on Thompson that make me think of Jordan Danks almost instantly.
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) I think he single-handedly destroyed our team from suckday one. All of this s*** we are dealing with now is because of Dunn being absolutely brutal in the heart of our order. 2011 and 2012 were lost because of Dunn. So 2011 had nothing to do with Rios putting up a .613 OPS and a manager who was already imagining himself in Miami the following year, and 2012 had nothing to do with the team collectively s***ting the bed down the stretch and failing to hold a 3 game lead with 14 games to play. It was all Adam Dunn's fault. This is the most logical explanation I've heard for their failures down the stretch yet. Now, have you considered the possibility that it was his presence in Chicago that also was the force behind Derrick Rose tearing his ACL? and the Bears choking down the stretch last year? I mean, really, if Adam Dunn weren't playing and under contract with the CHICAGO WHITE SOX, then the Bears and Bulls probably would do better and stay healthier too. Luckily, the bad baseball voodoo doesn't rub off on the hockey team, just the OTHER baseball team in town. At least we can thank Dunn for that, amirite?
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I know he's hit some dingers but one of my least favorite Sox players of all time. Please take him, Texas, please. I'd love to see Thome take some more hacks. He could replace Dunn for the rest of this season. We're not winning anything anyway. Really? Guys like Jamie Navarro and D'Angelo Jimenez top that list for me. Probably David Wells too. Dunn is, by all accounts, a great guy who works hard and is productive offensively, even if it is flawed production.
  9. I think moving forward, losing streaks should be treated like winning streaks with regards to game threads, and if the Sox lose, the previous thread starter has to start the next one. If this is already being done, then consider me an idiot.
  10. I really don't think the Yankees can either. I'm not entirely certain of how luxury tax problems work, but I'm guessing that, if the Yankees assuming Rios' contract, they will be stuck with his full luxury cap hit this year, even if they only pay 1/3 of his salary. Pretty sure $12.5 mill puts the Yankees over the luxury tax, so they can't afford him either. Even if that's not the case, it's still another $4+ mill at this point plus another $12.5 mill next year against the tax too. On top of that, I'm quite sure the Rangers could afford him if necessary. All that said, I think he will clear waivers, if he hasn't already.
  11. OOH OOOOOOOOOH I WANNA PLAY TOO QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Don't wanna start a new thread for this so seeing as this is somewhat relevant to this subject I'll post it here. By relevant I mean the 2013 offense in a nutshell has falied to be consistent up and down the lineup. I wanna have some fun with sample sizes.... Our hitters best months in a projected batting order... 1. De Aza- .296/.366/.444 2. Keppinger- .317/.388/.400 3. Rios .277/.352/.511 4. Dunn .274/.402/.589 5. Tank .303/.364/.517 6. Gilaspie .311/.368/.492 7. Beckham .303/.337/.447 8. Lexi .281/.316/.382 9. Phegley .219/.215/.406 How nice would it have been if these guys consistently put up those numbers? With this pitching staff that's a contending team for sure.
  12. Frankly, if the Dodgers picked up about half of the guaranteed amount - guaranteed $71 million from '14-'17 - I'd have no problem with Andre Ethier as a platoon player. Sign one more lefty killer for the bench and then Keppinger and said dude to can play every time there's a lefty and then the hot (or "least cold") bat out of Dunn, Ethier, and Gillaspie plays that day. I doubt they do that, and really, he's not worth it otherwise. Let him remain the Dodgers' problem.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) It wasn't entirely luck. Those 5 starters all had track records of being pretty durable. I don't disagree with that, but the success they all had and that team generally coming together and winning like they did was pretty lucky, all things considered.
  14. For how little the Sox paid him, Wise was an incredibly productive and valuable player during his White Sox career, both tenures. He was a good 4th outfielder and he should have always remained that, as he was never qualified to be a starting player. It was not his fault that he was thrust into that opportunity in 2009, and he was given unjust grief due to Ozzie Guillen. Without his production down the 2008 stretch run, the Sox don't secure a playoff birth. I still remember watching his grand slam on ESPN against the Tigers after Marcus Thames hit a grand slam to tie the game and that was such a relief, because the Sox were seemingly prone to blowing leads down the stretch in 2008. Thankfully, everything worked out. There sure was something crazy about that team and hitting grand slams, as they had 12 of them that season.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) He is calling 2005 luck with that comment. He takes any chance to belittle the Sox. 2005 was lucky. It doesn't change the fact that it was an incredible and magical year and that the Sox were an incredible team.
  16. It's a lot like trying new food for the first time, except you're getting laid.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 12:03 AM) You draft lovers have it made. You can still enjoy the rest of this pathetic season. A few of us are in misery on a nightly basis over the Sox results since we do not care about the draft. No Sox fan enjoys the Sox losing, but it's not a bad thing because this team needs an influx of elite talent more than any team in the league. What I would say is worse is that you are in misery considering this team gave up on the season more than a month ago. If you care so much about the game that you are actually in misery and getting stressed out or whatever on a regular basis about something that doesn't affect you personally, then maybe you need to take a step back and reconsider your priorities. And I'm not being condescending or patronizing here - baseball is a game and you shouldn't care so much about it. I understand intensity and cheering and hoping they do well, but they aren't going to win anything of significance this year, so don't beat yourself up when they lose because they're going to do it a lot more.
  18. Well f***ing work harder, dammit I kid, I you!
  19. Gillaspie is perfectly fine as a platoon partner at 3B. The problem is the .337 OPS against lefties in like 42 PA's. He's got a .750 OPS against righties.
  20. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) if this is what it takes to get rid of Adam Dunn, count me in. ADAM DUNN STRIKES OUT I DONT LIKE HIM

  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) It would be if Nike owned the Bears Ummmmm Nike does not own the University of Oregon!!! Oregon does!!!
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:19 AM) By "Infectious" you mean brought a disease into that 2007 team that crippled it, right? In Erstad's case, yes. I hated that move from the second it happened. I still have a PM I sent Kalapse right after it saying how much I hated the move and that it would be OK if he were used properly but that Ozzie would totally start him and he would be the ultimate suck.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:51 AM) I'd love to have this guy on the Sox. Never seen someone as pumped up after making plays. We need this energy - it's infectious. Good players are infectious. Darin Erstad certainly didn't help the Sox win, but he brought plenty of energy to the table
