  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) don't get me wrong, you do make a point in what you are saying, but i am of the opinion that Hahn would have been able to make some trades. trades that might have address those needs. i don't know, all this is an assumption and i am very guilty of that. who would really know what was and is going on in the sox fo, esp now with how things are being manage. The problem there is they still would have ended up trading for veterans (since the youngsters were still 1-2 seasons away) and/or been forced to deal Quintana and Montas. Unless they signed Morales, Volquez/Brett Anderson/Chris Young and Nelson Cruz, they'd still be far underwater this year. Or traded for Josh Donaldson.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) That may be, but the Kenny load up with veterans approach doesn't work. They need to change and it looked like they were until December when they completely veered and went into "go for it" mode, brought back the vets and to heck with developing young players. The problem is what young players in Charlotte/Birmingham merited playing time at the big league level...? You would have had Trayce Thompson in LF or Shuck, maybe Erik Johnson or Beck in the rotation, Saladino/Leury instead of Beckham and Bonifacio...Kevan Smith instead of Soto, etc.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) Alvarez is about to be traded by the Pirates. He has two more years until he a fa. If he can still handle third I'd love to buy low there. Except all evidence points to he can't anymore, NL to AL...we've never "coached up" a player to improve defensively in years...on the other hand, a lot of people thought Jhonny Peralta was done five years ago and he's still playing SS on the best team in baseball.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) Houston has a bunch of sorry batting averages at the infield corner positions, but they've gotten a ton of homers out of those batting averages. they need a pitcher. Valbuena and Carter, mostly.
  5. DJ and singing is always an amusing combination.
  6. Trump=Ozzie Robin Ventura/Rick Hahn=Obama
  7. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) Maybe that's what people prefer. Slick professionalism. I'd rather hear Farmio talk about his neighborhood exploits in E.G. and DJ's backhanded complements of everyone on the team. You need both...a balance. And they have those complements to Rooney in Mike Shannon and Al Hrabosky to add local flavor and anecdotes.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) What trade was this? Edwin Jackson...
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 06:28 AM) 2001: 32-26 (.552) 2002: 30-24 (.556) 2003: 29-25 (.537) 2004: 31-30 (.508) 2005: 31-28 (.525) I think you mean since 2006? The early 2000 teams played over .500 ball in August/Sepetmber/October. In comparison to their records in June/July/early August (2003) and April-early August (2005), those records are quite disappointing.... 2001 is one of the few exceptions, when we started 14-29...but that team also peaked in July/August after fighting so hard to get back to the .500 mark.
  10. Of course, the White Sox will keep Danks until next August...just the other day, there was yet ather article about swapping the two, Jackson for Danks. Guess that's off the table.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Kenny is soxtalk's boogeyman If Rick Hahn was from Mexico, someone would be protesting him, too...
  12. Who can explain why almost every single White Sox team since 2000 has played poorly in August and September...? If we're not calling it momentum....either out of spring training or at the end of the year, what phrase should we use? Lack of focus, discipline, preparation, etc.? Or consistently in the first inning this year? Bad luck....umpires still hate the Sox because of Ozzie? The talent sucks but Hahn's doing a simply splendid job in a competing, theoretical universe that we just can't see with our own eyes?
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Momentum in baseball? GTFOH. Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher Then I hope you pop up and disagree every time we hear...."Well, the White Sox could have made a legitimate run at the second wild card....were winners of 9/12, etc., but the All-Star Break came at the most inopportune moment." At any rate, those who witnessed the Jose Paniagua disaster in 2003 might disagree about the Twins seizing momentum from that game on...that was the last victory of the season series, I think. Maybe one more win the final weekend or so when the playoff picture was already decided.
  14. Has Hahn ever actually been the "lead" guy in identifying a talent and bringing him in? Like KW, when he watched Iguchi's videos from Japan and signed him, sight unseen.
  15. Carlos Quentin also struggled with the same foot ailment....and it really sucks, the foot version of an oblique.
  16. The irony is that we're tied for the 9th pick in the first round. We can't even lose in a beneficial way. Purgatory. But seeing Davidson, Anderson, Trayce, Montas, EJ, Beck, Kevan Smith, maybe Hawkins and Danish....what's to lose? We get a better idea where they are for 2016 and improve draft position. The attendance will be brutal from here on out anyway.
  17. Any relation to Jose or Nardi Contreras?
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) Davidson may have been a case of poor scouting. how many scouts do the Sox have in the PCL? It didn't hurt them with Quentin, Eaton or Edwin Jackson. Just a bad decision.
  19. Giants starting to apply some pressure to the Cubs from below. Mets need another bat or two...in the same situation, almost, arrived on the scene a year early.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Congrats greg, you were off by a single run The real question is who bet their house on the Danks start? That would have taken major cojones. Losses in Quintana and Sale starts against KC aren't exactly shockers. And Alex Gordon's out too, so we can't really use the injury excuse, either.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) I would dangle everyone except Rodon, Saladino and Sale Lol. Saladino on the trade market has about as much value as my expired Ant-Man ticket stub. He should be a decent utility player, although we've already needlessly spent $6+ million on that spot with a negative return on investment.
  22. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) What's the difference between pitching Sale the DH and today? Robin is completely different than Ozzie. We all know that. It doesn't mean he doesn't care. He isn't going to embarrass himself the way Ozzie did at times. You can bash Robin for pitching Danks in the DH but he won. He pitches well against the Royals. We have Sale today, and if Shark pitched like he should have and won Friday then we'd be talking about taking 3 of 4 today with Sale pitching. Made me think back to Manuel and the time he skipped Buehrle when we could have swept the Yankees...I think it was on the road, too. Cotts of course got bombed and the forward momentum was emergency-braked.
  23. Who can they trade other than Samardzija? Bonifacio, Beckham and a couple of relievers for spare parts. I suppose they could dump Alexei and put Saladino there, but what fans will buy them competing for anything next year with Sanchez/Saladino up the middle, no 3b, Avi and Flowers starting?
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Hosmer, Infante, and Escobar killed us defensively. And what did you expect? Even the guys coming off the bench like Dyson and Orlando can play some def, too.
  25. Can't beat your division rivals at home in front of the 2005 champs, time to start planning for next season. It was entertaining there at least for two weeks. Back to normal again. What are we now, 16-28 against the Central? Hopefully there are wholesale changes before next season. If we hear about how the All-Star break killed all the team's momentum, it's going to get old in a hurry coming from Hahn. Is our franchise outlook better than Tiger Woods'? Maybe...
