The Democratic Party has to lay in the bed they’ve made. People were so desperate for a change, any change, they willingly voted for a charlatan over more of the same.

6. Chicago White Sox, the American League Central these days offers five teams who have allowed more runs than they’ve scored. The AL Central: Where bad baseball goes to live! The 8-18 White Sox have been worse than expected, mainly because they have been dreadful with runners in scoring position, have not translated their home run prowess into scoring and feature a pitching staff that has walked an obscene number of batters, doesn’t strike guys out and stinks at inducing ground balls. Here’s the thing: It could get worse. The White Sox are allowing a home run on just 7.9 percent of flyballs. The league average is 12 percent. This is a transition period for Chicago, one in which they’re here to identify who will play what role as the ascent of their highly rated farm system squeezes jobs. Jose Abreu at first and Yoan Moncada at second are in. Tim Anderson at shortstop and Matt Davidson at DH may have locked themselves into roles, too. Beyond that? Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez and Carson Fulmer are in the biggest tryouts of their lives, because Michael Kopech and Dane Dunning and Dylan Cease are on their way, and so long as his arm holds up, Alec Hansen is on the come. This may be as bad as it gets for the White Sox for a long time. It’s also a place the … https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-ugliness-april-baseball-personified-7-teams-pace-lose-100-plus-games-055003266.html

4/29 Game Thread - White Sox @ Royals
caulfield12 replied to Heads22's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Palka got his hit back they originally ruled an error on Gordon...so 6 for his last 7. Just wish he was a bit better defender in RF. -
See Jose Ramirez, Marwin Gonzalez, Happ/Zobrist, A. Cabrera, Merrifield, etc. Versatility is so important in today’s game...or look at Yolmer, Saladino and Leury, for the Sox. Allows another pitcher on the active roster.
-
Probably it’s related to nearly the same exact set of accusations being leveled at Alexei Ramirez... Have to be careful with the “heady/scrappy overachieving gym rat (white) point guard” and the opposite stereotype with non-white “athletic” players. Phrases in past gamethreads like “mental midget” or boneheaded come to mind. Or the pervasive double standards in the treatment of college QB’s by NFL scouts/execs.

It’s going to take even more than a full season. Look at Avi. For now, he’s the 4th best DH in the AL, which is just fine. Along with Moncada and Anderson, we’ve got 2 of the Top 20 players 25 and younger...3 of the top 40, if you included Delmonico’s 0.0 fWAR so far. Then you have Davidson, Yolmer and the ghost of Avi that are all in their primes. Even Leury just turned 27. Add Jimenez and a big LH bat like Moustakas and you’re really cooking. I’ve seen a lot of stupid stuff in my time as a fan of the Royals. I’ve seen lots and lots of bad hitters become Babe Ruth against these guys. I’ve seen them make lots of mediocre soft-tossing left handers look like annual Cy Young contenders. But this April, I think I’ve seen the single stupidest, weirdest, strangest, and most unbelievable thing I can remember in my lifetime fandom of the Royals. Matt. Freaking. Davidson. He is a .224 career hitter. But after homering twice tonight, he has hit SEVEN home runs in four games at Kauffman Stadium. This ALREADY breaks the record for most home runs hit at Kauffman by an opponent in one year, and it’s April 27th. SEVEN HOME RUNS. He has TWO against everybody else! Per @BHIndepMO on Twitter, he is hitting 164/292/311 with two home runs against everyone else, and he’s hitting over 500 with 7 home runs against the Royals this year. He’s almost out-homering the Royals at Kauffman Stadium this year (7 to 8). I’ve never seen anything like it. ... These two teams are absolutely awful. The White Sox are 3-17 against everybody not named the Royals, and they’re 4-0 against teams named the Royals. Here are your things: The winner was Gregory Infante (1-1). The loser was Tim Hill (0-1). The save went to Joakim Soria (3). Also: Matt Davidson has 7 home runs in 4 games at Kauffman this year. Alex Gordon has 7 home runs in his last 98 games at Kauffman. https://www.royalsreview.com/2018/4/27/17294592/royals-lose-to-white-sox-again-7-4

Reynaldo Lopez is 17th in pitching fWAR...xFIP and FIP numbers are quite high though, 5.00 and 4.22. 2nd in ERA to Jarlin Garcia of the Marlins.
-
Booker continues to display a hot bat, 2/5, 2 SB (7), .375/.991

