  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Sandy Alderson says he expects Jake Peavy to be on the opening day roster. Or, in other words, he'll be traded at high value in July to a team with actual prospects (ie not the Cubs). What a freaking surprise, who could have seen that one coming? You can't trade trash and get gold too often. ...unless you are trading with the Pirates
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/christ...-twins-on-hold/ Boras is frickin nuts if he thinks he is getting Crede a better base salary then he did last year plus incentives /fix'd
  3. One of the dumbest hitters I've ever seen in my life, but when he had to fight for his job or bring in a run, he was there to do the job well. Good luck to Baby Berroa.
  4. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) KW has been known to make a splash right before Soxfest, perhaps a coincidence, but I just don't see anything shaking down this year...at least right now What other splashes has Williams made this close to Soxfest other than bringing in Kenny Lofton? I'm talking like January 25th to February 15th, the time pitchers and catchers report, because I simply don't recall any moves he's made this late in the offseason. Given, he's never had the quality free agents this late in the offseason either, but that's beside the point.
  5. JVB seems more like the type of guy who is AAA fodder at this point in time. His shoulders, both of them, have been so torn up that there's virtually no chance he can become much of anything at this point. Nix seems like AAA fodder too but I'd give him a chance at the very least of claiming a spot with the Sox. That being said, you can't forget guys like Thome, Contreras, Dye, Linebrink, and Dotel too. A lot of those guys were either written off for dead or considered to be over the hill, and they've been huge contributors to the Sox. In the case of Linebrink and Dotel, a lot of it had to do with money too.
  6. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cu...T-cub29.article Yep, this is a pre-cursor to a Peavy trade. Right. This trade makes it almost impossible that Peavy goes to the Cubs.
  7. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) yes, im not denying that. he was really clutch that year. i simply stated that crede has yet to have one full, good, consistent year. the stats back that up.im not trying to knock him, its just that some ppl here cant move on and act like he was god or something. besides defensively, fields can easily out perform crede offensively. is his defense great? no. but hes not a butcher either.get over crede!!!// oh, and i never said i didnt think he was a productive ballplayer. sure he was, just not to the point where some ppl think. To be fair, most stars of the game don't have full, good, consistent (with consistent being the key word) seasons. Besides that, his 2006 was pretty damn good. Seasons where guys put up .283/.323/.506/.828 seasons with 30 doubles and 30 homers are pretty good seasons, and he was pretty damn good for the first 5 months with 1 terrible month. If that's not a full, good, consistent season, it's about as close as a player can get without actually doing it. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) By 2010, I can see Fields at 1B, Paulie DH, Viciedo 3B. With body size included, I imagine Viciedo will end up at 1B before Fields. Besides that, unless Fields develops into a .250/.350/.500 type player, I'm not sure he'll ever have the bat for 1B. Also, it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see Dye's option picked up, especially if he remains a productive player. It's doubtful, simply because the Sox may want to free up as much money as they can, but it's not completely out of the picture either.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) And Frankly, our pitching was superior to each team we faced. The Red Sox had Clement and Fatty McFatFat starting for them even. games 1 and 2. It's one thing if those guys start and the series goes 4 games. Those two were their most ready starters at the time.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) I must say, I'd watch that spinoff. The new characters actually don't suck. I honestly really don't like Ed. He may play the cool guy in the series, but he just comes off as a total douche to me.
  10. I must have missed it, and If it was the end of last season, I understand it, but I just haven't seen any references to it so far this season. Figured I'd use the spoiler tag in case anyone reads it and hasn't seen it.
  11. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) Why would that be so bad? That's a pretty good OPS for an unproven player, and it's better than the 3B production the Sox got last year. It's actually quite similar to what the Sox got at 3B last season - Sox 3Bman put up a .763 OPS last season. Take out 109 K's and it's quite possible that Sox 3Bman had a more productive season, including productive outs.
