Donny Lucy carted off the field during 5/1 game

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 7, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) Whenever this happens to someone they will cart him off in preparation for healing regardless if it pooped back to position or not so I wouldn't read too much into that. not gonna read too much into that comment... -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) A blog is nothing more than personal garbage with no basis in truth or anything more than one's opinion or aplace to start a rumor. I don't see any reaper knocking on the door other than Russell went back down and Ramirez reinstated. We all knew that was planned anyway. Buzz Bissinger?

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) lol, sitting on the bench in my fantasy league oh mine too 3 homers, 4 RBI, 3 runs, and a stolen base...yeah he pretty much was a fantasy monster today and is on probably 75% or more of team's benches He'll be off a lot of those come tomorrow

I don't think the question here really is whether Gavin can be successful with a poor K rate. It's just that teams will eventually start getting hits off of him and that, in turn, will lead to potentially disastrous outings. Seeing him pitch last night, I'd imagine his K rate will begin to improve...some of those pitches were absolutely filthy, especially later in the game. And even though his fastball was 89-92, it had some nice movement on it down and in towards righties. Complimenting that his solid change piece and a filthy curve ball and I think Gavin has #2 potential but more likelihood of being a solid 3-4 starter in the future. And that is why he is my fav.

I would just like to give Pratt a little s*** and say that I did feel sorry for the Twins yesterday because Gavin Floyd was absolutely filthy. Halladay part deux.

This is the same Scott Podsednik that most of Soxtalk wanted to give a blindfold and a cigarette to, right? There haven't been, like, any new Scott Podsednik's created and put into the world of professional baseball, right? Just checking ahead of time -
QUOTE (scenario @ May 4, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) Exactly. How do we lose in that scenario? And who knows... maybe with his speed and ability to get on base he provides us with a spark that this team badly needs right now. I'd be very open to the idea. Send Russell down, send Alexei to AAA to get regular playing time either at SS, CF, 2B, or wherever, and give Getz a chance to win the job. If he's performing well when Richar gets healthy, the Sox are in a very good position and could even think about cutting Uribe loose at that point in time.

QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ May 4, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) yaaaaaaaa we like stikeouts and double plays all the THOME lovers are going to be mad in the the off season because "HE GONE" I actually love left handed hitters that hit 35 homers a year and put up OPS's near .975. Slumps happen, but I'd bet money Thome has great year end stats. I've also seen disputes as to how long the Phillies spread the money out they gave the Sox, but if it's over 4 years - meaning $5.5 mill next year too - Thome will assuredly be back next season. I really don't understand any ill-will towards Thome at all. I understand the "clutch" argument, though I don't believe that should be nearly as big of a factor as some believe it to be, but all he's ever done as a member of the White Sox is hit the s*** out of the ball. Why is there any complaining at all?

QUOTE (Felix @ May 4, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) This weekend was special. One of our friends downstairs had 2 kegs (one was only a third full) they needed to get rid of by 6 PM on Saturday. We did a lot of work on Thursday night, finished off the already tapped one and made a dent in the other. Then yesterday at about 3:30, they came up to our apartment, pounded on the door and said they needed beer drinkers. They still had half a keg left and the two were due back at 6. Needless to say, we did our part and finished it off. Best part: it was all free Why does this never happen to me? I'd probably turn it down, ala Dumb and Dumber, just oblivious to the fact that they wanted me to drink. "We need some beer drinkers. You guys know of any?" "Do I?! You know it! (pause) They'll be right down the hallway in room 302." "WAIT! They're actually down the other way in room 307." "Man, a couple of guys get to drink free keg beer all night. When are we gonna catch our break like that Harry?"

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 4, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Actually, in all seriousness, Getz probably needs to prove that he can hit triple a pitching (he had never played at that high of a level until this year) before you can give him a shot. I expect him to have a good year this year down there and then be given a look for the big league roster at spring training 2009. That doesn't help us now though. Well what's the harm in bringing him up now? He's not a stud prospect by any stretch of the imagination and if he can come up and hit something like .275/.340/.340 he'd be more of an asset to the team than Uribe or Ozuna at 2B. I don't know much about his defense, but even if it's poor, you can have Uribe be a late inning sub in almost every game.
-
As a short-term attempt, you may as well. Even a .675 OPS would be beautiful out of 2B at the moment. It's also why I've said several times that if Jerry Owens were right handed, he'd be the starting 2Bman right now.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Teh Offence has indeed sucked for a week or two now. And we're no longer in first. But its still way early, the Sox are a half game out, and the pitching has been nothing short of stellar so far this year. I agree absolutely...I just hate when people jump to conclusions in May.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ May 4, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) I meant switch positions. Getz can play 2B (his main position), SS, 3B, or CF. Not sure which of those he would be moved to when Richar starts playing. Fields is at 3B. Owens is in CF. Mike Rouse is currently at SS. I don't see them taking Getz' bat out of the lineup and sitting him. But I'm not sure they're going to sit one of the other guys either. I think the best option may be to send Getz to Chicago. Rouse can suck a dong...28 year old infielders who hit .250 at AAA can do their work from the bench.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) Actually Oz makes a good point about them being veterans and needing to wake up. Mariotti now has his ammo though to get Oz fired. He can write that he called out the veterans saying they need to get their head out of their ass and how can they possibly respect Ozzie again, blah blah. Oz has a big mouth, blah blah. Oz's quote was pretty cool, I thought. He called out the lumbering, but now slumbering veteran bats. Does it matter what kind of ammo Mariotti has to fire at the Sox? No one within the organization respects him anyways.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Quick trivia....which relief pitcher has a .33 WHIP in 12 innings this season? After looking it up, which one is the right answer?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 4, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) He's no Ryan Dempster. fathom. I don't believe that's necessary, even if I do believe fathom is overstating how good Ryan Dempster is. That said, I'd be more surprised at this point in time if Brandon Webb didn't win 20 games than if he did.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 3, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) I like how everyone is jumping ship now. We're still getting solid pitching. It's May 3rd. BUT TEH OFFENCE!1!!1!!!1!!!!!

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 3, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) But it is his job title as hitting coach to take all the blame (or glory) I'm very glad you bring this up, because Don Cooper has lived off of his reputation for the 2005 season. Not saying he's not a good pitching coach, but there are quite a few better than him. He seems middle of the pack to me.
-
QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 3, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) How much impact does a hitting coach really have on a team? A firing would be more of a superficial move if anything. Initially, but hitting coaches have to be able to help these players adjust to what they are up against, or so you'd have to imagine. I mean, it's been almost 2 years now, and the Sox offense is still stagnant. A lineup as talented as the Sox is now doesn't just suck this badly and have this many vets perform below their career averages for as long as they have. I agree that the firing of Greg Walker should take place, but you also need to instill someone who will help these guys through such tough times. The Sox peaks and valleys may be more severe than any other team in the majors (or so it seems to us, anyways).

Mike Scoscia is also the best manager in the majors...regardless of who their GM is or what team he puts on the field, Scoscia takes it and makes it work every year.
