  2. If Viciedo and Semien go on to have careers out there, it will make that Samardzija deal look even worse, lol. All we had to do was keep Viciedo, trade for Donaldson instead and sign Brett Anderson on the cheap.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Another crazy NL central injury situation is what's happened to Cincinnati. Last night, they only started 3 (Votto, Frazier and Bruce) of their main 8 offensive players coming into the season. 2 are out of the year, 1 is out for a few months and 2 have nagging injuries. They're going to unload Cueto after the ASB. And Chapman, who Don Cooper will reconvert into a starter by teaching him the Jason Bere foschball as an offspeed offering.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Damn. This shows true work ethic. Robin offered to fly back to manage on Sunday. Kudos to Hahn for telling him to take the whole weekend off. I wish the people on here would reconsider their position on Robin missing these games. The guy normally works more than 70 hours a week easy during baseball season and gets paid for 40 hours. The guy is going to his daughter's graduation and volunteered to come back for Sunday's game. If he came back Sunday he would be a complete idiot. The Scrooges should just admit they were wrong and wish Robin well. Finally, I repeat: Robin managing the games means nothing. A trained chimp could manage a baseball game. He's an average to rotten manager to begin with. Cut the guy some slack. Admit you were wrong, please! Nobody who has even a minor league contract expects to work less than 80-100 hours a week without overtime. If you treat baseball as a 9 to 5 job as a player or front office person, you won't last long. Of ocourse, the off season is more relaxed but still not typical, either.

  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) The bottom line will also be helped by 3 August weekend games vs. an improving Cubs team, as opposed to two weeknight May games against a similarily bad Cubs team. Yeah, that, Konerko Day and transplanted Tigers' fans.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) And in case anyone was seriously wondering, this is exactly why the rebuild was pushed up a year or two. Except I'm going to guess last year's team will end up being the much more profitable one. They're going to need to average 24,475 from here on out to get to 1.9 million. That's really pushing it if they continue to play around 2-5 games under .500.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) I'm a hater of the term "Hater". Please stop. Let's see. We have haters, bandwagon fans, fickle losers, meatheads and meatballs so far. Any more come to mind?
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Yeah, but they waited until travel conditions were better. Robin should have told his daughter to wait until they were on the west coast. The hatred be spewed is disgusting. Hatred and frustration often get confused or mixed up here. I don't know anyone who hates Robin Ventura, the person. Some, even many, feel he wasn't ready to be a big league manager...that he was in over his head, that the franchise was using him as as "buffer" to protect that position from undue criticism because they knew they were headed into a rebuilding period, whatever. The only problem I have with Ventura is not having the belief he's grown much as a manager (at least as much as we could reasonably have expected, and there's no way for me to prove this "feeling" or debate it)...and that it's not likely he is the right choice to lead this organization to the next level (the same arguments were made about Torborg and Manuel, for example). That said, I respect him for sticking to his guns and probably this whole situation was discussed and agreed upon when he took the job...these predictable moments with his family events/milestones that weren't going to be skipped or missed. If you want to be ANGRY with anyone, you can be mad at the White Sox front office/KW/JR for "allowing" this to happen...but, since they already value "loyalty" over seemingly everything else, I don't think you'll get an apology from any of them for this decision. They can run their organization however they want as long as they sign the paychecks.
  10. I think the situation isn't comparable to basketball, hockey or football, where those individual games have even more importance...and the head coaches/managers, etc., have more of a direct impact on winning or losing compared to those other sports. 3/162 isn't that much. When it's 1/16 or 2/16th's or whatever, that can have more of an impact on a season...that's the price of being a coach in one of those sports, of course (and also why because of fewer games, you would only have to miss 1 or no more than 2 basketball/hockey games due to scheduling). I remember the Iowa fanbase questioning Fran McCaffrey for coaching when/after his son was diagnosed with cancer, and some wishing he would stop coaching because the team was playing so poorly (at the end of 2014) they actually felt his coaching through that situation perhaps made things worse for the team and created a distraction (rather than a rallying point). No matter what decision you make, though, you can guarantee the fan base will not be 100% pleased. Many others felt with him being one of the five highest paid "workers" in the entire state he had a responsibility never to miss a game (and also because their tax dollars were indirectly helping to pay his salary as a state employee, which is different from the coach of a pro team). The thing is...baseball is a sport/game, and you can never get those moments back with your children once they're gone. No matter how highly-paid you are as an executive (or MLB manager), those who never make time for their children or fail to make them a priority risk losing them in the end. Surely his kids would have understood, but they always would have felt they came second to a sport. It's not like he's working for the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI where there's a serial killer running lose because he is off spending time with his kids instead. Nobody's life is on the line.
  11. Plus, the whole thing with drafting Williams' kid led to even more jealousy with Ozzie when they wouldn't give the same type of signing bonus to one of the Guillen kids, and then didn't select the other one. That was the most damaging aspect to the Sox, not the money they wasted on Williams' kid but the rift it helped to widen within the organization.
