  1. I'd really just like to thank my two hands, for they are the reasons I could do this at all. Secondly, I'd like to thank Anheuser-Busch for making a cheap beer with no flavor that I got drunk off of probably 30 times within the past year, and to a lesser extent, the Coors family for making Keystone Light (though less-so, because Keystone gives me the runs). I'd like to thank the Lord, because without Him, we wouldn't be able to talk about why Josh Fields almost retired. I'd also like to thank Roger Clemens, because I've thrown more insults at him than he's thrown clean pitches this decade. Curt Schilling is up there too just because he likes to hear himself talk and I like to make fun of him for that. I'd like to thank Barry Bonds for being the GOAT, and for looking good in a White Sox uniform, even though he'll never wear it (which does make me a sad panda). I'd like to thank qwerty just because he told me to mention him in here. I'd like to thank Steve for the 2 very good sigs he made me over the past 4-5 months, including the nipples sig which still remains immortal on here. I'd thank Darin Erstad, but that might puncture his tympanic membrane, and I'm sure Ed Wade really doesn't want me to do that. I'd also like to thank Willie, otherwise known as WHarris on here for eating a lot of food, because we all know that if Willie didn't eat food, well then he'd probably be dead. Kalapse, TRU, and Heads are on this list as well, but they are mainly on here for being so damn good looking. I'd like to thank myself for not going to the library half the time I was on here, because I really probably should have been there, but instead I'm here and I'm doing my best to do my best. Oh yes, and benchwarmerjim, because he has proven to us just how cool atleast one Twins fan really is. And then I'd really like to thank Jason for creating such a crazy good site just over 5 years ago; it is good. And most of all, I'd like to thank you Soxtalk - this is not actually your award, but you can sure as hell pretend like it is if you really want to, though I will probably look down upon such a choice by you!!!!!! THANK YOU! (except its two Soxtalk awards, not an Oscar...and I don't really look anything like Clooney, but if you think that's hot, then maybe I do actually look like Clooney)
  2. just going to go ahead and put the greatest sig of all time in here, so that way whenever I want it, I will have it. That, and I downloaded it, so I can just look at it in awe any time, any where (I have my computer)
  3. I agree, Livan Hernandez will TP the Twins
  4. QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 11:25 PM) As the loading screen says, Good Luck My friend who is pretty amazing has gotten to 90% through it and then failed. It's sorta cheating though, cuz during the first complete hammer-on solo, one of either my roommate or I have to strum for him.
  5. Just beat Through the Fire and Flames on hard. Next up is me never beating it on expert.
  6. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) So Owens is useless? And he gives us a younger speedy guy at the top of the order? How can you compliment a 'useless' guy? I think Owens will be a nice suprise this year. I think he's capable of a .270 batting average with 50 SBs if givin the playing time for an entire season. and 0 power At his peak, Owens might be comparable to Luis Castillo, though he'll probably be slightly worse. And Luis Castillo basically had to hit .310 to be a league average player; .270 would put him at well below average. Owens is not a starting caliber player on a good team; at the most, he should be a 4th outfielder. If Owens starts, that means Quentin is not starting, and that means you are probably sacrificing 100 points of OPS to get a twig at the plate who will hit .270, have 20-30 XBHs, and steal 50 bases. Those 50 steals really might translate into 5 runs that he wouldn't get otherwise, and if he gets caught that takes a chance away from one of Thome, Konerko, Dye, Fields, and Swisher to come up to the plate and put one in the stands. Owens is not that good and should be nowhere near the starting lineup.
  7. so to quote an amazing movie, and a quick one sentence brief on life right now "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking."
  8. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) hey, god has to have a good time, too. he's probably hanging out with the apostles, keeping it real and all, and says, "hey watch this." *god whispers into the air* "throw first-pitch fastball, it will work" *apostles roar with laughter* i mean, why wouldn't people believe this. we are talking about the guy who freaking invented humor.

