Maybin in bold LOL. Funny that ever happened.

Aaron Crow is doing his thing in what is probably his last start as a Mizzou Tiger. 7-0 Mizzou mid 8 right now with Crow mowing down the Rebels. Mizzou probably won't win another game this regional. 7-0 Tigers win. 2 years in a row Crow has thrown a complete game for the Friday regional game, but this time it's a shutout. 10 K, 5 BB, 3 hits. Not his best control, but he walked 2 in the last 2 innings once his pitch count got over 100. I really hope it wasn't the last outing of his career, but he's toast for the regional and I'm almost 100% sure Mizzou can't win this regional (especially considering I don't think they will win another game).

QUOTE (knightni @ May 25, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) How was Notre Dame this year? 33-21, 16-10 in the Big East. Not bad, but that's not gonna ever get in the tourney. Big East was only a 2-bid league this year and Louisville only got in because they won the conference tournament.

Owens had 2 hits and a walk. Egbert continues to suck this year.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ May 26, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) So I will be annoyed if we end up picking Tim Melville or Brett Wallace, who we have been linked with a bit. So I'm actually going against the trend, and I'll say we'll pick Brian Matusz if he's still on the board. He's got 3 good pitches, and although his fastball is only in the 87-92 range (although it'll get to 94 on occasions), it's his secondary stuff which has scouts excited. I don't think Matusz will be there. I've heard his fastball is slower than that. 86-89 sounds closer to what I was told, but who knows. Velocity gets inflated in reports anyway. I've heard very good things about Melville. He pitched in Columbia during the HS season and my buddy knows a Royals scout who watched him pitch that day. Says he really likes his delivery. I'm not big on drafting HSers in the 1st round, but I wouldn't be upset if they took him depending on who was on the board. Also, if Crow or Matusz are available and the Sox don't take them, I'm gonna be pissed. Screw needing position players, take best available.

If Jordan Danks is still available in the 3rd round it's an indictment of how bad/hard the draft is. Danks is a damn fine talent and if the Sox had a 2nd rounder and grabbed him I'd be ecstatic. He hasn't dominated this year like a first rounder would, but he is as good of an athlete as you will see and his defense has to be among the best for OFers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Its nothing big... I am just thinking with the way that the Rangers fall apart in August and September every year, its got a pretty good shot. Look at guys like Blalock, Kinsler, Mench, Wilkerson during their time down in Texas. Big first halves, bad second halves. Texeira seemed to buck that trend. Yeah, as my friend from Dallas keeps telling me: once the Cowboys start practicing the Rangers record goes way down.

I'm just happy Missouri can actually win a conference/national title in something.

The only sporting event that might touch the Super Bowl is on. 1-0 Man U on a solid header by Ronaldo.

Charlotte PPD, Birmingham off. Frederick 8, Winston-Salem 3 Allen 2-3, 3B, HR, BB Shelby 1-4, RBI, K, CS Kannapolis 3, Delmarva 1 Gregory Infante, 20 years old from Venezuela, made his debut: 4 IP, 0 R, 2 K, 2 BB, 2 hits Last year he was with Bristol and had decent numbers other than horrible control.
-
I don't know how you can pass up Beasley at this point.
-
I just noticed Texeira, the closer for W-S, didn't give up a HR all of last season at Kanny (53.2 IP) and hasn't given up one in 10.1 innings this year. He's had a K/9 over 9 and H/9 under 9 so he might be a respectable prospect (21 years old).
-
Yeah, Scherzer sent down all 13 he faced and K'd 7. I so just picked him up in the Soxtalk keeper league. Thank you very much top waiver spot.

Charlotte PPD. Birmingham won 6-1 Cassel with a weird-ass outing. 4.1 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 0 K, 1 BB, 8 hits, 2 HBP Good pen work from Rodriguez and Hernandez. Hogs won 2-0 Allen went yard. Gomes 2-3 Rasner 7 IP, 0 R, 6 K, 3 BB, 1 hit Kanny was off.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Jason Rice would be interesting to keep an eye on if he has his walks under control at all. 214 IP in his career, given up only 165 hits, and 229 K's. But then there's the ugly 161 BB's which puts his ERA at 4.46. Hard to hit a guy who's never in the zone.

4/18 Games -> Egbert to BHam, Starting Tonight

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) Since the big 12 is a pretty strong baseball conference I would attend to agree with you. But unless you play in a baseball powerhouse and play against pretty good competition I tend to believe college ball is a bit worse than Low A. Agree. The best players are better than what you'll see in Low A, but there isn't anywhere near the depth. -

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 11:19 PM) My point was that there is alot of talent all about the same age as Shirek in the Carolina League. I don't think his experience at Nebraska explains why he's dominating this year. The reason he's dominating is because he's throwing an incredible number of strikes (22K's/3BB's) and not walking people. Nothing in his backround suggested that would happen. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/S/C...ie-Shirek.shtml Hopefully it's the result of development that will allow him to continue to harness the powerful arm he has. He's not in the Carolina League. He's in the South Atlantic League. I would argue that major conference college baseball is on par with Low-A ball in a lot of ways. There isn't the same depth in college, but the best of the best dominate A ball right out of school. In his 2nd season he should be doing well in Low A or he truly is a non-prospect. -

Shirek is dominating low-A ball like a major conference college pitcher should. -
Max Scherzer topped BA's Prospect Hot Sheet. Solid. I still think he has the best fastball I've seen in person. Link

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) Zoom fixed all of it. Yeah, all the keepers are on the correct teams, but Jason got an advantage. He got Soriano as his first non-keeper pick and I got Alex Rios, heh. If I could have shown up to the draft I would be able to complain better though. It's not a big deal since my team is doing well anyway.
-
I just realized that Soriano got picked in the 3rd round and wasn't a keeper. Something seems wrong there, but whatever. Stupid ass Jason lol

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) One and only one kind of pizza -- JACKS. Typically half sausage, half pepperoni. I'm sure there are better, but my mom has bought this pizza for years and I've grown accustomed to it. Thank you. I'm surprised it took this long to get mentioned. It's my favorite and I know I'm not alone. I've converted 2 of my friends.

Beer pong is fun, even when I suck at it for mostly the whole game until making same cup twice to win.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Winston-Salem beats Salem (ha!) 5-4. Highlights... Hitters that people care about (Shelby, Miranda, Orlando, Allen, Hernandez): combined 2-for-16 Non-prospect org guys: 9-for-14 (LOL) Salvador Sanchez went 2-4. He's hitting .313 and is as much of a prospect as any of those guys. Shelby hasn't really proven much to deserve any of the hype he is getting IMO and the rest have just as many question marks as Sanchez. Sanchez is skipping Kanny this year, kind of at least, he was at Great Falls last year. A good year this year would make him a prospect again IMO. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) Seems like Kanny is the weakest spot in the system right now. They're 4-5, but I don't think the other teams will keep winning. Kanny has enough guys that they should start winning more.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) 8 baserunners in 3 IP with 1 K? Yikes, he's not adjusting well. I think it's way too early to say not adjusting. Has he even entered the adjustment period? He had 2 innings before this start.
