Refuse to pay tip ~ Family locked in restaurant
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 27, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) You're paying for a service. Of course you should be discounted if you pick the food up yourself. But there are many countries where they offer free delivery in order to grow market share and encourage ordering that might not otherwise take place. Remember all those internet start-ups in the 90's that promised to deliver item XYZ (like groceries) to your home for no charge, or amazon.com not charging for delivery (service) if the order was above a certain amount. Part of it's marketing, too. If they didn't offer free delivery in some of these countries, they'd lose customers. It all depends on your perspective. Like here in China, there are no tips, or tips only at 4-5 star hotels in the biggest, most international cities. Of course, in the process of providing free delivery, they do that on the backs of employees making $1.25-2.50 USD per hour typically, while the food itself costs about 75-80% of what it would in the US.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Sale and Moore will be a really good matchup. Moore's had issues getting out of the 5th inning this year. Humber better come out and have his stuff, Shields is tough. Cobb and Quintana seems like a wash. What's the early VEGAS over/under for RUNS SCORED in the Noesi/Floyd match-up, lol? Probably be a 1-0 shutout by one team or the other. Kind of sucks that Humber won't get to face the M's again when he has so much confidence going against them. Then again, they'd probably be keyed up to face him and win 7-0 going away, baseball's strange like that.

White Sox Winner thread!
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 27, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) During the insane 19-4 stretch or whatever it was, I'm sure there were at least 3 sweeps in there. 26-5 We had individual streaks within that stretch of 11-0 and 9-0. Sweeps were @ Pittsburgh, @ Washington, ATL (when the Braves were one of the best teams in the majors), LAA (4 game sweep) and the Royals. So five series sweeps in basically one month, including a 4 gamer. Of course, we won the first game against the Twins (high water mark) and proceeded to lose 3 in a row (July 16th-18th horror apocalypse starring Jenks, to later to be followed by Thornton/Thome).

5/27 Games
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 27, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) Then he's just not cut out for the White Sox. He would be the first "Russian" major league baseball player, if he makes it. He's the son of first-generation Russian immigrants. Noticed the first Brazilian-born player made it, Yan Gomes of the Blue Jays was born in Sao Paulo. Not related to our own dearly-beloved Anderson Gomes, he of the fastest time to 1B in recorded history but not the ability to hit the ball to get there.

Jeff "Mickey" DA MANto is freaking amazing
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) People that are giving Manto credit should be ready to support him when the bats go dead. Royals fans who sang Seitzer's praises last year now want him fired TODAY. It's one or the other. you are either good or not good. They shouldn't have traded Melky Cabrera for Sanchez. Hosmer's coming around (still has a horrific BABIP), and Gordon's having a down season so far, but Moustakas has actually made significant progress from how bad he looked last season. Butler's evolved into one of the best hitters in the AL, as predicted for many years by Harrelson and many others. They've also suffered a significant number of injuries, like Lorenzo Cain, for example. Pitching is more the Royals' main problem, and always has been. Outside of that horrific start, they've played above .500 baseball against good competition, it's just that season has become irrelevant to many because of the bad streak....just like the White Sox suffered early last season to knock them out of competition.

Rays vs White Sox 2:10 CST
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) Matt Moore can barley get through 5 innings. We'll see if this trend continues tomorrow. Reminds everyone to sit down, relax, strap it down and enjoy the game with an ice-cold brew. Are you an advertising exec putting subliminal messages into SoxTalk?
-
You're KW, what next?
So we should have a board-wide moratorium on any trade conjecture or any consideration of whether this team will be able to compete or not until roughly the middle of July? That would wipe out about half of SoxTalk, except Balta in the Trayvon Martin thread, "can you be a good Samaritan without believing in God?" and appropriate tipping habits from various perspectives. By definition, aren't those who now think this team is miraculously competitive or is built to win in 2012 overreacting? Or are those who are holding out for the rebuild and waiting for the inevitable cold streak again being negative "dark clouds" flying in the face of Mr. Saint's relentless gauntlet throwdown/wrestling challenge that the White Sox are actually a dynasty evolving into reality as we speak?

Jeff "Mickey" DA MANto is freaking amazing
If Ozzie Guillen was still the manager, they'd be in full "lift and pull" mode. Actually, the Indians' announcers noticed this right away. Said the White Sox were making a concerted effort to take outside pitches and go with them and didn't fall away from that plan throughout the entire series. That they looked like they approached the plate with a plan, from a line-up wide perspective, almost to the point where they seemed to know what pitches were coming when and exactly what to do with them. Were actually quite impressed we didn't fall into our usual bad habits...that the most consistent thing with our approach was taking almost every pitch back up the middle or hitting it back from where it was pitched.