    Forgetfulness

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) I think when I am talking with someone and I want to make a point it will sometimes slip my mind but my long term memory is ridiculous and I remember crazy stuff my friends never knew/ paid attention to this is very true for me as well I remember pretending to be Mega Man when I was 5 in the hallways of the hospital when I was visiting my brother for the first time. Mega Man. In the hospital. That was sweet, I killed Wood Man when I was there.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Was this girl Randy Moss? no comment
  11. we at soxtalk like to make it awkward in every possible thread
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Can you do that at your work? Anyone here able to have a Penthouse out on their desk? Absolutely, and in some regard, I'd bet that a kitchen compares very well to a locker room. Baseball players generally don't have desks; comparing the corporate world to the athletic world is apples to oranges in my mind; once you get into upper management, it's obviously a completely different story, but locker rooms are quite crazy, and I would venture to guess that much of that stuff happens a ton.
  13. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Well, I'm more than willing to sacrifice some power for good defense at one of the most important positions on the field. Forget Anderson, I shouldn't have even brought him up. He's fallen out of favor and out of the equation. Besides, while he may have more power than Owens, he can barely put the bat on the ball. I'll take Owens' ability to make contact and steal bases and put him in CF on opening day. The bottom line to this is that Kenny did not get the CF that he needed to get, and Owens is all we have. Swisher is not a CF, no matter how much we may wish it. I'm happy to have him, but he's a LF. Period. I don't think Dye has many years left, so Quentin will have to wait for him to retire to get his shot, and in the meantime he'll get his ABs spelling all the OF positions and DH. I'm OK with that. But this team is not winning anything with Nick Swisher as the everyday CF. End of story. Swisher will play a slightly below average to average defensive CF; meanwhile, Quentin will play a very good defensive LF and actually has an arm, giving the Sox a good arm at all 3 spots in the outfield. There will almost assuredly be a world of difference offensively between Quentin and Owens, and that is all that matters when it comes to who the centerfielder will be. Kenny told Swisher to be prepared to play quite a bit of CF this season for a reason, and it wasn't so the Sox could put him in LF. So long as Quentin shows up and plays fairly well in spring training, showing he's healthy and his power is atleast somewhat there, he will be the left fielder and Owens will be a 4th outfielder, which is really where he should be.

  15. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 01:22 AM) Opinions don't need to be backed up with any kind of logic, because opinions are based on how a person feels about a particular topic. However, if you need any kind of evidence that my opinion is indeed fact, watch the 2005 post season highlights and then break out a highlight reel from 2006, and you'll learn something. And someone said this is a "non-issue" because it happened 2 years ago. I couldn't find who said that, but maybe that's because they either edited or erased the post - because the article specifically says it was at the end of last season, which would have been 2007. So it was a matter of a couple/few months, not years. Opinions don't need logic, but a statement such as "Crede's merit as one of the best 3B in baseball" does need logic behind it. To add on to your statement, his 2005 postseason was fantastic, and he had a good 2006. Darin Erstad has a career .339 average in the postseason and had a ridiculous 2000, but he's not one of the best centerfielders in the game; otherwise, the Sox may have won 85 games last year, and Erstad wouldn't be making just $1 mill this year (lucky guy). Simply put, at his absolute best, Joe Crede might be a top 10 3Bman in the game; he offers fantastic defense and he puts up a pretty decent OPS. He's done that in only one of his 4 full years in the league. I'd just very much say that Crede is a mediocre 3Bman who is very easily replaced by one Josh Fields. That is all.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) I'd bet Schuler has, though. This, from what I've read, has actually been reported and has happened; Schu did draft him, so it would make sense that he would want him.
  17. Half the sexiness of Johan Santana. Seriously, Santana is so rico suave, it's amazing. I bet by the end of his nights he is batting women off him left and right
  18. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Uribe is better than Lugo How do you figure? Because the way I see it, it's clearly the opposite, and that Boston almost feels obliged to play Lugo due to the amount of money they gave him and based on his history. And the fact that Juan Uribe was one of the worst regulars in all of the majors last year and wouldn't be an upgrade for some AAA teams.
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) You know Rowand has spoked to Sabean about going after Crede... I actually doubt this

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) Off to Portillo's I always tell Willie to go and eat there. Whenever he says hes hungry, I say "go to Portillos!" actually I say Portillas just cuz it pisses him off, it's so cute!!!
  21. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Look, if you guys want to talk about religion and such, just request an admin to move some of this talk to Slam then yak it up. I will say it again, this is a non-story just like Pedro and the cock fighting from the DR IMO. You are not supposed to be the mature one in the room. Now please get belligerently drunk
  22. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) he gawn has entered my lexicon and is an effective punch line at opportune moments. I do agree with this wholeheartedly, and the best part is it's funny whether you understand the origin of it or not.
