  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) Was hoping Hahn could do a little better in his first big deal as a GM. The Sox pick up another "toolsy" OF to go with the masses they have been stockpiling. This one appears to actually have a shot at the majors since he has had a little success, but the jury is still out. The biggest holes in the system are at the IF corners, and this deal does nothing to address that. Instead of chasing down a ML ready bat, he should have taken a few players that were further away. We will need to see what he is able to do with his other chips, as Garcia seems like he could be ready to step in if Hahn is able to deal Rios. The other pieces the Sox picked up look like bullpen guys and a UT infielder. The other problem is that it made two teams that you are trying to catch better. The Tigers have their SS of the foreseeable future with Iglesias who is cost controlled and elite defensively. Hitting .330 this season shows he can hit at least enough to stay in the lineup. We will see what else Hahn is able to do, but in a vacuum, I feel he should have done better. Iglesias is s***. He was hitting .202 in the minors prior to being called up and going on a BABIP binge. His career minor league OPS is .622. At his best, he's going to be Rey Ordonez or Cesar Izturis
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) People were comparing him to MCab the moment he came up. The odds of him ever reaching that level are obviously quite low, but I think I heard that comparison in his first game. Miguel Cabrera - 20 - AA - .365/.429/.609/1.038, 10.2% BB%, 16.2% K% in 303 PAs Avisail Garcia - 21 - A+/AA - .299/.333/.455/.789, 3.5% BB%, 18.5% K% in 513 PAs Even you can see how ridiculous that comparison is. The reason people compared them is because they look a hell of a lot alike. Both are 6'4'' and listed at 240 (Cabrera is a bit bigger than that now), both are Venezuelan, and both played for the Tigers. Their numbers are nothing alike. I'm hopeful he'll prove me wrong, but I have very, very strong doubts.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) I do not see the Yankees taking on Rios' salary Jesus, that is just a surreal statement. Very likely to be true too
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:27 AM) I'm debating whether to just give up on replying to those posts. No debate from me
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Why would Texas want Konerko? Paulie is awful. I'd make the deal just to see Andy Wilkins the rest of the year. It's up to Konerko because of 10/5 rights. If he wants to, you send him over as a courtesy and eat the rest of this year's salary. He's been one of the best players in White Sox history. Oh, and .317/.403/.524/.927 against lefties this year, .299/.377/.538/.915 in his career. He's Eric Karros at this point, but he's a valuable player against left handers. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) Cue Wite and his throbbing Konerko boner in 3 . 2 . 1 . . . Should have started counting a little higher
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:16 PM) With Yadier Molina likely going on the DL, maybe the Cards go after Alexei again to boost their offense? Pure guess on my part, but I think they add a shortstop and pit the Sox and Angels against each other
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) The Sox collect free-swinging, toolsy outfielders like 9 year old me collected pogs and 26 year me collects hobo's toenails. You do too?
  8. I do not like Avisail Garcia. Just want to say that. He can prove me wrong, but everything about him seems like classic value driving. Never put up good numbers in the minors over an extended period of time.
  9. If this is what it's come down to, I'll give $25 to help expedite the trade
  10. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Like Brian Roberts Do the Orioles still have BJ Surhoff? You know the Sox are infatuated with former #1 overall picks
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Manuel Arturo, formerly of the Orioles. Oh man, the Sox are getting Melvin Mora! He is SOO OLD THOUGH, why dont they get someone younger
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) If that's true then the Tigers were very very smart. Addition by subtraction scaring us into taking Alex Rios. Did you know? Alex Rios is the person who puts cats into trees and he is the reason for poor weather on long road trips.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) Brittany Ghiroli ‏@Britt_Ghiroli 17m Machado is walking off the field after being hit in bp. Going to get examined by trainers. Just so you know "being hit in bp" is an industry term for "traded for Jake Peavy" and "Going to get examined by trainers" is code for "packing up his s*** and getting on a plane." This one looks legit. Which Machado are they talking about?
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) Just drop him off and head back home. You don't need to be there, he's a big kid now! This is when a good father stares at his phone the entire time and completely ignores anything the teacher says
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Rios would veto a trade to the Yankees. I don't think so.
  16. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Will anyone be surprised if Peavy ends up with with a team that hasn't been mentioned? What comedy that would be. The Jaguars have reportedly been interested in using him at QB
  17. My source disputes what Kalapse has said, says the Sox are committed to rebuilding around Peavy. Also says they will still listen to offers on him.
  18. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) Wite does you signature make it to August? I still like the quote, but I'll probably have to update it. Oh, and if you're asking for a prediction, then no, it doesn't
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) Most users ever online was 727 on Jul 17, 2007 -> 05:25 AM We're not even close. What happened on that seemingly incredibly boring day? Probably Google bots flooding the website. Look at what time it was.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) I own the trademark on this word. $17,000 for each unauthorized use will be sought through litigation. You are officially put on notice. You have been around a really long time then http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=poop
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) That makes too much sense. Why can't the Sox in the past ever pull off deals like that? They have no risk in this scenario. Get Peavy for almost free this year, dump him in the offseason to a big-money team. Pretty brilliant. #1) The Sox deal for guys they want to keep. #2) The A's would not get as much for Peavy in the offseason, they'd merely look to recoup some of their losses. They tried this with Matt Holliday and it completely blew up in their faces. #3) The White Sox essentially acquired Jake Peavy for nothing, so they DO make trades like this. I mean, seriously, the only piece the Padres still have is Clayton Richard. They saved money and took on 3 other mediocre prospects and none of them panned out.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I took a poop today I did too. Soft and chunky
  23. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I think it had more to do with Brantley (lefty) pinch hitting, Bourn (lefty) on deck, Swisher in the hole (switch), Kipnis (lefty) after that and Cabrera (switch) after that. LOL
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Jake Peavy did stretches today. what, no way
  25. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) Am I missing something? I expected much more speculation in this thread. Do we know why he's not pitching? Because he might get traded at any point in the next 25 hours