You're KW, what next?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) If I am KW, I read this thread and irrationally overreact and attempt to gain full value for every player in the entire organization and then consider pretty much every angle from the Cubs attendance and result to the overall Forbes value of the team. Ready. Set. Go! So basically you have nothing to add, besides perhaps mocking me indirectly (or directly if you want to credit most with a modicum of intelligence)? Where did I suggest doing anything? I pointed out the reasons they PROBABLY won't do anything, and you're not going to get as much for Floyd now anyways until when he goes on one of his patented hot streaks. What players did I suggest trading besides POSSIBLY Thornton, Floyd and Crain? Last time, I checked, I was wholeheartedly against the idea of trading Viciedo. You can search/check the entire history of this board from November of 2008 and you'll never see me saying such a thing. And improving the worst bench in the major leagues is a bad thing? Not worth discussion or thinking about? There's nothing interesting at all about the team being in the position they are now when 2 weeks ago NEARLY EVERY SINGLE THREAD talked about this team in terms of the future and rebuilding? Isn't trading those three players and clearing their contracts for younger prospects to come exactly the kind of move a rebuilding team SHOULD make? At a certain point, you don't think KW's starting to believe this team, as CURRENTLY CONSTRUCTED with a few additions, could actually WIN NOW? Wasn't the whole theme of the entire offseason constructing a team for 2013, 2014 and beyond? Doesn't the attendance certain reflect that belief in the fanbase? You truly believe what the Cubs are doing (positively and negatively) has absolutely no effect on the White Sox? What about KW's quotes once upon a time about making this a "White Sox town?" Just bold talk? The Cubs are going to finish with the worst or second worst record in the major leagues, and nobody's viewing this now (2012) as a golden opportunity? You really believe the White Sox are so cash poor they have no money to make an acquisition? If the cost/benefit of trading Gavin Floyd for a prospect and opening up that spot in the rotation for one of our young starters is such a clear decision, I bet you'd have nearly universal approval for it. But I would imagine if it was put to a poll, no more than 50% of the board would be for this move (despite three pretty much disastrous starts in a row), because they know what pieces in our minor league system we'd use to replace him, let's say Dylan Axelrod. That's not an issue worthy of debate and consideration?

White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
That does it. Can never talk about any Tigers game for the rest of the season. Cabrera homer to CF on an 0-2 pitch...Tigers now up by 1.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
3rd in AL runs scored, lol. 9 RBI's this weekend, 7 homers in 13 games. Should have had 10 RBI's had McEwing sent Konerko on a strange play to Duncan in LF. 25 RBI's now for Viciedo. Not too long ago, he had 3 homers and 5 RBI's.

But still averaging 37,000 tickets sold, lol.

White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
TB comes back from down 1 in the 9th against the Red Sox, inexplicable Sean Rodriguez 2 run homer. Rays will be in first place tie when we face them tmrw. C'mon Dayan, grand salami here, please. RA Dickey is 7-1, had a 3 hitter today and wrote a book. Good year for him.

White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
Infield in? Really? With Konerko hitting? WHAT?

White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
43rd at bat with RISP. In a 3 game series. 21 hits. C'mon, Paulie!
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
Beckham up over 220 now, same with Ramirez. 4 hits. First four hit game in a LONG time.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
7 hits and 6 RBI's by Konerko this weekend. Alexei has 6 hits, too. And AJ had the day off, he had 4 hits and 3 RBI's and a homer. Would be their first five game winning streak of the season.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) Something's not right with Ubaldo. Jimenez's ERA on the road was 7.65 coming into today. Now 9.00 At Progressive, a little over 3. And they've got 18/27 games on the road in June. They do get to face the Twins and Royals this week at home, but KC just took 2/3 from the Orioles in BALT. I refuse to give the Twins/Tigers score because I always jinx it. So by not mentioning the score, the Twins will definitely win, haha.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
Tigers only scored 6 runs all last weekend against the Indians. Opposite field and up the middle hitting has been the most impressive result of the 3 games, along with the amazing hitting with RISP.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
When's the last time the White Sox had back-to-back triples in a game? 4 runs scored on Jimenez on walks and HBP. Leading baseball in walks and not looking like the best trade in Indians history at the moment.

White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
Indians' announcers really impressed with Jones and how the White Sox have stockpiled so many arms. Noted the four closers already in one season (and that's not counting Nathan, who might have the best stuff overall) and how they've all seemingly settled into their appropriate roles. Yack-a-tow. Ramirez killt that ball. Everyone in our line-up is dangerous for the first time since 2008.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
WHITE SOX are now one run behind the Baltimore Orioles for 3rd in the AL. Craziness. Ironic to hear the Indians' announcers complaining about White Sox attendance vis a vis the Cubs, especially after the recent Chris Perez rant about how the Indians lost Beltre to the Cardinals because of that one factor.
-
White Sox vs Indians 1:10 CST
Batting .500 with RISP this weekend. An incredible 21-42. We've gone weeks at a time without 21 hits with RISP since 2009. Konerko at .399, and should be well over it. That 21-42 will carry out the team statistics for quite some time as far as hitting with RISP. Too bad we couldn't save some of those for later. Two triples, pair of doubles and a single given up by Ascensio. Already 11 runs surrendered by the CLE bullpen, could have easily been 13. And the Cubs are going to lose again, lol.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Floyd got in deep s*** today because he couldn't get Marson and Diaz out. Those two suck and they've jump started every rally so far. And he's never gotten Damon out in his entire career. 12/22 coming into today. The DP ball that Lopez hit into when the game was tied 4-4 with bases loaded and after Beckham botched a surefire DP definitely looks like the key play of the game at this point. But stay tuned. Konerko should be hitting .400! Between Dunn's baserunning, Hudson's error, Beckham's botched ball, Viciedo and DeAza on the basepaths, just an absolutely crazy game.
