  1. White Sox have to be worst in the majors at holding runners/preventing steals. Can't get away with that at all in the post-season, when every base advanced counts. Guess the numbers weren't QUITE as bad as I thought. Actually, we're 9th at Fangraphs in total team defense. Rays/Padres 1st and 2nd.
  2. There are generally the type of pitchers that give the Sox fits until around the third time through the line-up...
  3. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/the-monday-9-mlb-vaccinations-are-stalling-out-dodgers-and-padres-are-not-142214746.html
  4. Why are we last in Asian players rostered/signed in MLB going back to the late 1990's?? Takatsu, Iguchi and briefly Fukudome.
  5. Probably a wink-wink agreement for taking him in and earning Boras millions in commissions on the next deal for Rodon (if if if he can stay healthy all season long and especially dazzle in October.)
  6. Reminder to TLR. Carpenter is nearly done. Don't treat him like he's the same threat from 5-7 years ago.
  7. Can we just give Nick Williams and Goodwin to the Tigers? Geez. That offense. If that doesn't help, loan Burgatron/Sheets/Rutherford. Even with just three starters and without F.Reyes for 5-7 weeks, that scrappy team is hanging in there.
  8. I wonder why more teams don’t go after Paddy, as he’s the linchpin for LA evaluations and the majority of signings.
  9. Might have been wrong to joke...
  10. Mikolas, Franmil Reyes (5-7 weeks for the dreaded oblique) and Maeda all go on IL...
  11. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/tony-la-russas-screwups-reminder-white-sox-shouldve-hired-alex-cora Everyone seems to have moved on from Hinch already...Cora’s doing a great job with Boston, and Sale returning this year could swing the division....depending on which version of Severino and Sale show up for their respective teams.
  12. By the way, my new priority in life is to catch you in likes before the All Star Break. Don’t say you weren’t warned, Skoal Bandit.
  13. I gave up worrying about emojis a long time ago, whereas it still seems to be bothering you because you bring it up occasionally...and, as far as KyLle and his Army of the Dead goes, he has his lane. As long as it doesn’t entail “driving” a Pontiac Fiero into outer space, we’ll all somehow be okay.

  15. Well, considering that MOST of my posts were in the numerous years before 2019 when the site went in this direction...and I didn't post anything in the first three months of that 2019 season, and didn't in general post much at all for around a year until Covid-19 hit Wuhan here in January of 2020, that just MIGHT explain it. This is where you're misreading statistics, because Chisxfn or all those on the Top 10 list would be running circles around everyone here, but some of them aren't or haven't posted as much due to changing life circumstances in the last 2-3 seasons. If you had some actual way to go back to the very beginning of the emoji system and calculate "likes per post" beginning on that day, then you might actually have a pretty valid point. Of the top posters on this site, almost all of them are going to be in that 1/4th to 1/2 range for the reasons I just explained. LONG posting history before the controversial (LOL) institution of the emoji system you seem to be so obsessed with, like getting likes or comments at FB or Insta could mean anything or nothing. It could be you have hired an army of Ukrainian bots to give yourself likes from VPN-hidden ISP's, right? Or recruited friends and family to "like" all your posts in order to game the system and earn thousands per month...check that...ZERO dollars for your efforts/perceived popularity. It's basic mathematics. Unless you really think someone can be a member for 10+ years, and then suddenly post 15-20,000 messages per year...but that's hidden now with the time/date of one's original post gone/hidden/missing from the profiles. We can easily see this phenomenon play out with Fathom, one of the most famous posters here. 6939/123,755=0.056 likes per post (or just 5.6% of posts are liked). Oh my god, what is going on? Ron is more than TEN TIMES more popular/successful/cool/hip/trendy than the almighty Fathom. He maybe should be nominated for an Honorary SoxTalk Moderating Position/Officially-Designated Spokesperson for a Tobacco-Free Board.
  16. https://www.mlb.com/stats/?playerPool=QUALIFIED_ROOKIES Looks like Texas' Adolis Garcia would win if the voting was held today, with Yermin beating out Arozarena and Baddoo for 2nd. Vaughn and Madrigal within a single OPS point of each other, both just south of 700. Nobody really stands out on the pitching side. Kopech, Luis Garcia (HOU), MIze (DET) and Josh Fleming (TBR).
  17. Tatis, Jr., is her favorite player, lol...and this is exactly the crazy kind of play he would attempt, except into the 3B stands.
