QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) According to some Dominican sports website the Mets and Luis Castillo have agreed in principle to a 4 year $25M contract. What a horrible deal if true. Atleast it's not $36 mill like Eckstein wants.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) Please hire Jim Fassel as an OC and do it immediately...please. Didn't Brian Billick start calling the plays in Baltimore instead of Fassel because he was so terrible?

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) The next...Mariano Rivera? Yeah...he'll learn how to throw right-handed and everything

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) A freudian slip? Purposeful? Either way, a very funny use of the word 'meat'. was definitely thinking that exact thing

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) No doubt about it that Fields will be an above average fielder, he will probably win a GG or two in his career. Uhhh

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) ...well what do you think the first round players drafted are...teams don't pick players who don't have a good shot at the majors.... You mean when a person within the White Sox organization comes onto the board and talks about how the people who scouted Poreda have already been fired and that he was drafted two rounds earlier than he should have been?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) I made it about one second into the "good" part. Yeah

QUOTE(max power @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) I'd rather have colon cancer than scott podsednik. Actually I'll have some of both, but not a lot.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Yes he was, my mistake. Mark Loretta in the OF? I don't think so. He played LF one time in 1998, so I'm ready to pencil him into LF next year.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) One of the best assignments I've ever had was to massage Sommer before her event in Indy when she was there for the world championship. That was a very loooong and detailed massage! I want to be you

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) Because he hasn't even pitched in the majors. People are called prospects because they have a good shot at the majors. They aren't called prospects simply because they do well at a low level.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) no. ^^^ Phillies cannot offer arbitration; it is a stipulation of signing foreign free agents, generally. It is essentially the same principle as non-tendering a player.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) I'm just glad that we'll never have to hear "There's never been any solid evidence that Bonds used steroids." Well now there is. A positive test is now public record. You mean him saying that he used flaxseed oil that was actually steroids, but he didn't know about it, didn't do enough for you?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Guess he won't be joining the Sox now. This is easily the worst part of the news.

OHHHHHH NO

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I just like to remind people where the team's media coverage really matters. On the back page of the newspaper, not the business section. This is true, but basically the question being asked is "are the rewards in 2008 worth the repercussions in 2011 or '12?" I guess to answer that question, we'll have to wait until 2011 or '12.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) This money thing has always baffled me with the White Sox. Didn't somebody price the Sox as one of the most profitable organizations in baseball? If the Sox were sold today wouldn't Jerry make about 50 times the amount he bought the team for? If the Sox shelled out the money, they'd obviously go from near last to first in a year. The Yankees make the playoffs every year because of money, nothing else. Greg, you fail to surprise me day in and day out

10 years at $180 million would be a steal; 8 years at $180 mill would be a steal

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) I never said it was likely. (I think 5% might even be optimistic.) I'm just saying it's worth the risk, if by some miracle we can acquire him. It's a much better situation than one year and he walks. All of this. The Sox will have like a year and a half to figure out if he they can hammer out a deal to keep him in Chicago long-term; if they can't, they can probably just deal him again next offseason and not think twice about the whole thing.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 09:04 AM) For that, they can have him. I'll take Aaron for 4/48 versus Torii for 6/90. Hell I'd rather have Owens in CF for 400k than pay Hunter that much for that long. I would too; I doubt Rowand's would accept $12 mill a year. I see Rowand costing $13-14, and 5 years atleast. So, in general, I'd rather just rebuild.

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Hey, thats what Santana said... Santana has nothing to do with the future plans of the Twins organization; Bill Smith, Terry Ryan, Carl Pohlad - those types of people have something (read: everything) to do with the future plans of the Twins organization. If Hunter goes, Santana has a shot in hell at being retained, and if Santana goes, Hunter has a shot in hell at being retained. Never will the Twins spend enough to have both Santana and Hunter on the same payroll once their free agency has started.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) Seriously, I dont but the year difference. Basically Garland has a lot of trade value because he is above average and the league is starved for young starters (he is still what? 29 years old?) and is affordable for next year. If Jennings can bring back what he did last year, Garland should bring back about the same, and Bill Hall isnt that good, yes he has the potential to be better but he still isnt going to be a stud. Pitching is just too valuable right now for taht trade to be fair for the Sox. And Tim Purpura was fired because he was an idiot. I don't see it happening, and I really want nothing to do with Hall. To the Brewers, he's not a .740 player, he's a SS/2B/CF who's a year removed from a 35 homer, .900 OPS season; to the White Sox, he may very well be the player who put up a .740 OPS with the potential for greater. I don't see a deal involving Bill Hall being made; Melvin would be dumb to trade Hall at such low value.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Because Jones isn't a .222 hitter. So you are trying to tell me Frank Thomas isn't a .252 hitter?
