  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Morel looks like a decent hitter, but has ZERO power. It's possible he's still adjusting to wood bats, but you're probably right.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 03:41 AM) He's probably one to watch for the next year or so...dan's had his eye on him for a while now, and I like dan's background on prospects coming from the lower levels, so let's just say, yeah, let's keep an eye on him. Haha thanks for the cred. I don't know anything about him other than his manager in GF said he was fast. His stats look good, he is playing in a high level for his age, he's in his first year in this country for pro ball and the Sox think highly enough of him to push him a bit. That's all I'm basing it on, but that's quite a bit.
  3. Escobar 3-4 for the I's. Up to .263, not bad after that horrid start. 15 for his last 38 after starting 0-19. Charlis Burdie (22 year old reliever) K'd 2 and walked one in an inning for his Kanny debut. He had 22 K to only 4 BB and 3 hits in 11 innings at Great Falls. Age is obviously a huge issue with him, but his K numbers have always been good.
  4. Xavier Nady got a little screwed. Not even on last ballot with a .325 avg and .927 OPS. Yet Aaron Rowand is on last ballot. Zero sense made.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 02:54 AM) Fields went 1-2 with 2 walks and a K. His name is Joshua isn't it?
  6. Charlotte Box Score Cook 2-5, RBI double, R, K Javier Castillo 4-5, up to .325 since getting moved up to Charlotte. Barons won 5-0 Schnur went yard. Day 4 IP, K, 2 BB, H Hogs edge Kinston 6-5 Joshua 1-2, 2 BB, K Allen 1-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R, BB Long 6 IP, 2 R, 5 K, BB, 4 H Kanny 2-1 win in game 1 of their doubleheader Escobar 1-3 Maxwell 7 IP, 1 R, 8 K, 3 BB, 2 H 4 errors for Lake County, ouch. I's lose 3-2 in game 2 Escobar 1-3, R Oney 1-2, RBI (now 2-4 with Kanny, haha) Great Falls score 6 in 7th to win 8-6 Converted pitcher Cody Allen: 6 IP, 9 K, BB, 2 H O'Neil 1.1 IP, 3 R. He's had a rough start to pro ball. Bristol lost 6-3 Silverio 0-4, K down to .227. After everyone went nuts, it appears he is coming back to earth. I expected a bust and so far he has delivered. Hopefully he turns it around. I'm not saying I'm giving up on him, but I'm not expecting anything.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 05:19 AM) Two more weeks of this and he'll probably be given a Kanny assignment and skip GF. He's in GF.
  8. Lee Fischer got a hit!!!! And it was a double!!! An RBI double!! Ok, sorry, I was so surprised and happy that I had to share that.
  9. Short is putting together a fine season.
  10. Escobar finished 4-7 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Good times.
  11. Thornton just did his best God impersonation. That was sick.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) CF Brandon Short was 2-2 with a walk and an RBI. And 4 stolen bases. Impressive.
  13. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) well im excited about rose, but im a tad disappointed we didnt take beasley....but i was expecting this Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Rose damn well better be better than all these guards going in the lottery or the pick is gonna be terrible. I'm gonna be the ass that has very lofty expectations of Rose because I think Beasley is the better player.
  14. I would be ecstatic the Bulls traded up for Lopez. Deng, Rose, Lopez is a damn fine core.
  15. Yeah, he's a beast. Good to see him mashing the ball. It took him a while to adjust to pro ball, but he's doing ok.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) Is there a site with straight up box scores, not recaps? ncaa-baseball.com
  17. I want to know why ESPN continues to ruin the College World Series with OAR and how the players Erin Andrews interviews aren't slobbering all over her.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Escobar has gone hitless in his three games at Kanny so far. So who knows? It could be that after his hot start in Great Falls that they wanted to see how he looked against A-ball pitching. Maybe he ends up going back to GF. It's 2 games, 0-9. This must be some sort of preparation for Beckham with Escobar to see where they can put some of these SS when Beckham signs.
  19. Eduardo was promoted to Kannapolis today. He went 0-5 with a K in his I's debut. He was 10-24 (.417) with 2 doubles, a triple and a HR with Great Falls. He also had 2 walks, 3 Ks, 4 RBI and 6 runs. 1/2 in SB attempts and a classy 1.173 OPS. Surprising that he moved up this fast, it's possible it's a temporary thing with an injury or something. A lot of shuffling in the system lately.
  20. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) True you can play minor league baseball and still play another sport in college but once you've lost amateur athlete status you have to pay your own tuition. I know this b/c of the Dennis Dixon situation (Oregon is my alma mater) Some baseball players will get school paid for in their contracts though.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) LOL. Now I've heard it all. Paul Phillips struck out to end the inning, but the ball got away from the catcher. It was recorded as a wild pitch... Phillips makes 1st on the dropped 3rd strike... and Javier Castillo scored the winning run from 3B. Ballgame. Charlotte wins 6-5. Beat this: "Senior John McKee singled to lead off the top of the eleventh inning. He was lifted for pinch runner Kurt Calvert, who moved second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Gary Arndt and then went to third on a ground out by junior Evan Frey. Then, with junior Brock Bond at the plate, a throw back from the UT catcher Preston Clark sailed over the head of the Longhorn pitcher Randy Boone, allowing Calvert to score the go-ahead run." Mizzou won at Texas last year on that. That's the craziest go-ahead/winning run situation I've heard of.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Its a pretty good rule and something I'd like to see the NBA institute. I think you shoudl be able to go out of highschool or at least commit to a minimum of 2 years (in basketball's case) of college playing time (3 years would be even better, but given the quicker impact you can make in basketball it may not be realistic). I would love to see guys required to go to college ball and get rid of rookie ball. It would make the draft more of a sure thing, would make college baseball more popular and would make the draft more popular as well (I think). As for basketball, I think that would make more guys go pro out of high school because they don't want to wait 2 more years. The current NBA draft system is far better than what it was because you can see these high school guys against better competition. If they dominate as a freshman, they probably are NBA worthy.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 12:31 AM) Who the hell is Gartrell? More or less a non-prospect with the disappointing season he's had. Was never a big prospect, but he's in AA in his 2nd full season of pro ball. He was taken out of college, spent one year in rookie ball, started last year in Kanny, did well there and got promoted to W-S where he was decent. He's been bad this year. His K rate is kinda high this year, that might be why he's struggling. Gerst is in his 3rd year of rookie ball. He sounded like a decent prospect when he got picked and I think I said something about that here, but he hasn't performed. If he does well to finish this year and then succeeds at Kanny, we might have something, but for now he's just a guy in his 3rd year of pro ball facing rookies.
  24. Escobar finished 4-5, that's my boy.
  25. The Warthogs are facing 07 first rounder Ross Detwiler. Detwiler has been pretty bad since becoming a pro.
