2 really nice AB's by Morel today. RBI single on this AB. Nice to see! -
3.26 spring training game vs LAD
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2012 Season in Review
The Dodgers announcers have no clue about the White Sox. They said Paulie would be DH'ing most of this year and that Rios is an excellent fastball hitter. Maybe Rios was in the first half of 2010, but.... -
Fingers crossed, but he's looked really solid this spring and also very confident at the plate- even with 2 strikes. If he can return to form it could be a fun year of watching White Sox baseball.
-
Dayan not looking good at the plate. Is it time to hit the panic button here?
-
I'm a fan, but no way am I going to LISTEN to a spring training game- that's pretty hard core if you ask me

Where's the webcast link? Or is there no video feed today?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) How is Dunn hitting so far in ST games? Any bombs? Swung the bat very nicely yesterday as well. Actually made solid contact with 2 strikes, a huge surprise for me. His bat looked a bit quicker and he looked much more confident to me. Beckham and Morel impressed as well, not to mention Rios. If this is an indication of what is to come then this could really be a fun year...we just need to find a way to get someone else in that 2 spot other than AJ, IMO

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 01:46 AM) That's the correct answer. Dotson won 111 games in his career, and with the White Sox, a lot more than 50....seems like he won around 97 games for the Sox.

BP Cup preview game- Sox/Cubs 3/9/12

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) That is quite a load-up Viciedo puts on his swing. That is not a swing that is going to lead to much success in the Majors, sadly. I was going to say that strike 3 swing was VERY long. Hopefully we see him learn to shorten it up a bit -

PK bounces into a DP. Still, I am very encouraged with what I've seen out of Dunn, Rios, Beckham & Morel in a very small sample size today...if it keeps up like this throughout the year it really could be an exciting year to watch this team. -

I have to say that was a very exciting first inning watching our guys swing the bat. I also hate to see AJ in the 2 hole (just awful) but Dunn just missed one (and made good solid contact with 2 strikes against a lefty) which is something we almost didn't see ALL of last year. For me that is incredibly encouraging. Regarding Sale, his velocity looked ok, not great, but he did reach back on a few fastballs for the K he had that had some life on them. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) First round draft picks who were past Rookie of the Year rarely get DFA'ed or released. He'll be dealt for someone like a Justin Smoak if he continues to flail around for another season in Seattle. The typical busted prospects trade, Borchard for Thornton, etc. Even if he hits .220, he still has a lot of value to the organization as a utility infielder/defensive replacement at 2B/SS/3B. You're probably just not going to release him...it would make KW and the front office look stupid. Whatever they will do, you can count on them trying to save face, like they did in the past with Josh Fields and Brian Anderson. Agreed, but for the record Gordo wasn't rookie of the year.

Sox spring training Catch All thread

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 06:01 PM) Interesting that it was Team Dunn vs. Team Konerko. Guess this means that the players are showing support for Dunn. Right? I am hearing that Beckham looking good at the plate. That is encouraging. But didn't he start last year the same way? Hopefully this year is different. I recall he had a good ST last year, yes. -
2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Now we are talking about Brent Morel. Could he get into the low 20's? Sure. Odds are, the .275 15HR, Good defensive 3B is who we are talking about. I think I was among the biggest critics of Morel's cautious/never "turn and burn" approach at the plate for the majority of the year in 2011, but that was a completely different animal out there in September. If we see more of that in 2012 it would be a really nice surprise as I don't think anyone is considering him to do much this year. He's easily the least talked about/forgotten position player on this White Sox ballclub. -
Humber will start first spring game
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Looks like the rotation is set, if Humber starts a B-game on the off day March 20, the rotation goes right up until opening day: 1. Danks 2. Peavy 3. Floyd 4. Sale 5. Humber That's fine. The schedule is set up to skip Sale a few times in the first half. Keeping him at about 28 starts this year is good enough. 28 starts at an average of 6 IP would be a very solid year IMO -
I also wish he'd just shut his mouth as well and go back to his old swing/mentality. This begs the question- why didn't he just "go back to himself" last year?? Sounds silly to me to say something like this, unless he felt someone was not allowing him to do that. I haven't given up on him, however. I loved watching him swing the bat in 2009 and if we can get that back it would do wonders for the future prospects of this team going forward.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Man, that video is exciting. Sure, it's only a couple plays, but saying the ball jumps off his bat is an understatement. Stoney's laugh on that HR in Seattle says it all. I can't wait to see this play hit every day. We've had our fair share of miscues in the OF over the last decade. That actually was Wimpy laughing, for the record. Just sayin.

KW holding himself accountable or just ST "pr spin" for fans
JohnCangelosi replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 11:35 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7752565.story Interesting that KW is going so far out of his way to avoid criticizing Ozzie's spring training approach. Wonder if there's a directive from JR not to pick any more Twitter/internet fights with the Guillens? I'd be extremely surprised if JR did NOT specifically tell KW and maybe even the players to just let bygones be bygones as it came to anything that the Guillen regime did- I think to get a fresh start for Robin it makes a lot of sense to be very specific about it. The best thing the Sox can do now is just go in a new direction with Robin and pretend that Ozzie doesn't exist. At least he's in the NL now so that should make things a bit less messy moving forward as long as no comments are made along the way suggesting that things are "so much better now" by players/coaches etc. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) For that big of a loss, we are probably talking about gastric bypass or a serious health event. Come to Europe and you'll see that nearly nobody here is a fat slob like Herm was- primarily because they're not having the "4th meal" at Taco Bell and they don't think that ordering a filet-o-fish meal with a large coke at McDonalds is a light lunch. My guess is he laid off the sauce, fries, and starting working out like a normal human being and the weight came off. It's amazing what a bit of diet and exercise can do for the human body. -
Quite frankly it will be refreshing to see a different lineup out there other than the Ozzie lineups. I am expecting Robin's to make a bit more sense.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Regarding Pierre, that was my point, so how do you come up with 8 losses worse off the top. Also, there's no way Dunn isn't better and I'll say the same for Rios too. Wouldn't you say our bullpen is considerably weaker (at least on paper) going into this year? I agree that Rios will be much improved this year- no reason to think why just a gut feel. I wish I could say the same about Dunn but I am not so sure, as crazy and awful as that sounds.
