  1. So do you want to give Colson Montgomery an extension now? For how much? In the first half of the season, he was a Top 5 milb SS. Now he's seemingly replaceable. If Murakami hadn't gotten hurt and now had 45+ homers with a .240+ average...what would the extension numbers be? Well, currently he's a player who has had major injuries two seasons in a row. You also have to weigh his relative performance vs. Vargas, signing a Top FA pitcher, etc. The Sox are not suddenly SD that had 9 $100+ million contracts on the books simultaneously. They can't just throw money at everyone. And they also have Bonemer and Cholowsky coming on offense. Not to mention their best defensive IF is with Vargas at first...so how much is any full time DH not named Yordan Alvarez or Ohtani actually worth? OFC, Murakami's in his prime and comes with loads of marketing potential attached. So just like a stock rises and falls in value...so does a player's future value. That there's not a complicated MIT Cal Tech AI-driven valuation formula that provides a precise number doesn't mean the Sox front office doesn't have a constantly evolving number for how much he's worth to the franchise. And it's STILLcomplicated...because 29 other teams miscalculated his actual value and looked like idiots the first half of the season.
  2. Not sure fondly is the right word for most of the 70s and 80s. As a Sox fan, it was "our" stadium, but it never became part of the national fabric like Fenway, Yankee, Wrigley, Dodger Stadium etc. I guess it is a totally different feeling for those who grew up in the 50s and 60s, when there were so many competitive Sox teams.
  3. They were dead as soon as Quentin went out...playing in that dome.
  4. Sale’s run with the Braves has pushed his S-JAWS past 2025 Hall of Fame inductee CC Sabathia (50.8). Sale won’t catch any of the big four from this era — Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Max Scherzer, the last of whom may be the only one active after this season — but he’s the only other active or recently retired starter with an S-JAWS above 45.0. As voters scramble to recalibrate their Hall of Fame standards for starting pitchers in an age of diminished workloads, Sale has likely punched his ticket to Cooperstown. fgraphs
  5. If there are weaknesses on the Sox in terms of position players...they're corner outfield, catcher and DH related. That's relative to expected big league average production from those spots...Antonacci is due to his defense and lack of HR power, although it has improved over time. Ofc those are two rookies and then you have the Benintendi contract...he's been okay at DH but have needed Grichuk to level up against lefties (for Ant/Benintendi). Recently, Colson and Mune, but they're not being replaced anytime soon.

  9. "Mis" kind of makes a big difference...when you have the clear best pitcher in baseball. Cleveland is best described as a solid rotation and pen and an offense starting to find itself gsin versus lesser competition.

  11. "Born in Winkler, Manitoba, about 90 minutes southwest of Winnipeg, at 16 years old Peters made the roughly 13-hour trip west to attend the Dawgs Baseball Academy in Okotoks, Alberta, just south of Calgary. Peters said it was about that time that he realized he might get to play professional baseball someday. “I think it started just before I moved out, I heard about this guy at Okotoks that was probably going to get drafted out of high school, his name was Clayton Keyes. And sure enough, he did. He turned it down and went to college, but that’s how I got motivated. I was like, ‘I want to do that.’ It didn’t happen in high school for me, so I had to take a little longer path, but it was a good path,” Peters said. Peters went undrafted out of high school, but his baseball story continued. He started his college career at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, then transferred to Southern Illinois University before the Brewers selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. Along the way, he returned to Okotoks to play for the program’s summer college league team in the Western Canadian League in 2019." MiLB.comT-Rat Talk: Tristan PetersEvery professional baseball player follows their own unique path, but Timber Rattlers outfielder Tristan Peters’ route to the Midwest League covered more miles than most.
  12. Trading him off this second half poor spell would be criminal for a small market team.
  13. "Tristan Peters of Winkler, Manitoba made history this month, becoming only the second Canadian to hit for the cycle in modern MLB!" Old news...but forgot he was Canadian. At least he won't be as upset about renaming of Ontario to "Lake America" since he's from the western provinces.
  14. He's missed so much time this year...his leadership is just as impt as a likely 550-625 ops.

  16. www.mlb.com › news › tristan-peters-hit... 8小时前 · Since he once played for the Savannah Bananas, he has been given the moniker of “Bananas Bonds” during his recent power surge. Or should it be Banana Bonds for his banana bat from Players' Weekend?... White Sox Finance Bro Vest Giveaway is Sept. 5! Peters matched the franchise record set by seven players on eight previous occasions for most consecutive games with a homer. That list includes Munetaka Murakami this season, Paul Konerko (2017), Carlos Lee (’17), A.J. Pierzynski (’12), Frank Thomas (twice in 1994), Ron Kittle (’83) and Greg Luzinski (’83). The MLB record for consecutive games with a homer is eight, shared by Ken Griffey Jr. (July 20-28, 1993), Don Mattingly (July 8-18, 1987) and Dale Long (May 19-28, 1956). They probably aren’t the exact names that Peters expected to share the stage with when he was fighting for one of the final roster spots back in Glendale, Arizona, this Spring Training. “That’s crazy,” Peters said of the record. “I try not to get caught up too much in that, but obviously it’s out there, and I’ve seen it and thought about it a little bit.” “It's amazing. I don't know what words there are for what he's doing,” White Sox manager Will Venable said. “Really, really special. Really cool to watch. And obviously big for us today, what he did and the rest of the offense.” With both Peters and Murakami achieving the feat this year, the White Sox are the first team since at least 1900 to have two rookies with a home run streak of five or more games in a single season. The five-game streak ties the longest by an MLB rookie, which has been done 13 times previously, including twice by other White Sox rookies: Murakami this season and Kittle in 1983, according to Elias Sports. If it’s possible, Peters feels better than he did before the All-Star break. “I’m lifting the ball a little better now,” Peters said. “I’m just seeing the ball even better.”
  17. Had same problems remaining healthy with the Yankees/Rays milb systems.
  18. A lot depends on the next two months and how much Boyer believes a long term deal could be monetized with Japanese corporate sponsors. The big unknown is where he'd be now if he hadn't missed those 6 weeks in the middle of the season. If one had to choose today, the priority would probably be Vargas, but it all depends on what the marketing department thinks. There's the wild card. Also, whether they could leverage Mune to sign another NPB star like Sato...for now, the timing's just off to sign FA S.Suzuki with Benintendi's looming last season...Shota Imanaga, maybe? Of course, Sato going to the Yankees Mets Phillies Red Sox Cubs becomes even likelier with Mark Walter's financial issues with the Dodgers. There's even the possibility of Ohtani leaving the Dodgers if that team is also sold to cover losses in the Guggenheim/TWG insurance portfolio.

  21. We will see how he deals with much harder to make plays...time is running out on milb. With AFL, really tough with the AZ mid-afteroon sky but don't they also mix in some night games? Can't remember.
  22. https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-prospect-caleb-bonemer-makes-debut-in-center-field They claim he's not getting called up to Chicago this year...off he thought CF change was in AFL and not in less than a week. Said he's never played in the outfield before except shagging during BP.
  23. He's probably lower in value than Nick Kurtz would be signing a long term extension for right now. I was thinking closer to $250 million getting chopped down. The struggles of Guerrero Jr. and Devers also highlight dangers of signing corner players whose value is predominantly based on offense. Jordan Alvarez seems to be the one major exception to the rule, along with Ohtani.
  24. Kaima Taira. Position: Pitcher. Bats: Left • Throws: Right. 5-8, 209lb (173cm, 94kg). Born: November 15, 1999 That would be the shortest MLB starter since Marcus Stroman at 5'7".
