  1. Sounds like how the Cubs ended up with a barren system with no way to replenish at the end of their window. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  2. Means is going to be prohibitively expensive. https://www.cleveland.com/guardians/2022/04/guardians-like-it-or-not-are-going-to-play-the-kids-week-in-baseball.html The Indians have a much better system and wouldn't meet the asking price for Winker and Olson, but it's interesting they were trying to add.
  3. They couldn’t during the lockout…not legally. Do you honestly think Lynn was going to be in the best shape of his life with a guaranteed deal?
  4. Guess they’re waiting to claim some DFA’s or Adolfo types who are declared minor league free agents. The Mets are still looking, the Twins…it's not going to come cheap for Manaea if the Padres pull Paddack from the market.
  5. Couldn't expect a repeat from 2021 with starting pitching health...we only belaboured the point for about five months.
  6. Same knee from last year? Well, the price for starting pitching is rising by the minute, with the Mets also desperate.
  7. Mmmmy precious..... Lynn getting lit up or balls just falling in?
  8. He’s not in the Top 7-8 in their pitching depth chart…it’s simply that they prefer to let Logan Allen continue starting in the minors.
  9. He was around 94 his last outing with Sox.
  10. Out at least until the beginning of May. Nerve inflammation.
  11. Probably for dreaded veteran leadership...LH...almost no cost to acquire and questions about Schwindel and Wisdom being core pieces, plus the DH and the Cubs have something the Mets want?
  12. Suzuki 2/14 so far, both homers. 6 k's.
  13. Twins undoubtedly made the right move having to choose between him and Berrios...and then the team-friendly extension if he can stay on the field 120+ games per season was the cherry on top. The only way for them to field a team with two MVP candidates in the same lineup with a limited payroll.
  14. You are Mr. Optimistic. Except for the Shark trade, all the controversial moves with the A's are more related to the Moneyball Era and KW/Beane. Shouldn't you now be more confident in your different GM pulling off a trade with the A's (different GM) more than half a decade later? You don't need a support animal, so be brave! Also, stop making evaluations on Sheets based on the most favorable matchups. I'm not saying he goes and does the Palka Polka off the stage, but Dayan Viciedo playing everyday after warning everyone not to get too excited is instructive here. Maybe the LHedness saves him from a trade in favor of Burger or Vaughn, but you also need to know when is the right time to sell high on an asset and when to hold (Vaughn/Jimenez).
  15. Did you run this thought past TLR? Just on handedness alone Harrisonis doomed. Then again, TLR probably doesn't look at FG to notice Harrison's 2018-2020 lack of production in the first place.
  16. Haven't seen many Stiller or De Niro movies recently...Gaylord Perry Foecker.
  17. Almost like that story of the player traded in the middle of a double header who just switched clubhouse and played in the second game for his new team. Finally discovered one advantage of having two teams housed in same facility...ease of scouting players cost-effectively.
  18. The 8th inning was a problem since the opening series in Anaheim. The real difference of opinion comes in on whether Kimbrel could shift roles on a dime...
  19. Well, except Eaton's 2016 and Avi's 2017...
  20. Gavin Sheets and Jared Kelley Wes Kath/Jake Burger Vera/Romy Gonzalez for Manaea, three packages thrown out there via internet speculation
  21. It would take almost our entire minor league system, arguably. We could probably protect Vera, Montgomery and Colas.
  22. Makes sense for the Mets if they believe in him as a starting pitcher...and depends how much of the Hosmer contract they are willing to take on. Gives the Padres salary relief...Voit to 1B and Dom Smith to DH. LF would be a mix of Profar/Beaty depending on matchups. Cuts the Padres rotation back down to five with Lamet, Gore and Weathers...eventually Morejon, providing depth.
  23. Well, obviously he was never going to compete with Betts, who possesses one of the best throwing arms in the game. Or Bellinger, in CF. Or Pederson. Or Kike Rodriguez. Or even Chris Taylor. So it's going to be a matter of simply meeting the lowest of expectations with the Sox, which is Leury/Sheets/AV or broken down versions of Eaton and Mazara. We're relying on more and more veterans than any time since the unforgettable "lost decade" of the 2010's... Graveman 31, Hendriks 33, Kelly 33/34, Lynn 34/35, Velasquez 29/30, Grandal 33/34, Abreu 35, Harrison 34/35, Engel 30/31, Leury 31, Pollock 34 That's 11 guys now. We still have the young core guys, but even TA7 will be 30 in another year...and has a lot of wear and tear on his body due to his style of play. We have this PEAK year of 2022, one more year in 2023 and everything else beyond is "uncertain" or opaque at best. Minus one more starting pitcher, it's as close as we are going to get to "all in," which is basically the time of the trade deadline last year through the end of this season. As everyone is well aware by now, the number of players making significant contributions over the age of 35 is diminishing by the year...especially on the position player side of things. But I guess it's all somehow quite appropriate as we reach the twilight of JR's ownership years...a fitting ending, with a manager over 80 years old as well.
