  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) Here's a serious question: If I can talk Dan Szymborski into doing an MS Paint drawing for our banner, would you guys use it? For reference http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/oracle..._the_pod_people
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) Oh well. We agree to disagree. I respect the fact you love Rios as much as I despise him. My take on the trade deadline is a.) management told Hahn, 'You will not give money to teams to take ANY of our players. We will not pay our players to play somewhere else,' so that IMO probably 'hindered' Hahn a bit. b.) my opinion is the Peavy trade was a good trade, pretty fair return for Peavy. I feel Hahn in his first go-round is fully invested in the White Sox and didn't want to simply dump players having s***ty years for a horrific return. Mite set a bad precedent. For example, dumping a viable shortstop in Lexi for 2-3 nobody prospects would not be smart. I am thinking Hahn didn't want it known he's an 'easy mark' as a GM and he's not going to make trades that he feels are lopsided for the other team in any way. I am thinking he could have dumped Rios to the Yankees or Pirates or somebody had he paid half or more of the salary (probably more) and received some lousy prospect(s) - 2-3 warm bodies might be a way to put it - in return. But he's putting his foot down for the long haul showing he's not a GM who just throws players out the door. He wants something good in return even if the said players are sucking balls this season. Think about it, he could have traded several disappointing players. He didn't. My guess is because he was handicapped in not being able to send any money to those teams and the fact he was offered NON-prospects, not viable prospects, in return. Hahn is no easy mark for other GMs, even when it is debatable how good our trade chips are (were).
  3. Since this has become the deadline catch-all, the biggest loss amongst the whole deadline is not getting anything for Lindstrom. Even an organizational player is worth more than his production the rest of the way
  4. Just so we can drive people crazy Jon Heyman@JonHeymanCBSthere was a 3-way trade that didnt quite make it at the end. so no more deals from what i hear. #3way
  5. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) Legends banner: Thomas HOF 2014, Luis, Nellie, Fisk, Harold, Luke, Ted, Joe Crede........ Bring the pride back!!! Yeah, Joe Crede belongs nowhere near that group I do like the idea of a legends banner, but preferably with slap hitting Latino bench players. Timo, Pablo, and Paco are the first 3 on the list.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 2m All quiet on #whitesox front with 30 minutes to deadline. Following Twitter is silly right now. I mean, if I am a GM or executive or lowly bug on a wall in one of these rooms, the first thing I am going to do is respond to text messages from nosy reporters.
  7. WHAT THE f*** HAPPENED TO THE DELTA I USED TO KNOW?
  8. And when was the comment made? Last night when he addressed the Peavy deal? This morning at 8 AM? 10 minutes ago? Wait until 3:30 and we can figure out what moves were made.
  9. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) They say Garcia profiles as a .280 20HR 80RBI Right fielder. Yep, if everything works out, that's about right.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) he also doesn't need to worry about screwing Boston as a part of a deal. Hahn got what he wanted, and that is fine. If you are worried about a team giving up more value than they receive, it's Detroit you worry about. I'd say the Sox did fine in that regard.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Baseball America made the perfect comparison for Iglesias - Rey Ordonez. Rey was a f***ing amazing fielder, but just an abysmal hitter with no silver lining at the plate. While he has some of the best UZR numbers I've ever seen, he only exceeded 1.1 WAR once in his career. I just made that comparison too. Also Cesar Izturis. Jose Iglesias is not a good offensive player, and he is not going to hit .330 all year. He's not going to hit .300. He's probably not going to hit .270. If he's above .250 by the end of the year, Detroit will be lucky.
  12. The logical thing would also be to include screenshots from the entrance video as well.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) What would the Royals want with Rios? Do they think they are contending next year? They are 7 games out of the Central and 5 out of the second Wild Card spot. They are very much still alive.
  14. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) I agree with this. We certainly aren't going to get too much for Rios and will have to throw in some money, but I definitely think he gets moved after the acquisition of Garcia yesterday. Lindstrom will get traded for whatever we can get, which won't be much. Only way Alexei gets moved is if we throw in some serious cash and I don't see that happening. I think the only team that would acquire Ramirez is St. Louis. I won't rule out Pittsburgh, but St. Louis is the logical choice, and as I said in the Peavy trade thread, I think they will pit LAA against the Sox trying to get the best deal possible between Aybar and Ramirez.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) I'm still trying to figure out what this bucket character has provided that make people think he has a clue as to what is going on this past month. I have been suggesting this for a while. Bucket has solid info, but sources get jumbled and changed in a heartbeat, especially at this time of year. Believing anything anybody says until something is actually going down is silly.
  16. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) it seems as if both bucket and rock think Rios will be moved today.. so ill hold out hope Well I think he is going to be moved too. And Lindstrom. But not Alexei.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) Does the comparison really have to be 'Miguel Cabrera' or bust? We aren't going to turn Jake Peavy into the best hitter in the game without an incredible amount of luck. If he turns into a borderline all-star I'll be thrilled. It will mean we finally have a starter we don't need to replace, because honestly, I don't look at any of our position players right now and say 'don't need an upgrade there!' No, of course not. I think a more natural comparison would be to someone like Alex Rios, but I think Garcia shows a little more passion for the game. The Miguel Cabrera thing comes out because of the analysts who made the comparison the second he was brought up.
  18. FINAL SUGGESTION (for now): Andre Rienzo photoshopped onto Brazilian model's body with phrase: "Soxtalk: O Mentiroso"
  19. I think Rios and Alexei are moved today or maybe Rios is moved, but Alexei is not or maybe Alexei is moved, but Rios is not PHEW, all bases are covered
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Miggy lost his buddy. Check out his reaction to Avisail's first career HR. Obviously, this will lead to Miguel Cabrera demanding a trade to the White Sox where Miguel and Avisail can pal around like Elvis and Adrian
  21. obligatory bump because people freak out for no reason
  22. Can we do a banner with popcorn and race cars in it? Not that it's necessarily relevant, I just think popcorn and race cars are cool
  23. To cross over sports here, I think comparing Avisail Garcia to Miguel Cabrera is like comparing Glen Davis to Shaquille O'Neal. There are some similarities, but really, they are incredibly different players who do some similar things on the field/court because they play the same sport and have similar body styles
  24. If they pick up even $6 mill, I don't see any reason they can't make this work with someone.
  25. Would look better with Blake Tekotte and Angel Sanchez
