  1. The thing that sucks is that we're only 2 games behind the Guardians now...but it seems like we're already gifting them a win (to gain back some needed momentum for CLE) after getting creamed by the Mets. Have to hope the hitters can take down Gaddis and keep things relatively close until the late innings.
  2. He has already been overused in the early season and MIGHT be able to go 2 innings max...but then you're still probably better off going with a minor leaguer who could be sacrificed to preserve the pen and perhaps give you 3-4 innings instead. Tough call, either way.
  3. Hahn's ego and the fact the cupboard will be so bare even with trades for the likes of Giolito and Anderson that nobody will want to take the GM job in Chicago. They ultimately will end up with a late Top Tenish draft pick, but certainly not guys that will make huge and immediate impacts like the four Himes high picks in the mid to late 80s. Unless they keep drafting relievers in the first...
  4. Is Kuntz still the Royals' outfield coach? Melendez has made a pretty amazing transition to RF from catcher... just like Gordon from 3B to RF.
  5. Benintendi almost up to .700 finally. .692. Guardians in the process of falling to 20-25. Tigers will be 2 or 4 under. Two out hitting... what the heck? White Sox playing better or competition just bad? A little of both perhaps.
  6. Romy shooting up like rocket to .175. Anderson 0.99 OPS points ahead of Romy. 582 to 483.
  7. Gaddis/TBD Cease/LT Allen Kopech/Quantrill the pitching matchups for next series. Hurts to see Dunning at 4-0 and a 1.69 ERA in the box score right next to Sox/TBD tmrw.
  8. At least we haven't invested $200 million into Abreu and Anderson... The flip side is nothing of value in terms of talent coming into the organization for those previously valuable assets.
  9. Bullpen gets three innings to cover again today. Lynn approaching the point where he might have some/limited trade value... then again, the Central is not exactly filled with offensive powerhouses from top to bottom like the East.
  10. Who would have imagined Chris Bassitt one day would have a $21 million per season price tag?
  11. “With the 40-game quarter pole having just been passed, we are starting to get a good idea as to where this baseball season is headed. Things are suddenly looking up in New York for Yankees and Mets. The Rays are good but maybe not as good as they’ve seemed. The rise of the Rangers in Texas looks real, the Padre malaise in San Diego is mystifying, and the balanced schedule has exposed the great divide between the good teams and the really bad ones in places like Oakland, Washington, Kansas City, Detroit, Colorado and Cincinnati.” https://sports.yahoo.com/bill-madden-yankees-offense-still-100000471.html Interesting the White Sox weren’t included along with those six other teams…Detroit is getting closer to .500 by the week.
  12. Why should the Sox spend over $185, let alone $200 million, when you just have to look at the Mets, Padres, Phillies, Angels, Cardinals, Red Sox, Mariners and Blue Jays to see where that spending has gotten them collectively? (Unless you are the Dodgers, Braves and Yankees, that is. Houston, to a lesser extent, as they are once again a mid tier payroll.) There's only ONE team, the Rangers, and that's mostly without deGrom... who have pretty much spent their way into playoff position as of today. Out of 12 current teams positioned for playoff spots..SEVEN are in the bottom half of MLB payrolls. In fact, six are in the Bottom 10, with Minnesota the only team in the 16-20 range. Those six teams would be Miami AZ Milwaukee Pittsburgh Baltimore and TB. Great for baseball, overall...not so much for the future of the Sox, since they have proven incapable of running a mid tier payroll and successfully competing for much of the last decade...and now it's quite obvious there will be even less pressure to spend, if that's possible.
  13. They just have to play Sheets until they are completely out of it. Then bring back Colas in the second half and give him another shot at playing everyday.
  14. Benintendi has a slightly better arm than Pods and Pierre. We tried this last year with Pollock and learned he's actually better in CF than right.
  15. 90-95% of the time the switch occurs from middle infield to corners. He doesn't have the range or lateral quickness and can't even imagine him on double play turns coming across bag and throwing back across his body. Bad bad bad idea.
  16. "The scouting report on Frazier was no secret to the Yankees when they acquired him from the Cleveland Indians. He’s athletic. His hands are lightning-fast. He’s also … really not good on defense. After his first stint at the major league level, the word “liability” got thrown around so much, it almost negated anything he could’ve possibly achieved offensively." yanksgoyard.com He was once more of a CFer coming up... and definitely doesn't have a RF arm. Of course, that didn't stop them from playing Pollock Sheets Vaughn Eloy etc. from being sent out there, either.
  17. They already gave up on this idea after trying it in the minors...