  18. Ron now gets ZERO emoji's for always being so obsessed with them...reverse psychology. It's like if you talk or complain about not having a g/f, then you definitely won't get one and might be called an INCEL. So always yourself, be confident, know that you will never please all of the people all of the time no matter what efforts you undertake...then you will have more (emojis/girls/$$$) than you know what to do with, lol. Or maybe you TOO can implement a strategy or policy of saying things that are so ridiculous/outlandish/hot-takeish (let's call it the My Pillow Guy or Mike Lindell Special) that you manage to pile up 100's of emoji's and chase down Fathom, Southsider2k5 and CWS...before you draw the ire of nearly everyone on the board and are declared persona non grata pretty much.
  19. I could probably add a quotation from Fahrenheit 451 but will refrain...
  20. Why in God's name would LaRussa, a HoFer baseball person and second all-time in managerial wins (almost) listen to Rick Hahn? It's like the scouts in MONEYBALL (Grady Fuson) listening to Jonah Hill/DePodesta at that awkward/uncomfortable table in the conference room.
  21. Kelly's struggles are UNLIKELY to be correlated to offseason work...there's a million other factors that could possibly be in play, and speculating over the internet is completely worthless and at best idle speculation unless we're provided something a bit more concrete to roll with.
  22. https://www.mlb.com/news/fernando-tatis-jr-hits-grand-slam-vs-mariners OPS up to 1.111, average now over .300.
  23. That was probably me, lol... I was just taking the Devil's Advocate position they couldn't possibly spend $173 million...this was, of course, months and months before the 14 year extension, the longest contract in MLB history (well, technically Bobby Bonilla, haha), was announced. That the Wil Myers and Hosmer contracts would serve as a drag, along with Machado's...and this was also before they added Clevinger, Darvish (another big salary), Musgrove and Snell from the Rays. https://www.eastvillagetimes.com/the-san-diego-padres-with-money-to-spend/ 2009 – $42.79 (29th) 2010 – $ 37.79 (29th) 2011 – $45.86 (28th) 2012 – $55.24 (30th) 2013 – $67.14 (26th) 2014 – $90.09 (21st) 2015 – $100.67 (22nd) 2016 – $112.89 (17th) 2017 – $71.62 (28th) 2018 – $96.13 (25th) Finally, the new ownership group led by Ron Fowler and the O’Malley heirs ramped up payroll from 2013 and beyond, minus the 2016 season, which saw the beginning of a veteran-based “retooling” program (Shields/Kemp/Upton, etc.) and that also saw the team invest an amazing $80+ million in international signings and another $16+ million during that year’s first-year-player draft-eligible players’ draft. So even when seeing the team’s major league payroll drop during the 2017 season, the team spent almost $100 million on amateur talent, which created the foundation for what is currently the top-rated farm system and envy of all of baseball. This hot lava really was brought on by the tremendous investment that this ownership group gave the green light to. On top of all this, the team has now given out the three largest contracts in team history in three successive seasons. 2016- James Shields Free Agent- 4-years/$75 million 2017- Wil Myers Extension- 6-years/$83 million including a $20 million team option for 2023 2018- Eric Hosmer Free Agent- 8-years/$133 million 2019 Manny Machado Free Agent 8 years/$240 million 2020 Fernando Tatis, Jr. (internal) 14 years/$340 million (some deferred) (Note: FIVE, count 'em FIVE, contracts bigger than the biggest in White Sox history for Yasmani Grandal...and a CJ Abrams extension would be #6.) ... Now let’s talk about the sheer amount of money and revenue in the game of baseball, and specifically, the amount for the San Diego Padres. Forbes has recently valued the Padres organization at approximately $1.3 billion, which is quite a jump from the $800 million total the Fowler-led group acquired the team for only six short seasons ago, with estimated revenues of $266 million and an operating income at approximately $26 million yearly. The twenty year Fox Sports San Diego (now Bally Sports) deal signed in 2012 also brings in on average $50 million yearly to Padre coffers. Contributing to, and adding to the windfall major league teams are bringing in, are the recent sale of BamTech to Disney, where each team received proceeds approaching another $50 million. The league also extended National TV rights for another seven seasons starting in 2021 thru the 2028 season for $5.1 billion. Those national TV rights are spread throughout the league among ownership groups and certainly give teams more money than ever before. So going into this off season, with the top farm system in baseball and money to spend, this ownership group has one thing in mind, and that is putting their money where their mouth is and putting a winning product out on the field.
  24. Absolutely nobody, not even his own doctors and Sox team doctors...could make that kind of determination on May 23rd. Also no reason to have any certainty that Engel's suddenly going to set the world on fire coming off a major injury to his top tool (speed/defense/baserunning) and put up higher than a 675 OPS. Especially when those numbers in 2020 were padded by the Detroit and KCR pitching staffs.
