(Also, don't look to find Andrew Vaughn at this moment in time, haha.) Jose Rodriguez (struggling still), Vladdy Jr., Bichette, Y.Alvarez, Corbin Carroll, Rutschman, Kelenic, Outman, Tatis, Jr., Witt, Jr., Hoerner...some of the more familiar names.

2023: MLB news not AL Central-related

Chicago's very own NIcky Lopez, back from his appendectomy, triple/walk/run so far against DET.

That's all fine and good, but Scholtens is going to get destroyed at some point by the better offenses. And while that works well for the Rays or Dodgers with their pitching depth, almost none of the relievers on our current major league team are the types to go 2-3+ innings. You could try it with Lambert, MIddleton or Santos, but the results would be mixed at best. AA/AAA are virtually barren wastelands.
-
Is there any way to do that with the players originally signed/drafted by the Sox? Essentially, Escobar, Bassitt, Semien, Tatis, Jr., Anderson, Devenski, Sale, Abreu, etc. Q would have to be counted with the Mets or Yankees there.
-
Not off by too far. Apparently the plan was always to limit Lambert from exposing Scholtens to the Top 3-4-5 hitters by having him pitch just one inning. That strategic gambit actually worked out quite well.

Greg cares about those traditional counting stars at least.

Which will provide yet another Rick Hahn reason to never go for it... Other than Machado massovely underperforming and being out now... the real problem is similar to the White Sox where they're just not getting enough from the bottom of the order and the worst RISP in over 100 years in MLB, under .200 in fact. Nola, Grisham, Cruz, Kim, Carpenter, Azocar, Engel, Dixon have all sucked. Losing Campusano as back up catcher also has had a big impact. The starting pitching doesn't have a dominant guy like Musgrove and Snell second half in 2022. Tatis is doing okay and surprisingly good in RF, but striking out way too much... which comes from nearly 600 days with no big league at-bats after multiple offseason surgeries on wrist and shoulder. There's one relatively easy escape valve... which is putting Soto back on the market again, and maybe Hader if they're out of the WC. That said, Preller and Melvin both being gone seems inevitable if they miss the postseason.

Calling out the Guardians' offense reminds one of all those years Minny, Cleveland and KC were underrated and arguably had less talent but much better team cohesiveness.

And That's a White Sox Sweep !!

2011 (83-79) Cards or whatever it was won the WS...at most they had 84-85 wins. Or 19-31 Nationals in more recent years. There was a Peavy-led Padres team that made it at barely over .500 as well. -

Check again. They were a very potent offense last year because of hitting with RISP (especially at home) and having one of the best... certainly most aggressive teams in terms of base running. Then their speed/range/fielding and bullpen. Pretty much every single player other than Straw is worse than 2022. Naylor Gimenez Gonzalez and Rosario nothing like their 2022 versions. Kwan in worse too. Josh Bell hasn't given them the power bat they needed so desperately, and rookies like Arias Brennan Rocchio and Freemam simply aren't ready yet. -
Last time we had any real rotation depth was 2006 when we added Javy in the offseason and Brandon McCarthy was the 6th. Daniel Hudson then comes along and they quickly dump him for the emigmatic Edwin Jackson.
-
It would be nice to give him the motivation against his former team to go out and win a spot on the roster...at least temporarily...as the long man. Don't really have that defined swing man in the pen right now.

The majority of teams in baseball are now on their 7th and 8th starters already. The Dodgers' AA and AAA teams might have more starting pitching talent and depth than the Twins Sox Royals and Tigers combined together.
