Well trading him now makes no sense...but the timing to rebuild the rotation going into 2024 and then again 2-3 years from now is really suboptimal. That's simply because every year you wait things out with Cease and Kopech decreases their trade value pretty dramatically. Giolito is arguably #5 on the current FA list. Urias and especially Snell have been bad. Nola's the only other guy and he might be just as risky as Lucas because his price will be even higher based on his more recent success coming into 2023.

Last in the AL East...Toronto and Boston tied for fourth at 25-20...would put them at first by 1/2 game over the Twins in the Central. All four Central teams other than Minny with negative RS/RA differentials. Oakland at -165 the only other AL team in negative territory. As a result of tonight's final, Sox passed KC for 28th in RS/RA lol... -61 to -64. Great game by Kopech... and Graveman.

The problem now is the limited control over Cease and Kopech if they go into another rebuild...they can hardly not that with how bad the division is, though. It also risks getting limited ROI when they're holding onto some of these vets due in pinning their hopes on the top three Central teams falling back to them.

Is it better to provide 4-5 really strong seasons and a WS or year after year of nagging injuries? Comparing a debilitating back surgery requiring life altering spinal fusion surgery versus never hitting your peak while collecting $24-25 million per year? The predictable decline over the last two+ seasons of Grandal's constant injuries? Jimenez constantly on the IL? Joe Crede will always to be remembered fondly and always have it everything he had for the good of the team. He more often that not played on winning teams as well. Ultimately, the core members of the rebuild will continue to be associated with unfufilled promise and questions about their willingness to put team over self. And at least Crede (and Uribe) could drive the runner in from third base and less than two outs on a consistent basis. These last two years of Sox teams are almost allergic to driving in RISP.

This is exactly the opposite of how TB operates. Walls is a superior fielder, surprisingly pesky hitter and young/cheap. They'd want nothing to do with a one year rental... certainly not for Walls.
