Sox vs St Louis Covids Game 1 8/15 thread, noon start

MLB Debut for Dylan Carlson...dangerous pitch up in the zone. Got him to expand the strike zone, thankfully. Just get the hell out of this inning, you've already screwed my WHIP rate for the rest of the day, lol. -

This is just a ridiculous way to start a day/night doubleheader. -

Guess we get BAD/TERRIBLE Giolito today. How many days' rest is he on again? -

Of course, Cardinals' broadcast playing the Yelich inside-the-park homer...and then the video where he fell over and just sat down in the first row. -

How can there be SO MANY freakin' plays that Jimenez is involved with the LF line netting already? -

So much for the theory the Cardinals were just going to be completely out of synch. 0-2 pitches for singles, UGH. -

Alternative. Giolito, let's try to get through this first inning with 0-1 runs surrendered. Hate walks leading off the game for the opposition. -
Yes, I'm WELL aware of that. Just didn't realize he was outside of the United States until I looked him up, so no ethical debate regardless.

1 Tantalizing Trade Chip for all 30 teams
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they were willing to send $8-10 million per year for two years + $1 million buyout, of course he'd be an option. For example, they need a 2B if Profar can't hold the position down...ultimately, they'd like to swap out Myers for Taylor Trammell if everything goes as predicted, or they would have to play Josh Naylor or Olivares everyday in the OF (assuming a Myers trade happens, which is 50/50 at best). How much are we realistically willing to pay Springer or Joc Pederson? It's going to be more or less than $10-12 million per season, yes? -
Off days discussion: Best player after Trout?

Conversely, he's broken almost every record in baseball for the first 100 games of a big league career, age 20/21 numbers, first MLB SS to hit 30 homers in his first 100 games, first player to record 30 homers and 20 stolen bases in first 100 career games...the only comparable names that are up there are going to be Griffey, Jr. and A-Rod. -

ALL THE CUBANS. Trademark pending with MLB Advanced Media/BAMTECH/MLB Properties. -
Rumors circulating on the Dark Web a Ukrainian troll farm was hired to hide behind VPNs and bombard SoxTalk with likes and trophies.... Mic drop only works for those 2,000 and higher...after missing most of last year, it’s a daunting challenge to get back in the “race.”

He did much better than expected for his age last year...? But he had a regular ST after opting out with divorce the prior year?

Off days discussion: Best player after Trout?
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No need. My life has been an ongoing search for the next Roberto Clemente, from a scouting perspective, haha. Of course, nobody will ever be able to measure up to his off the field/humanitarian contributions. In my lifetime, Sosa (first 2-3 years), Eric Davis, Mike Cameron (as a Sox fan), Puig, Tatis and Robert are on a short list of the closest. Luis Robert has way more pop in his bat, much taller and not capable of taking those outside sliders to the opposite field just yet. In terms of actual hitting approach, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., could be the closest today, but absolutely nothing else in common. His father lacked the foot speed but similar outfield arms and ability to drive any pitch within 10-12 inches of the strike zone in all four directions, but especially diving out over the plate and stepping in the bucker and still tripling . Ichiro Suzuki was amazing. -

Shoulder injury (seems he can’t catch a break) the likely reason Ian Hamilton’s velo was 93-95 mph his last time out. -
https://www.mlb.com/news/trade-deadline-chips-every-mlb-team-2020 Spencer Turnbull, Matthew Boyd, Forrest Whitley, Robbie Ray, Kevin Gausman all could be on the move. James McCann the White Sox name considered most intriguing/valuable this season. Another potential RF solution... Padres: Wil Myers, OF Under club control through: 2023 Depending whether San Diego ultimately winds up as a buyer or a seller, Myers could be part of any trade. He’s off to a hot start (.965 OPS, 5 home runs through Thursday's games) and makes a ton of money (he’s owed $40 million from 2021-22, plus a $20 million club option for '23 with a $1 million buyout). So if the Padres have a chance to move him, they would likely jump at it whether it brings back prospects or useful big league players. Our old friend Joc Pederson also on the market, potentially.

Sneakier would have been deliberately not including him...thus forcing objective posters to at least consider him in the top 3-5 spots at the very least. -
But then what about the Astros and Red Sox over 2017-18, not to mention the previous Ortiz/Manny Ramirez Red Sox? Perhaps more memorable because such a surreal year from beginning to end?

That makes zero sense. He will deliberately be under-voted, just on principle.