  12. I hate to say it, because it's overly used, but the playoffs really are a crapshoot. Any number of teams can win it at any given time. The 2005 White Sox depended heavily upon power and pitching throughout the postseason. The one exception I can think of during all 11 wins was game 4 of the Series. I know they got another run in game 3 of the ALDS with the late inning on, over, and in method, but in hindsight, that run meant nothing. The only factor that comes up 95% (or more) of the time is great pitching. Without great pitching throughout the postseason, you won't win. You can run into a fastball or hanging breaking ball here and there, and you can get runners on and over, but without great pitching, you won't win. In 2006, the A's had great pitching against the Twins, and against the Tigers that pitching disappeared pretty quickly. The White Sox allowed 34 runs in 12 games in the 2005 postseason; simple math says that's less than 3 runs a game. Ozzie-ball didn't win, what won games for the Sox in the postseason was the 3-run homer, because a 3-run homer won almost every single game.
  13. QUOTE (R.J. @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Yuck Aside from the strikeouts, it's a more than acceptable season from a #7 hitter. It also adds a bit of athleticism to the lineup too, which is nice whenever Fields is actually on base.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) The "9 Innings From Ground Zero" special on HBO about this World Series is fantastic. They showed it on MLB network too. I was a bit drunk, but I teared up quite a few times throughout it.
  15. So over/under on homers hit by Garland is set at 2.5. I'm gonna take the over.
  16. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) There were a few others IIRC, Donnie Veal and another pitcher I think and Veal's gone too, which is hilarious. It seems that Hendry is becoming incompetent, and he's selling garbage for garbage at this point. It would be so worth it if the Cubs inability to win a World Series continued for atleast another 20 years, especially if they lost in the Series a time or two.
  17. I'm actually really excited to see what Fields can do over a full season. I see something similar to Mark Reynolds' 2008, but it wouldn't be surprising if he performed a little better than that either. And having another lefty killer in the lineup doesn't hurt matters either.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) For those of you staying in...what are you guys planning? I was thinking of trying some homemade wings. Obviously Chili is popular, and taco dip. Any good recipes? I had some cranberry salsa that was fantastic that I'll try to dig up a recipe for I'm going to make a Buffalo Chicken Dip. First, boil chicken breasts (season if you want to with salt and pepper though it doesn't pick up much flavor in the water). While that's boiling, combine 1 part chunky bleu cheese dressing, 1 part cream cheese, and 1 part heavy whipping cream in a sautee pan and mix them together...that should take about 3 minutes. The chicken should be about done by that time...drain it, and from there, shred the chicken and mix in a sizeable amount of Frank's Red Hot (or whatever other buffalo or hot sauce you want to use). Portion that into a porcelain dish of whatever type, and cover all the chicken with the bleu cheese mix. Bake in a 350 degree oven until the bleu cheese spread on top browns, and then cover with shredded cheddar jack cheese. Let that melt and bring out of the oven to cool for like a second. Eat it with chips - I like Doritos but just regular tortilla chips works too. It's so f***ing badassedly good. And if you have fears about the bleu cheese, you can't even taste it, it's just so delicious.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Exactly. The more often guys are in scoring position for those 3, the more runs the White Sox are going to score, especially if they can run a little bit. which is when OBP can be overrated and SLG% can be underrated. If Jerry Owens could slug even .350 while getting on at a .330 clip, he'd be atleast adequate in the lineup. The problem from there lies in the fact that he plays mediocre to bad defense in CF and his arm is atrocious.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 25, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Which downtown are you speaking of? one of the 6 bars in town to watch the fights.
  21. I am the most hungover of all. I think it's actually kind of annoying when people talk about being hungover, but it makes the person feel so much better and the hangover less intense. Anyways, 2 beers and 2 Jag bombs before going downtown, 3 beers to go along with 3 pitchers between 3 guys, a little less than half a liter of Jag, and mass vomiting later in the night. Ouch.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) List updated. Send me a cookie.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Tigers have nowhere to go but up from last season. They're my pick to win the division. with that amazing pitching staff
