2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Pace was 26-136 at start of the day. -
That was KW to a tee from 2000-2012...power-based/high scoring games and much more "entertainment value" than what we've all witnessed from 2022-25. 2000-2001 2003-2006 2008 2010-12 in particular.

The former Red Sox GM?

7. Garrett Crochet, Red Sox (7) Boston's blockbuster trade for Crochet continues to pay off as he looks overpowering for the Sox. Following his start Wednesday night, Crochet's ERA is 1.98 through 11 starts, and he's racked up 78 K's in an MLB-high 68 1/3 innings pitched. He's gone at least seven innings in five starts already, tied with Logan Webb and Framber Valdez for the most of any pitcher. mlb.com

mlb.com Get ready, baseball fans. The "Korean Ohtani" is coming. His name is Seong-Jun Kim, he's a two-way player, and he just signed with the Rangers as an international free agent. Now, we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves here … Kim is still in high school over in Korea, and he's only 18 years old. So it'll be a little while before we might see him in the Major Leagues. But the emergence of a new two-way phenom in baseball is exciting. And the good news is, the Rangers want Kim to stay that way. "We have full intent as an organization to develop him as a two-way player," Rangers international scouting director Hamilton Wise said after Texas signed Kim on Sunday. "We believe he has the qualities and ingredients for that challenge." Will Kim be a superstar like Ohtani? He thinks he can. "It's gonna be hard, not easy," Kim said after signing (via interpreter Kwangmin "Andre" Park). "But I will do my best. I'm not going to regret anything at all. I will do my best. … If I can improve better and earlier, I can be the best player in the big leagues." Here are some fast facts about Kim: He's a shortstop and right-handed pitcher. He's now ranked the Rangers' No. 15 prospect by MLB Pipeline. As a pitcher, he throws a fastball, slider, splitter and curveball and already touches 95 mph with his heater. As a batter, he's an above-average contact hitter and projects for 15-plus home run power in the future. His high school in Korea, Gwangju Jeil High School, has produced four other big leaguers: Byung-Hyun Kim, Hee-Seop Choi, Jae Weong Seo and Jung Ho Kang. Want to know more about the Korean Ohtani? Doesn't really matter with Fletcher/Julks vs. Tauchman, as Mike's currently on the MLB 40 man roster with a guaranteed major league contract. Both him and Benintendi will likely displace Capra and Palacios (although that would take away Venable's go-to #3/5 hitter with a career MLB ops in the 660's)

The primary problem is that Baldwin doesn't hit well enough to carry his negative defense at practically every position you play him at. He almost has to be a 2B not to hurt the team, and that's not even assured. And relievers (unless they're elite closers or amazing lefties like an Andrew Miller who can go multiple innings) won't bring you much of anything in return unless you package 2-3 of them together. I assume you're referring here to guys like Pallette, Coffey...Grant Taylor now??? Originally, Garrett Schoenle was also on one poster's list, but has seemingly fallen off. Oppor or McDougal also profile here if they can master the whole command/control aspect of pitching.

Crazy finish to that Pacers Knicks game. -
Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
caulfield12 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Robert's now down in the negative fWAR numbers again on the season...he's ranked ahead of only Doyle, Taveras, Nolan Jones, Moniak (more a RFer) and Jo Adell. Chase is on pace for a 3.5ish fWAR, Vargas around 3.3, Thaiss 2.1 (likely traded) and Sosa 1.4ish. That's pretty much it. Vaughn somehow is at -1.3, on pace for more than -4 fWAR on the season Baldwin -0.6, Palacios -0.4 -
However, Witherspoon has shown some drastic issues with command, particularly during the 2024 NCAA season. When he misses the zone, he’s capable of missing by a lot, which makes it significantly harder for him to get batters to chase. Additionally, he often misses high, which can get him into some trouble. With this being said, the right-hander still had a very strong season at Oklahoma, cementing himself in their rotation with a 3.71 ERA, 10.1 K/9, and 4.5 BB/9. He was even better in limited action on the Cape, showing improved command and control with 10 strikeouts, zero walks, and just one earned run over nine innings of work. Pitch-wise, the fastball is Witherspoon’s best offering because of its swing-and-miss potential, with the slider (which occasionally morphs into a cutter) not far behind for the same reason. His changeup still needs more development as it lacks effectiveness and he struggles to locate it, making it a subpar tertiary offering. However, if Witherspoon can develop his changeup into a strong third offering and carry his improved command from the Cape into the 2025 NCAA season, he could be one of the top college arms in the draft and a solid late first-rounder. Looks like Witherspoon has really shot up the charts from where he was just a year ago... https://primetimesportstalk.com/2025-mlb-draft-scouting-report-kyson-witherspoon/ With a quick short arm back, he does hide the ball really well and all his offerings come out of the same slot, but there is some real controlled violence in his delivery that does lead to plenty of reliever risk concerns. He offers a free pass every other inning, so not massive control concerns, and the command is solid too (that sentence doesn't make a lot of sense), it is more a question of whether or not the delivery will hold up numerous times through a lineup and handling a full workload at the professional level. This is one of those arms that has almost limitless upside, but plenty of risk at the same time. https://threequarterslot.com/2024/12/08/2025-mlb-draft-kyson-witherspoon-rhp-oklahoma/

Travel costs...that's why you also have a lot of 4-5 game series, instead of 2 and usually 3 games at a time.

14 in a row was this same time last year, 15-34 to 15-48 Then they had another 21 game losing streak later in the season before Grady came on board.
-
C.Montgomery no strikeouts but no hits either so far. Zavala almost up to a 700 OPS....Jeral Perez just north of 800, playing 2B tonight (yet another 2B/3B but not a SS, unfortunately) Braden up to 15 RBI's with W-S, .310 / .989 OPS Dash leading 10-8 in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The only one who really stood out in the second half was Burke with his last three starts at the very end. And at least we haven't gone to Jesse Scholtens YET this season.

White Sox: Christian Oppor, LHP (No. 18) Extremely raw when the White Sox selected him in 2023's fifth round out of Gulf Coast State (Fla.) JC, Oppor has impressed with his arsenal and improved polish while putting together a 3.46 ERA, .180 average-against and 37 strikeouts in 26 innings between two Class A levels. He's working at 93-95 mph and touching 98 with his fastball while also missing bats with a sweeping 78-82 mph slider and tumbling upper-70s change up. mlb.com

Two games behind Balt after today... Let's hope the 2025 team doesn't copy those 14 consecutive losses from last year at this time.

Bullpen up to their normal tricks again. Shane Smith still hasn't given up more than 3 earned runs in a game. Palacios matching his career ops line now.

Or the next shelter rescue is Arizona/ACL ball...first Colson for almost ten days, now Iriarte and Hagen Smith are being "saved." Wolkow next? Clevinger?