  12. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...?P=yoan-moncada The key point is differentiating the top Cuban talent from the pretenders. Time will tell how good guys like Soler, Rusney Castillo, Moncada and Yasmany Tomas are...for awhile there, teams like the Cubs were just throwing money at any Cuban (I can't remember the soft-tossing lefty they overvalued, Concepcion maybe?) While Moncada wasn't expected to make it to the majors this season, all of the scouts were projecting something like A-Rod Jr., and he's not even putting up an 800 OPS in Low A whereas A-Rod and Harper were in the majors before that (and that's not even considering concerns about his defense and eventual position). However, if there's ONE thing I am NOT worried about, it's our organization being able to make correct assessments on this particular nation's players. We missed with Viciedo, but hit it big with Contreras, Alexei and Abreu.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) The Blue Jays want pitching, I would trade them Shark for Hoffman and cash straight up. Depends on how desperate they are for cash, and how willing the White Sox are to give it up. We've never really made that type of move, that I can recall...but it would make sense if the Jays looked at it as adding Samardzija and being able to add 1-2 more pieces with the cash sent over by the Sox. Their attendance has been just so-so this year (also had high expectations going in like us), so you'd have to imagine they're not exactly rolling in the dough. What did Forbes say about their profits/losses over the last 2-3 seasons? That would be one area to look at.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) One good month will put them in first place by a long shot. They are already "in it" at 3 games out of the 2nd wild card slot. Depends on your definition of a "good" month. The Royals have the Brewers, Red Sox, Mariners and A's coming up and already went through a 2-9 stretch in late May/early June. You can't assume the Twins, Tigers (especially if Verlander is 100% healthy when he returns) and Indians are all going to play poorly, the White Sox are going to go on something like a 21-8 run...the last time the White Sox had a good winning streak, they gave it all right back. You also have to take into consideration they can't push Rodon too much and the fact that we've been pretty abysmal in key match-ups with AL Central opponents. Maybe playing more games outside of the division will help, but we've still got to actually beat the teams ahead of us and not split season series from here on out because of how far we are below .500 cumulatively within the division. Sure, it's possible....Rodon has to keep it up and Samardzija needs to pitch like he's capable of...well, who knows? But to argue "first place by a long shot," not seeing it. In position as one of the two wild card teams, sure.
  15. http://madamenoire.com/539432/white-women-...ended-from-job/ White woman who provoked the whole episode outed and put on leave by Bank of America. I'm trying to remember if the Fruitvale Station (CA) situation ended up with the kid dying from an "accidental" gunshot or tazer/heart condition???
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) That's messed up. By that utilitarian (the greatest good for the greatest number) type of argument, almost any cop can justify not intervening in any particular situation to save one specific individual. But what if the guy was threatening EVERYONE in the whole subway car with his presence? Or, by not intervening (allowing the suspect to kill the heroic guy), everyone else was consequently put in danger as a result? Sounds like something that a bunch of insurance companies and lawyers developed to protect cities from civil litigation.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) That is still a 14-6 May, removing white sox from the schedule. And that is pretty good I'm pretty sure I read somewhere where they hadn't played many teams over .500, but, with the AL being what it is right now...you'd have to go back and look at the records of the teams when they played as well. At any rate, all the predictive models have them regressing back to the middle or bottom of the pack as the schedule evens out. We'll see.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) You've really gone all-in on the "Melky = Dunn" theory. Obviously no one is going to take Danks' contact as is, but eat the vast majority of the money and someone might take him. And quite frankly, I'd be okay with that because I think Johnson & Beck could exceed his performance going forward. Johnson maybe, but I think expecting anything lower than a 5.25 ERA out of Beck is pushing it.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 05:41 AM) No kidding. And he's supposedly a character. Great, a distant cousin of Kevin Millar mixed with Steve Balboni and Matt Stairs.
  20. Second defensive mistake of the game. God, our catching situation is just beyond awful. Damn you, Roger Bossard!!! That ball goes foul in most stadiums.
  21. Well, we saw a situation where we all expected Bonifacio to bunt and of course he didn't. Poor Quintana.
  22. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Latest post on MLBTR says the Mets might be a good matchup for the a potential Guerrero trade. I would be curious to see if he's really on the trade block and if the Sox could swing something for him. He would be an excellent bat to have at third. I think he's worth anyone in the system not named Anderson, Montas or Fulmer. Also depends on the financials....how much of that contract the Dodgers are willing to offset. Wouldn't imagine they'd want to help out a fellow National League competitor and possibly see him again in the playoffs...would prefer to send him to the AL undoubtedly.
  23. Jurassic World. 3/4 stars. Definitely worth watching, better than the 2 sequels. (Saw in 3D but not IMAX). Annoyingly predictable, but that's why we enjoy mindless summer popcorn movies like this one or San Andreas. Chris Pratt is quickly becoming the "go to" guy in Hollywood, the special effects are much better than 20 years ago (some accuse them of being too frantic, the director is most famous for Safety Not Guaranteed and tries to bring more of a human element that hearkens back with numerous references to the original movies. Motorcycle, Chris Pratt, sprinting dinosaurs: If you require more than that out of a movie, you're being unreasonable. Richard Roeper One of the best parts of this movie is the John Williams score...just hearing that music again, and reminiscing about the first Jurassic Park movie and the sense of wonderment about the universe created in that film was pretty darned cool to revisit.
  24. More mental mistakes. How many clean games have we had defensively this year? Less than 5?
  25. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Are we expecting Hickman to sign? I doubt it, but great pick if so. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/video/v15034...38897-807289403 You'd have to think so...he was with the White Sox ACE program until the age of 17, so you know he's comfortable with the organization.
