Morel is kind of a weird case for me. I had him a little big higher than most, but I don't think he is great prospect. He is still in his first full pro season and at Winston-Salem so that is notable, but nothing in his tools or production makes me think I should expect a lot more. That said, a little below his current production in the Majors in a few years with the defense he supposedly plays could be useful. As for Viciedo, I love him. He is struggling now and was overhyped in terms of Major League readiness, but still remains one of the best prospects for his age. His bat speed is still damn good and he has shown he can hit power to the opposite field. He needs to improve no doubt, but he is 20. I don't see why he wouldn't get a lot better and he has shown improvement as the season has gone on. It's not like he has had this same line all season. He is getting better, even if slowly. A 21 year-old that mashes AA is usually a big prospect and I don't see why he couldn't do that next year if the Sox have him repeat.

The Kyle Bellamy train keeps rolling.

That's really cool. I can barely see anything in those sometimes, but this one was pretty clear. Very cool. Congrats! PS, hilarious sig. I cracked up at that. Gotta be able to laugh at yourself!

Screw honor. There is no honor in wearing a Cubs hat. I would probably have to go, but it's a ridiculous scenario. Man, I really would hate that. I guess if it's only a hat I would pay extra money to create a shirt that says, "I only wore this hat to get my friend's ticket. F the Cubs."

Borderline non-prospect. Hilarious.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) wikipedia lied to me once again.... or they terribly mis-phrased what they were saying. Technically undrafted is correct. It just means he wasn't drafted, which is true.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) I didn't even know players in Europe could get drafted. They can't.

Phil Rogers wrote an article on Dayan. It's from the Futures Game, Flowers gets a mention as well. I was especially interested in this part... Did Rogers forget to write 'said Viciedo in Spanish' or 'through a translator' or have we been mistaken on Dayan's ability to speak English?

That lineup would struggle a lot.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) By the way, Danks made a spectacular running diving catch in right center to save a double or triple. He's so good in center. I can't wait to see him play the position again. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) His defense was supposed to what made him a top pick. Even at the draft his offense was going to be what he needed to work on. Actually, his position was what made him a top pick. His defense is average.

Former Sox Minor League Daniel Cortes Traded to M's
danman31 replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
The upside of Cortes is a setup man and the odds of that seem lower than they did. I don't think he's worth getting up in arms. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) I actually think Kroeger could hit better than Fields right now probably I think you might be the only one. Kroeger has a sub 800 OPS in AAA. Why the love?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Good GOD that is a s*** deal for Kansas City! They gave up an asset for someone who sucks and is owed too much money? Yeah Seattle is going to pay some, but how much does it cost to sign an Adam Everett or Cesar Izturis every year? Wow, if Kenny made that deal he'd be roasted here. Attaboy, Dayton Moore! Daniel Cortes is repeating AA with mediocre numbers. It's hard to call him much of an asset. You are way off your rocker to be up in arms over this move. -

danman31 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
It's funny that Cortes was given the pitcher of the year award in the organization and then repeated AA. I wouldn't call him a non-prospect yet, but it looks like the Sox didn't lose much there. -
On the Carter topic, I think you can make a case either way. He has done very well, but he isn't overwhelming the league. Even tonight with ridiculous numbers he gave up 4 earned runs. It really is more about your philosophy regarding promotions. Whether or not you want to rush a guy or take it slow is a matter of opinion. Carter is on the line where you could be right for either.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Torres is in. I assume he'll go four innings. If he doesn't, maybe the Sox are looking at Torres as a possible bullpen option. Not that there is currently any room right now though.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Disagree, if Yonder Alonso can be a top 15 prospect, and Lars Anderson a top 50 prospect, then Flowers has to be considered a top 50 prospect regardless of 1B/C. In fact, Danks is putting up similar numbers as Alonso at #15. Lars Anderson, 21, AA, .260, 8 HR 41 RBI, .353 OBP, .755 OPS Yonder Alonso, 22, A/AA, .287, 8 HR, 45 RBI, .360 OBP, .830 OPS Tyler Flowers, 23, AA, .298, 12 HR, 41 RBI, .439 OBP, .981 OPS I'm not saying I agree with the rankings, I just understand the logic. Alonso may be a bit overrated, but age is a big factor with Anderson.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Adu doesn't deserve the stick he's been getting. He's still 19 and hasn't gotten much time at Monaco. You can tell he's slightly off the pace, he dribbles at people but he can't really beat them all the time. It's due to him not being match fit. To say he peaked at a young age is laughable. How in God's name can one peak at 17? He's 20 and players have stopped improving in that age range before. I didn't say he peaked at 17. I'm saying he's undersized and not as talented as the hype. I'd rather have a guy like Robbie Rogers or Charlie Davies. Granted, both are older than Adu, but Adu isn't making the progress of the original hype.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) BaseballAmerica released their mid-season top 50 today, and Flowers was nowhere to be found. In fact, no White Sox made the list, not even Danks. Of the guys the Sox had in the top 100 preseason, 2 are in the Majors, Viciedo isn't hitting and most don't think Flowers can stick at catcher. Flowers isn't a top 50 overall prospect as a 1B, he's a top 100 though.

7/9 Game Thread Sox vs. Cleveland 1:05pm CDT CSN
danman31 replied to knightni's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Pena haters beware. He has nasty stuff. This outing was very encouraging. I now like the deal (I was on the fence before). -
Considering Morgado is in the Cape Cod League and tearing it up there, I'm beginning to think it would take above slot for him to sign.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) Can I just say that Future Sox has shown an incredible upgrade in terms of quality over the last two months. It's hard to believe that the site was pretty much dead just a few months ago. In terms of quality of writing and reporting each and every one of you guys is doing top-flight work. We have more people than we've had before. It makes a big difference. It also helps that they all do a great job. -
I've yet to be thrilled with Adu. He is a decent player that hit his peak at a young age.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
danman31 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Even if I agree with every word of this (and I'd have a hard time arguing with you), I thought we were going away from the lower ceiling BS. Plus, I don't think taking a risk on a relief pitcher is all that attractive a prospect with how weird they can be. If you want to hate the trade because it's the safer move that's fine, but I just think a lot of people are hating the trade for the wrong reasons. Allen isn't going to be a superstar and he isn't the only option the Sox have for first base in the future. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:09 AM) I thought the reason that we all loved Allen was because he wasn’t just a power hitting 1b. The guy was a great athlete, with decent speed and a good glove. How is it that 24 hours ago, we had a decent consensus on the kid, and now that he’s been traded for a RP, half the board feels the need to turn on him? Are we that desperate to justify something we can't fully understand? I understand that some people like the move, its okay, but no need to act like those who don't are illogical for holding an opinion. Saying he has a good glove is pushing it. He plays capable first after people thought he was going to be a DH. He is a good athlete and has decent speed for his size. I understand the complaints, but I don't have to agree with them.
