QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 05:41 AM) I'm a big Urine fan. But I suspect his contract is up. FTW

Not that I want them to lose, but given the melancholy mood and complet: disregard to the fact that they actually play the games still, I figured I'd make a thread as if I were happy the White Sox lost, put an exclamation mark at the end, CAPITALIZE THE WHOLE F***ING THING, and celebrate another loss towards the #3 (erherm #6 pickaftertheinevitablelateseasonrun Ethern) pick in the draft! Gillaspie had a .769 OPS against righties coming into the game. Then he hit another homer. Oh, hey, there he is! Wite: "H-h-hey Conor" Conor: [ignores] Wite: (builds confidence, puffs chest out, gut gets in wayWHYSOFATWITE): hey conor Conor: [spits EXCELLENCE, checks self in imaginary mirror] Wite: [Knows this is the time, YELLS] Hey Mr Gillespie Conor: oh hey what's up fat man Wite: I would like to ask... Conor: You know it's spelled with an 'a' right? Wite: Sorry sir, but your success against right handed pit Conor: [flicks toothpick, doesn't give a f***, finds a b****, f***s her] Wite: Wonder if Ramon Troncoso is still here

GT 7/26: Yes, Peavy and Rios are still on the team

What is this thread, and what are we supposed to post in it? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) For all we know, the front office's thinking could be as simple as..."His hitting coach is Greg Walker...get him away from Greg Walker..." Ha! Honestly, I have no problem with it if it's for lesser players (Heyward won't be one of them during the season, BTW, because he is too valuable to that team at the moment), but I don't want to see a Jesus Montero, whose stock is down, be the centerpiece of a deal for Rios or Peavy. He can, however, be a #2 piece in such a deal.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) The more days go on, the less confident I feel. I don't think they move Peavy, Rios, or anyone. Then you'll be pleasantly surprised

QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Would Crain net the Sox a draft pick he they can't trade him and he walks in the off-season? If they make a qualifying offer (~$13-14 mill), and he signs elsewhere, then yes, they will. (no, they won't)
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) i like it, but would the Pirates have enough money to afford Stanton? With generational talents like that, you find room for them in your budget.
-
I think Pittsburgh will end up with Stanton when he is inevitably traded.
-
If they just trade for a fill in, a guy like Axelrod is going to make way, way more sense for them, and if they are going to do that, they may as well just trade for a veteran #4-5 with an expiring deal. With Axelrod, you are also paying for future service time, even if you have no intentions of keeping him long-term. Ted Lilly was just DFA'd and once he clears waivers, I'm sure Atlanta will consider him too.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) My alternative though is Ryan Sweeney, people kept saying the same thing about him, at age 21 in Charlotte he hit 13 HR's and 25 doubles (3 3b), but never developed a power game at the big league level and that turned him into a backup. He's also been injury prone. He was killing the ball for the Cubs, but then he got hurt again. He was also never a .340 hitter in the minors (or really, really good). His 2006 was phenomenal with everything taken into consideration, but 2007 he definitely fell off, and then he was traded. He's still been a pretty good hitter, especially against righties. If our best case scenario is David Wright and we expect him to turn into a Bill Mueller or Alex Rios type, and his floor is Ryan Sweeney, I'd be pretty happy so long as strong defense comes with it.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) I wouldn't say 6'2" 200 is too big for SS...Tulo is 6'4" 215. You would think someone who stole 51 bags would have a pretty good first step, speed, and thus good range... I just don't see how we can project him to be a 20-25 HR hitter when he's shown very little little power so far. I'm looking at his HS stats and even with an aluminum bat he didn't show of a lot of power. I saw an article about Cecchini saying he's breaking the mold of what a 3rd baseman is typically thought of due to his lack of power and his base stealing, and that's cool and all but I'm just afraid with Lexi and Beckhams disappearing power that we won't have enough pop to garner having a 3rd baseman who's "breaking the mold".....holy run on sentences batman. 38 doubles last year, 28 doubles already this year plus 7 homers. Alex Rios is a guy most would consider to have 20-25 homer power. From the ages of 18-21 and a span of 380 games below the AA level, Alex Rios hit 6 home runs. His first year in the majors, he hit 1. Power develops, and there are signs of it. A lot of times, guys who hit .340 in the minors with a lot of doubles have what it takes to develop power because they're a good hitter and know how to hit. Over time, they learn to actually hit for home runs. Cecchini would be a great get.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) This about the Cubs not the Sox. Theo came into a bad situation and has cleaned it up nothing more nothing less. Because Rick Hahn came into a perfect, beautiful situation and has done nothing but f*** it up since that point?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) Sarcasm? No, absolutely not. My post that I quoted, which I brought from another thread, fits this thread and your post perfectly. Bucket isn't going to have anything new that's going to blow your mind that he hasn't already said. Here, I can say this: "There is a deal that's close, but I can't go into specifics." And it's the same thing and it's true, and I haven't consulted anyone within any MLB organization. As I mentioned in the other post, this isn't a slight against bucket, and we are appreciative of any information provided by posters, but rather that this is a season of misinformation and we can hear about deals that are close that will never finish and never be reported by the media, and we won't hear anything about deals that will come together and be finalized in about 2 hours. Just relax.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) Jon Morosi just tweeted, "Mariners had high level scouts at Peavy Start yesterday and Brewers-Padres all week, the sort of thing a buyer would be expected to do." Now that's interesting. I really don't think this is a big deal. All kinds of teams are going to have all kinds of scouts in all kinds of places this week. If you saw a Royals scout at the Tigers-Sox game yesterday, what do you think that meant? Selling to the Tigers? Buying from the White Sox? Or scouting the Sox for the current 3 game trip? -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) It's been a few days since Bucket has updated us on what's going on, I wonder if any new information is out there that we don't know about. If anything is close. It's amazing how well this post fits here QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) The guess is going to be yes. Honestly, we need to stop pestering bucket for information. Be glad for the info that he does share with us, and let's leave it the luxury it is. He hears more than we do, but it's generally all speculation anyways. I say this with no means to offend bucket by any stretch of the imagination, and we are greatful of any info posters on the site can share with us behind the machinations of the White Sox organization. At the same time, it's still hearsay and most of the time, the deal falls through and nothing comes of it. This reminds me of my entrepreneurship class. You can think of 100 good business ideas. Of those, you may be able to make legitimate progress on 10 of them. Of those 10, you MIGHT get 1 to succeed. It's not a high probablity outcome. At this stage in the game, you really aren't going to hear anything until the talks get to the point where a deal is about to happen. I'm guessing bucket is a busy guy, so posting White Sox trade rumors on a message board likely isn't his top priority. Anything you hear is going to be reported by writers all over the country, and it's our job as fans to sift through the s*** to find the truth.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) Why not? They have about the same experience Ventura did when he got the job, which is none. Of course, it pretty much shows in Ventura's results. Woefully over his head. You believe that Ventura has failed as a manager, which is pretty obvious, so you say "why not" to hiring one of these guys, who are all relatively terrible candidates to manage the White Sox, because they had as much experience as the last guy. That logic is flawless.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) De Aza cannot be included in any plan based on keeping my defense up the middle. De Aza just cannot be included in any plan going forward in CF. He's perfectly fine in LF.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Have you ever heard Law say anything good about anything, or anybody, related to the Sox? Seriously. This one is simple and small, but there are several other examples. <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"> Here's what he said about recent Sox draft pick Tim Anderson: "Anderson is one of the few shortstop prospects in this draft who might remain a shortstop in pro ball, with a chance for several plus tools but less polish than you'd like to see in a possible first-rounder. He has a very quick but mostly flat swing, with virtually no load and just some late hip rotation, so he can slap the ball all over but isn't well set up to drive it in any direction. He drifts a little on to his front foot as well, although if he were more rotational that wouldn't be a major obstacle to hitting for at least more doubles power. He's a well above-average runner with quick feet out at shortstop but isn't certain to stay there, as his arm is a little weak for the left side of the infield, and he'll need help with footwork and quickening his transfer." http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...me/tim-anderson People constantly rag on him for "hating" Chris Sale and the Sox picking him at 13. Here's what he said about Sale: "If you like Chris Sale, you see a 6′6″ left-hander with an arm slot close to Randy Johnson’s, a plus fastball and change, and a potential front-line starter. If you’re a skeptic, you see a side-arming lefthander without an average breaking ball and a long arm action that will be tough to repeat 100-plus times an outing. I’m more in the latter camp than the former, and I think Sale’s pro future is reasonably likely to come in the bullpen. ... His arm action is ugly, long and complex in the back with a high elbow, and he drifts forward in a crouch more commonly seen on sidearmers and submariners. If I did draft him, I’d see if I could raise his slot just enough to get him better angle on the slider and get him to take advantage of his height. His current delivery, slot, and repertoire make him look a lot like a reliever to me.” http://bleacherreport.com/articles/430354-...mote-chris-sale That doesn't sound like a guy who doesn't like the talent (other than the average breaking ball comment, which was wrong...analysts have been wrong before), it sounds like he didn't think he'd make it as a starter. I really think people get bent out of shape over nothing about Keith Law. It's even funnier when they point out that it was due to the Sirotka trade (made in the 2000-01 offseason), because Law wasn't hired by the Blue Jays until 2002, which was an entirely new regime in Toronto. He continually called the White Sox one of the worst minor league systems in the league, but has he been proven wrong on that front? No, I don't think Keith Law is out to bash the White Sox, I think he calls it like he sees it. -
Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) What's your range? Only 40-50 feet, but I will continue to puke and rally so that I cover the vast majority of USCF. ---- Regarding the Peavy thing, this is merely my own personal speculation, but I don't think he wanted to send Peavy out. I think Peavy was feeling good and told Robin he wanted to go back out for one more quick inning. It was the bottom of the order, the Sox were up by a lot, Peavy's adrenaline is rushing, and if he cruises, he can get 8 innings and another standing O, this one bigger than the previous. Once he gave up the homer, Robin had to pull the plug. Again, merely speculation, but I think Robin does this kind of thing a lot with his players. Perhaps it's because it's a losing season, but he needs to stand by his convictions more and make his decision final. -

Are you guys serious? It doesn't matter if Law actually hates the Sox, he's an objective analyst. He's not going out of his way to bash the Sox. -
Ryan Swipe forced to retire due to post concussion symptoms. That is a 2nd or 3rd round, Welkerian talent that fell to the 6th for that exact reason. Too bad.
