Wow, what a start to the game. First 6 guys walk, then the reliever gives up a grand slam to the first batter he faces. Slayer batting 1.000

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) I just think it's funny she's trying to find an excuse for her gymnasts choking. And she should. Even if it's bulls*** Sacramone is gonna have a tough time living with that. Did you hear her interview afterwards? 'It's pretty much my fault we lost.' Granted, she's right, that's an incredibly harsh realization to live with. I think Marta was just trying to defend her girl. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) Nope, no "attack on America" there. I just thought it was incredibly stupid. Both of the Karolyi's are morons. Just funny to me that we hear so much b****ing about the age of the Chinese competitors first, then the officials making the American's f*** up. What makes the Karolyis morons? In the studio he mentioned it, but gave credit where credit was due. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) Orozco making a ridiculously stupid decision early in the game against Nigeria to throw that elbow plus the refs awarding the Netherlands a pretty iffy penalty kick to give them a win also contributed. The Netherlands is unbelievably lucky to still be in the tournament. Well at least the US finally has some promising young talent in soccer. Yeah, that was hard to watch. I think the US had the better team too. This group of guys has been doing well coming up through the ranks. The National Team has some future. It's typical of US soccer to play well and get unlucky/receive tough breaks. -

She's a looker. -
This whole concept is rather stupid IMO because all it takes is one person to love the player and he is top 50 so I don't know why people are putting so much thought into the argument. No one is going to agree with the list because people like players for different reasons. Read the list, laugh at how terrible it is going to be, and move on.

I never said his stuff or makeup sucked. In my opinion Egbert isn't a great prospect, you think otherwise. I'll be very surprised if Egbert has a sustained career in the Majors as a starter.
-
Rookie ball being tougher than college competition is questionable. Not to mention the hitters are using wood bats instead of metal.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Stuff does not make a good pitcher. There is a lot more to it. Everyone has good talent if they make to the high minors. It's the mental approach and mental toughness which can get guys with good stuff pushed out of baseball. I know that, but his mental approach was supposed to be what made him good previously. All I'm saying is one of them is wrong. You can't have stuff, makeup, and suck.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) To me 'the stuff' means a fastball over 90mph and a couple of other respectable pitches a guy can get over the plate. He's got that. He's got an average fastball, but both his changeup and slider are above average. I mean... what's not to like about a guy with a 8-9 K/9, a K/BB that ranges between 3-4/1, and who generates alot of groundballs??? If his stuff was that good he wouldn't be having such a tough year.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) I think he will post an ERA between 4.50-5.00 with solid peripherals. Who cares about peripherals in the Majors Leagues? People only use them in the minors because they can show dominance that will result in success in the next level. I have a huge argument with a friend of mine that Gio is not gonna be any better than a 3 (and I've said worse things than that). He says he will pitch like an ace when on his game and at worst is gonna be a 2. We'll see...

Hogs 26-20 and 6.5 out? Geez. Myrtle Beach is 32-13, that's pretty fake. Of course it's the Braves though. Post Schuerholz the Major League team hasn't been as good, but the scouts are still excellent. Also, someone is going to have to tell me how Wes Whisler is so freaking successful this year. Does this guy have the best intangibles ever, is his stuff severely underrated, or is he extremely lucky? I can't imagine it's a lot of the 3rd option because he has succeeded at a relatively regular basis this season.
-
I don't know first hand, but I don't think he actually has the stuff. He needs to be more pinpoint with it to get out AAA hitters consistently. If he does, he might be able to develop a career as a back of the rotation guy. I mean if people think Clayton Richard can pitch in the bigs for a sustained career, Egbert isn't far behind.
-
Egbert has had a few good starts, but not a string of them. 4.61 ERA over his last 10 starts. He continues to struggle.
-
Charlotte lost 7-3 Egbert continues to struggle (5.1 IP, 6 R) Barons lost 8-3 Day roughed up in another start Hogs lost 1-0 Retherford 2-4 Rasner 5.1 IP, R (0 ER), 7 K, 3 BB, 6 H Bristol won to avoid the minor league system sweep Short 3-5, 2B, 2 R

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) I thought that was only if you pleasured yourself? Yeah, but if that were true I'm pretty sure mankind would have killed every feline ages ago.
-
Agreed on the bullpen and Thornton. 40 pitches for Thornton, he was going to give up runs.
-
How can his scouting grades have 0 upside but in his notes they say he has definite upside? Also, a kitten dies everytime box scores are posted backwards.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) I am just going to not say what I am thinking with my head. The one thing I will say is you appreciate first place more after spending a day without being in it. Say it damnit. You think the Twins are gonna win?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) Contreras to start on Saturday against Boston. Buzz kill. I suppose he can't be worse than Clayton Richard, who simply isn't a Major Leaguer no matter how you cut it.

I'll allow, no I'll applaud, the double post. WTF

Preseason polls don't matter and aren't that accurate anyway. Can't wait for the Arch game in St. Louis though. Shame it has to be in the dome, that place sucks, but the game should be great. -
If the Sox are 2.5 games or more in front of Minnesota by the end of that series, I'll feel very good about the road trip. I hate playing in that dump of a stadium.
-
First off Sam Adams....overrated and overpriced. Second, Salvador went on leave for a death in the family. I forget who so I won't guess, but that was why he missed some time.
-
I won. Merged.