We will see. bWAR has him at negative defensive numbers (declining 3 consecutive years). fWAR has him at 20th out of 26, with T.Turner, Story, Rosario, Peraza, Galvis and Machado (LAST) behind him. His overall fWAR has him in the 11th-13th range, at 0.6, tied with Lindor and Eduardo Escobar. You can live with that, probably, but I still think he'd be a much more relaxed player offensively if he didn't have to worry about playing SS on an everyday basis. That said, he's kind of taken on the role of being the most vocal leader on the team, and that's a natural responsibility of a SS or catcher (historically), so that's something else to consider as well. I just think it's much easier to come up with a SS these days than a CFer...for what it's worth, this is not specifically a reaction to the fact we have no candidates for that position (internally) for the next 16 months.
-
Oh, I thought that was a direct quote from Steny Hoyer or Rahm...
-
Fine, enjoy the sarcasm attempt. But Tim Anderson will be the starting CFer for the White Sox coming into the 2019 season. Anyone want to take that bet against me?
-
For some reason, I can't type in the same field where I just copied and pasted his defensive numbers...by the way, those were before he made his 6th error tonight. Extrapolated out over a full season, that's going to be in the range of 35-45 errors. Last year he started out at a similar pace and ended up "lowering" it to 28 by the end of the season, but he's still going to be lucky to be a 2.0-2.5 WAR player at the rate he's currently going. Why not simply make him a 3-4.5 WAR centerfielder, let him concentrate more on his offensive game...and find another competent SS? That would allow the White Sox to basically have 2 CFer's in Luis Robert and Anderson to go along with the more limited fielding of Eloy Jimenez. You could also use the leftovers of Delmonico, Basabe, Adolfo and Rutherford to add to your pitching...one or two of those guys could potentially DH. You could also play Davidson at 3B, Sanchez to supersub, etc. Elvis Andrus (30) — can opt out of remaining four years and $58MM Asdrubal Cabrera (33) Eduardo Escobar (30) Freddy Galvis (29) Marwin Gonzalez (30) (don't realistically see him at this position, although technically he can play it) Adeiny Hechavarria (30) Jose Iglesias (29) Manny Machado (26) Jordy Mercer (32) Eduardo Nuñez (32) — $4MM player option with a $2MM buyout Eric Sogard (33) And how many errors, for those who simply said "NO," would be too many or unacceptable to you for his 3rd season in the big leagues? (Yes, we had this same argument nearly 20 years ago over Jose Valentin and Royce Clayton. KW tried to make him (Jose) an outfielder/3B and it was a huge mistake, IMO.)

We're another 30 errors away from that drumbeat REALLY picking up, but it's something we might have to consider. It has worked well when the Marlins/M's moved Dee Gordon to CF, for example. You'd have to play Leury at SS...and probably keep looking for a long-term solution. That would give you a defensive future outfield of Jimenez in LF, Anderson in CF and Luis Robert (they might flip-flop Robert and Anderson at some point, because of Anderson's arm strength for RF). Then you'd have a bunch of pieces like Delmonico, Basabe, Adolfo and Rutherford as either trade bait or DH candidates (along with Davidson, if he doesn't play 1B with Abreu moving to DH). Maybe you make Sanchez the super-sub, sign someone like Moustakas/Donaldson for at least 2-3 years for 3rd...still would have to find a SS long-term.

That's more like the Adam we know and love...
-
What do you know, Engel got a big hit...a blind squirrel will find an acorn every once in a while, right?
-
That was true when we had to rush Daniel Hudson up...and only gave him 3 starts, but no longer the case. Greg (not Balta), you've got to relax about the day to day stuff. Matt Davidson isn't an All-Star just because he rakes against the Royals. It's a long a-- season.
-
Rios was the one who always wanted to play as far back as possible...and had lots of balls drop in front when he was in CF, right? It seems that he was much better in RF, just like Eaton. Whereas Engel is not going to survive at any position in the big leagues, but he might get his Jamey Carroll pension qualification at least.
-
Luckily, escaped from that situation with only 2 runs, one earned. Need to make Abreu a full-time DH when we're actually competing for something.
-
That’s not necessarily true, or the A’s wouldn’t have had Ron Washington invest so much time with him. If Tim Anderson commits 35-40 errors this season, for example...would it also be reasonable to reach the same conclusion, as this is already his third big league season? Imo, if you possess the raw physical tools (Alexei Ramirez yet another example) and are making a combination of physical and mostly mental (concentration) errors...well, we’ve seen in the past how much influence Omar Vizquel had on him later on in his career, so I don’t see how anyone can be totally written off before they reach age 28 (even). Development is not linear, whether it’s offensively or defensively.
-
The Democratic counterpart to Mick Mulvaney...or so it seems. Both national parties are seeing loyalty erode, emblematic of the “insider politics” the article describes in the CO6 race.
-
Then why also use it to assess Moncada’s defensive improvement so far, compared to last year? It’s only applicable when we selectively want it to be? Dickerson is also not known to be a very good defender...it’s partially why he ended up being let go of by the Rays. Perhaps we shouldn’t look at any statistics until the 54 or 60 game mark, but what would be the fun in that? Besides, Ozzie Albies might no longer be a first ballot Hall of Famer at that time.
-
Very simple. Our 2000 #1 BA prospect class produced a LOT less than was originally projected...especially on the pitching side. That's the worst-case scenario. For those penciling in Lopez, Giolito, Kopech, Hansen and Cease to be front-line starters, there's a very high probability only 1 or 2 make it...and maybe one ends up useful in the bullpen. All projections of filling our starting rotation internally should be taken with a grain of salt, unless we can actually control the health of Rodon/Hansen/Giolito/Cease (two TJ surgeries in there already, plus Rodon's past two years) and ALSO plug in yet another high first round draft pick from this year into the equation. Even then, not a sure thing. That's why we should be operating under the assumption at least two members of the next White Sox playoff rotation will come from outside the organization, if not 3. If everything goes like it did for the Cubs or Astros, we get away with just having to add one FA...and then perhaps another big mid-season trade in one of the following years to "put the team over the top."

40 strikeouts in 100 PA for Moncada...right around that mark, had it down to 38.5% Obviously, can't complain about any more results the last week, haha.
