It's not easy work, that's for sure. I've seen 185 pounders thrown 20-30 feet up into the air and almost blown away in the high gale force winds, barely holding on for life...and baked in the August humidity as you could see all the colors of the spectrum emanating from the tarp in waves, the sun beating down mercilessly just minutes after a late afternoon deluge, after the sky had almost turned pitch black with threatening rain clouds.

The biggest mistake was the Mookie Betts trade...they should have invested all their money into him and cast the one-dimensional Devers aside, if forced to choose between those two and Bogaerts, how has been a big disappointment so far in SD. They have the Top 15 in all of MiLB trio of Campbell-Anthony-Mayer and broke in a bunch of youngsters last year in Rafaela, Abreu and then Duran had a breakout season as well. It's all going to come down down to Trevor Story's health, starting pitching (health/effectiveness) and how long Alex Bregman can remain one of the best 3B in the majors.

Teel and Quero look/ed great. Elko is probably a AAAA hitter. Meidroth has started out well, in addition. Eventually Ramos will be there, too.

Even Craig James and Eric Dickerson would be disappointed...

Braden Montgomery is at least two years away...and is the closest to a "future star" with Colson's prospect status fading by the week. Of course, you're referring to Teel and Quero's looming presence in Charlotte as an "alignment," whatever that even means. It's basically all on the Big 3 starters, along with Burke and now Shane Smith...to transform the franchise into a .500ish/competitive team. We don't even have a starting pitching niche/depth advantage with all the UCL injuries that have occurred over the past 12 months.

If they REALLY want to dump Benintendi's contract, another team's going to have to see him playing LF capably to make that move for him IMO...and, since he's still under terms for three more seasons, it's not quite as simple as snapping one's fingers and moving him there (see all the arguments for Eloy DHing, for example, that never ultimately "won" out).

The problem is with Slater Taylor Robert Jankowski and Tauchman rostered...it's NOT yet clear he even WOULD play. In theory, they'd have to release one of Venable's favorites from when he was the bench coach in Texas with Bochy. We can argue that he SHOULD get more playing time over all those guys, other than Robert, but that's neither here nor there.

He also seemed to struggle turning double plays. Which is probably because he played 5-6 different positions in the spring and hasn't worked a whole lot with Amaya...that chemistry is something you only develop playing day after day with someone for weeks at a time, not just getting thrown out there in 30's and 40's temperatures in April across the Midwest and Rust Belt.

I wouldn't count on it. There are a lot fewer veterans down in the pen, and Clevinger's now the closer, more or less. That's a recipe for disaster, if ever there was one. Booser looked like the best LHP down in the pen coming into the season, and he's been the shakiest.

The problem is we still don't have a natural SS with that arrangement. You're going to end up playing Baldwin, Sosa or Meidroth there...or Maton, who's now primarily a 2B/OF. Rojas is a great 3B, a very good 2B and an average big league SS...maybe a touch over average.

How? Their best trade candidate IS a hitter...arguably the best hitter on the team in Robert, Jr. Eventually we'll see Teel and Quero and Meidroth, but it's not like there are immediate run producers out there? Tellez or Rizzo over Vaughn at 1B? Would that really change anything?

This team was only designed with not losing 121 games again in mind. It will be pretty close.

He definitely was rushed last year...time in the minors with regular at bats might end up being the solution, but these are all knee jerk reactions to one series.

Sure I guess you can switch him for Meidroth but just cosmetic changes to the narrative until Teel and Quero are recalled.
