  1. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) The NFL sure didn't do the Cowboys any favors with this schedule. These last four games will pry be Phillips' last as coach. IMO, I think he will have to at least win a playoff game in order to keep his job. That's going to be a tough task for him considering he's never won a playoff game in his coaching career.
  2. a few hundred thousand could also mean up into the $900k range. There just isn't a huge need for a great long reliever when the rotation is Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Garcia/Hudson. There was last year, especially with Contreras and Colon bombing along Floyd missing a few starts towards the end of the season. If it means Santos on the roster as a long relief guy in what might inevitably turn out to be him getting bombed because he's as raw as he is but eating innings in games that are already long over, then so be it.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) You gladly surrender a mid-2nd round pick for Matt Holliday, this isn't Scott Linebrink or Orlando Cabrera we're talking about you're actually acquiring an elite talent, the major sticking point is that he's gonna want $20M+ per year over 6 years - something that's not really in the cards for the Sox at this point. And, while Holliday is good, most of his numbers have really come from getting fat off of NL pitching and playing in a great hitter's park.
  4. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) I love it too. To paraphrase: An inability to be versatile is an attribute. It actually makes a bit of sense because versatility can be a bad thing if said player's defense is that bad
  5. I'm more impressed that f***s isn't censored in the title
  6. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I only bring him up cuz he could replace Linebrink, if we found someone to take him Why wouldn't said team sign Capps rather than acquiring Linebrink?
  7. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) Cocky my friend, remember you are the laughing stock of the big 12. He's not a Baylor fan
  8. Freddy Garcia (and then in turn, Gavin Floyd), Ramon Castro, and Mark Kotsay for 3 guys who have completely bombed.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) I can see where a wuss would think that. True though. Obviously I only felt them doing it to my back. No walk in the park. But what if walking in the park is hard and painful with no other health problems other than laziness?!
  10. dude, Pearl Jam "Ten" is f***ing amazing, espcially if you get the whole mini-opera (Alive->Once->Footsteps) involved.
  11. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Wolf hasn't been fully healthy for a while. When he was, he was very good. And he was much better away from Dodger Stadium. I like Randy Wolf. He's not Jeff Suppan. He actually got better away from Petco in 08. And its not like the Astros had a good infield defense, and Minute Maide is still a great hitters park. I like it in the short term. Come year 2, the Brewers are going to regret it, even if Wolf remains effective, and come year 3, s*** will probably hit the fan.
  12. QUOTE (Cubano @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) If the Royals sign Chapman, I switching my alliance from the Sox to the Royals. Betancourt, Arguelles, Chapman... Ha, ha, ha http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=nyy Except that Betancourt sucks, Ramirez is good, and both Contreras and Hernandez won a World Series with the Sox. So there.
  13. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) so your fine with say beckham as our leadoff hitter? I've been fine with that for a while.
  14. QUOTE (whitesox91403 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) Not doubting you but I could have swore they took him in The Rule V, he stayed on the 40 man and spent some time in the minors before coming up? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Grilli I remember him pitching against Cle and giving up 5 runs in the 1st inning and then being pretty dominant after that. The Sox did select him in the Rule V draft. They didn't keep him on the 25-man all year. That's all that was stated.
  15. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 02:14 AM) So Madden is a great drinking game because if your better, ou drink more, so the gap closes by the end of the game. what rules are you playing?
  16. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 02:58 AM) I like the signing, although I wonder how cash-strapped KW is going to be now when it comes to addressing the team's hitting needs. A random question to all: How much better do you think 2010 JJ Putz will be than 2010 Octavio Dotel (wherever he ends up)? Dotel is almost guaranteed to sign for more.
  17. Everything I see from reports suggests Carrasco being gone, but it still doesn't make sense to me. Sure Hudson could do the job, but then you are eating up an entire arbitration year of a guy who could easily be the 5th starter of a still stellar rotation in 2011, and losing a rather vital cog of a bullpen because of $2 mill. I actually think a lot of this is due to Matsui, personally. And we won't know his whereabouts until January. My final guess is that Carlos Torres plays the role of Carrasco next year with actual potential to move to middle relief and set up (which Carrasco does not have), Williams is trying to trade him right now for really anything he can get, and that Hudson remains in the minors.
  18. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) How many of us thought the exact same thing when the Sox picked up AJ? He carried a terrible reputation, he got into fights with teammates. 99% of Sox fans despised him. How many still wish he wasn't a part of the team? White Sox fans hated him because he was a f***ing prick when he was with the Twins. The only clubhouse issues there ever were with AJ revolved around Brett Tomko and his posse. How has Brett Tomko's career been anyways? If anything, I'd compare Tomko to Bradley, especially considering he's been with as many organizations as he's been with in the past 5-10 years...except that I'd be wrong. Tomko switches teams because he f***ing blows, and AJP hasn't switched teams since 2005 because he's a f***ing stud.
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) So, what part of my reference to the Sox signing Teahen to a 3 year contract was incorrect? The fact that you assumed it was 3 years of him beyond his free agency years. If you, absolutely, in your heart, knew that, then I forgive you. I tend to doubt it.
  20. Here are the incentive clauses in Scott Linebrink's contract, according to Cot's Baseball Contracts... MVP? All Star starter? Even further, Matt Guerrier was never, ever, ever, ever considered the Twins closer last year, and still "finished" 15 games. Putz's agent is looking for the most money he can get, and if Putz even becomes a setup man, it's likely he's going to "finish" quite a few games. The finished games clause has absolutely nothing to do with Jenks. If anything, it's probably $10K per game that he finishes up until 30 games finished.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) You wouldn't take those numbers from a leadoff hitter at this point? I know I certainly would. A move like this would make a lot of sense to me. I would love those numbers, but he'd have to prove it first. Hence why I wouldn't want him thrust into the role.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Seriously fathom and squert what's the problem with Joe? He gives us stuff to read and discuss all year round. I gots no problem with him. Plus it's free information. Not like we gots to pay for it. Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah (sp) to all! I love the holidays. I think someone found some eggnog
  23. Rivera said shortly after the World Series that he'd be fine pitching for another 5 years
  24. QUOTE (whitesox91403 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Jason Grilli, 2004 He wasn't kept on the 25-man all year though and was actually acquired by the Sox during Spring.
