  1. Braden Bonemer 1-1 pick Billy Carlson I’ll take those odds and only worry about Carlson. If you add in Antonacci Meidroth Quero Schultz Hagen McDougal Oppor, sure roughly half will fail.
  2. Agreed with pretty much everything but Getz being outstanding based solely on Vargas for the moment (and Mune as well) and Grant Taylor is likely the new closer over Dominguez (10/13).
  3. Because of Joe Mauer and Buster Posey fizzling out early? Rutschman?
  4. "He has an 80 arm (on the 20-80 scale) that would obviously let him play third base or in the outfield if someone wanted to move him to get his bat in the lineup more. I saw one in-game throw where he nailed a runner at second with a 1.75 second pop time, which is about as good as it gets. The bat is pretty special, too, as he’s hitting .398/.519/.789 through the weekend with a team-leading 12 homers and improved batted-ball quality over last year. He’s a disciplined hitter who’s whiffed on 16 percent of his swings this year — just 9 percent on fastballs — and he’s chased pitches well out of the zone only 12 percent of the time, helping him walk more than he’s struck out on the season. There’s some extraneous movement at the start of his swing, with a big leg move backwards, but he finishes in a balanced spot that lets him get power from his hips as well as his hands. He’s even continued hitting against better competition in ACC play, with a .354/.488/.723 line and nearly identical whiff and chase rates. Athletic catchers with value on both sides of the ball like this are extremely hard to find in college or high school, and of course, a player who can do both at that position has a chance to be one of the most valuable players in baseball." from one month ago Law C 3B/CF 1B either corner outfield spot Would be considered a top prospect even if he wasn't a catcher.
  5. David Hamilton has been quite useful too as a super utility tool.
  6. A true overachiever like Getz.
  7. I Have A Dream the reflecting pool actually reflects, instead of looking like a country club swimming pool. At least the arch lost four lions, though.
  8. il selvaggio "“The Savage" Teel gave him that, or Silent Assassin
  9. They’re giving Snell a two month timeline with similar injury.
  10. Fathom switching to Rambling Wreck pick?
  11. Not even close to Carson Fulmer yet…
  12. Pereira just hasn’t been able stay healthy the last 2-3 years.
  13. Back then you just looked at homers and RBIs and maybe SB’s. OBP was the 2001 A’s.
  14. Yes just like odds of Colson's even making it to the majors was about 50/50 or maybe less. Bonemer feels pretty certain to at least make it up now. Carlson has a lot further to go...especially as a hitter. Fulfilling potential, who knows? The last Sox prospects drafted first round not to make it...Jared Mitchell, Hawkins Honel, right? Keenyn Walker was supplemental. Poreda and Ring didn't also do much...were traded.
  15. Now a race against time to get Skubal back before July 31st so they can trade him if this team trend continues. Not sure how much cooperation they will get from player/agent looking ahead at that potential $325-375 million deal as the main pending FA. Like Robert, this past offseason might have been best time of move him, but fans would have led with pitchforks and torches after last two post seasons.
  16. Sure. For now. The issue is in the future when you have to choose between Bonemer and Antonacci. At some point, you will have Cholowsky Carlson and Colson that are all from well above average to elite SS's. SS's tend to go to either second base, CF or third base/RF if moved off that position. Tatis for example has gone from SS to GG RF and now 2B. Merrill to CF from SS.
  17. About the same... Maybe Antonacci was actually lower until this last calendar year, comparatively. Neither were surefire Top 100 types because of perceived limitations. Meidroth was around 8 I think on the Boston Top 10 at the time of the trade Poor man's Dustin Pedroia.
  18. Still, pretty substantial difference between a pick in the twenties vs 1-1/2/3.
  19. It feels like every other day there's some stat or tidbit coming across the transom to show just how ridiculous Ohtani is and how regularly he does unprecedented things. Today's might slip under the radar but when you really think about it, it boggles the mind. Wednesday was the seventh time, including the postseason, Ohtani has homered in a game where he also posted a scoreless start. It breaks the record previously held by Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, who was an accomplished hitter tasked with taking his own at-bats. www.si.com
  20. Kelley...unless you meant Joe? Well, just study what the Rays Brewers and Guardians do if all else fails. Seems to be working out just fine.
  21. Only when he's talking about his two real passions, politics and the Cubs. Sometimes playing Devil's Advocate or calling for every young Sox prospect to be brought up immediately at least can lead to somewhat interesting discussions...
  22. Potential. But relying too much on Hagen McDougal Thorpe etc., probably is a mistake too, or at least a bit presumptuous. Do we really believe Davis Martin will finish the year as a Top Ten mlb fWAR pitcher?
  23. Why are we rushing Montgomery? He hasn't had nearly enough time in AA and AAA to overcome some struggles, compared to 75-80% of first round college prospects. Especially considering his missed draft season due to injury.
  24. You're rushing Montgomery a bit. How many combined AA and AAA at bats would he have at that point? And who goes to the bench for Gonzalez? He can only play second SS or DH.
  25. Doesn't have power arm for RF or speed/range/burst for CF. So then he's going to push Antonacci/Hays out this year? And / or Benintendi cut? They won't make that move with AB's numbers in the mid 600s or higher for ops. Seems more logical to trade him for something that's more certain but an older player with established big league credentials. Even then, well that's kind of Peters Hill and Pereira already. Just hold and wait until a team desperately needs a SS 2B. That's what he clearly is. A middle infielder who spots starts at SS and more regularly plays 2B in terms of his tools at the next level.
