  1. I think I've been in the minority saying that "all in" for 2011 meant all in for 2012 as well. I don't see us going down to a 100M payroll or whatever with all of the bad contracts we have without drastically pissing off the fan base. Not to mention, as has been mentioned here many times, there's a portion of us who believe this team still makes out ok even with a poor turnout of 2M fans and a 120M payroll, despite what management would like us to believe.
  2. I missed this thread initially but it made me laugh when reading it today. Thanks El Rockin
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Dunn will not walk away from $28M under any circumstances. Foolish to think so. If he hits .200 next year with 20 hrs, sure. But if he hits .150 with 10 hrs in 2012, how would you see it playing out? He would just come back and shut his mouth, sit on the bench and pretend he's actually a legitimate baseball player?
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) I think he might if he's anything close to this bad again next year. It'd probably take the entirety of the 2012 season, but I can see it happening. Agreed. I think it would take the entire year of suckage, but if it was a repeat of 2011 I don't think he'd be up for going through that again in 2013, even though you're talking about giving up 30M or whatever. He also could at that point work out a buyout where the Sox just pay a portion of it and agrees to walk.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) How the hell do you know if they are yes men or not? When you take the star ballplayers wife for yourself and show her who is the boss in the bedroom, you are hardly a yes man in my book. /end argument
  6. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Granted I'm jaded, but aren't we all kidding ourselves here? Do we really think that KW, after years of enduring a wildman manager with whom his relationship soured at least 4 years ago, will be looking for anything BUT a yes-man? After the Ozzie Experience, I think most people--especially with KW's gargantuan ego--is going to do everything in his power to bring in somebody who will NOT rock the boat. This is basic workplace psychology. Unless KW tries that and JR has somebody else in mind and bigfoots KW. This is precisely why we're all kidding ourselves to think Martinez will be the guy, as much as we may want him, because I don't believe he's a yes man. Alomar it is
  7. Doesn't part of the decision figure into who will be Kenny's "yes man" and won't rock the boat? I don't see Martinez being that guy...
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Great to hear. No more excuses Gordon! I could not agree more. Gordon, go back to the 2009 swing and quick f**king around with all of these tweaks which just progressively made you a worse player year after year. I guess next year we will find out if Walker was at least partially to blame for our awful offense. I've never thought it was 100% his fault, but surely he needs part of the blame. Let's hope to replace him with someone capable of getting more out of Rios, Dunn, Beckham and Morel.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:57 AM) 3. You can’t tell it by the way his tenure with the White Sox ended, but Guillen is as close to being a genius as you can find in baseball. He has the ability to be in an animated conversation in one part of a stadium or clubhouse and know everything going on around him -- like the kid who never seems to be paying attention to the teacher but gets A's without studying. He’s that kid. That’s what I’ll miss the most -- how he catches everything. The man is pretty much a mind reader. Genius? All I can say is WOW.
  10. KW seems to want someone he can control as his new manager, so to me this just signifies the new guy in will be a "yes man" to KW, which totally sucks. I am already deflated hearing this news and what this really means
  11. Can someone please post the podcast when its available for the out of towners?
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Interestingly, Ozzie demanded an extension AND that KW be fired. This doesn't surprise me and if I was Ozzie I would ask for the same thing.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Or maybe he refused to listen to Walker for the 1st 5 months and just suddenly decided to follow Walker's advice in September? I'd be open to that however given Walker's less than stellar record one would have to at least assume the other. Of course there is no way to truly know if Walker is at fault, however, no doubt changes need to be made in this area with the hopes we can turn around some guys.
  14. Have we discounted the theory that he's abandoned Walker's talking to him and just decided to do something on his own (maybe thinking there is no way Walk will be back next year anyhow?) He's finally turning and burning, that's a good thing. He was a sally the first 5 months however...
  15. It could be argued that in fact that now we're out of it, and most people assume this coaching staff will no longer be here next year, that guys like Morel are just trying stuff on their own and not bothering to listen to Walk any longer. Of course this is pure speculation, however, I think it's certainly possible. Finally Morel is turning and burning, something we haven't seen all year until the last 3 weeks. Coincidence?
  16. Vintage MB today! Hopefully we can find a way to get him back for another 2-3 yrs.
  17. Steve Stone just said that Adam Dunn could win the comeback player of the year just by "coming back". By the way, I'm not sure if Hawk has said it before, but the "Dunn is going to work hard and come back strong" talk from him just popped up last inning. I'm waiting for the first story in January about Dunn "hitting off a tee"
  18. I was just thinking the same thing when looking at his numbers this year. I think he is a viable leadoff option for next year with JP presumably gone.
  19. At this point it doesn't even matter if it's Walkers fault or not. They need to make a change to show they actually, uhh, care and want to try something new, different, do, uhhh, SOMETHING. Look at what could have been if we brought up Viciedo in June? De Aza for Rios? Look at the spark they've provided? While not a guarantee, it would have shown they were willing to make a change.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Don't worry ... a month after the season is over the only Sox stories we'll be reading will be the ones about how Dunn is going to bounce back nicely (unless of course, there is a firing of Oz/KW/both). That will be the story of the offseason. His resurgence. My favorite: Dunn is hitting off a tee GMAFB
  21. Who is going to take AJ and his 6M salary next year?
  22. It's got to be Ozzie or Kenny, and without a doubt Walker MUST go. If that's not obvious now I don't know what is.
  23. 2012 is a contract year for him, so yes, expect a good year. I'm predicting he'll win 15 games and post an ERA below 4. If he does that, however, he should sign a multi year league minimum contract with the Sox to compensate for all of the money he stole during his tenure from the team/insurance company.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) Ozzie said Dunn makes too much money to get PH for. I thought you were being sarcastic when saying this. LOL. I think the reality was, however, that Ozzie was hoping Dunn would somehow get a walk off hit and it would perhaps do something to turn around this year (or next if he plans on being here). Still an awful decision, but seeing that we're out of it, it does water it down a bit.
  25. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) If AJP throws out a base stealer at 2nd and Juan throws out a tagging runner at home and nobody sees it, did it really happen? This is an all time low for Soxtalk. 3 posts in 5 innings for a game thread.
