QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) Yeah, technically he was "considering them"...but it's been down to duke and illinois for quite some time now Well he visited Arizona over our Spring break which was a couple weeks ago so he finally was able to narrow it down to those 2. I'm pretty confident that he will go to Duke.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Like Dan says though, if he struggles in Charlotte he's pretty much into the midst of the Adkins/Diaz/Walker which is being a back of the end reliever at best, imo. If he struggles in Charlotte he will never make it to the Majors again as opposed to Adkins and Diaz who have both shown success in Charlotte. I haven't given up on Diaz. BTW, in your other players to watch writeup with guys like Owens and Jenks you should talk about Diaz now that he is starting in the minors. We had him as a non-prospect because of his time in the bigs last year. If we had him on the list he would be ahead of Munoz, that's for damn sure.

Like Aboz said he is still intriguing because of what he has shown in the past and the supposedly great curveball. However, the odds of him making an impact with this team are minimal. And he would be a middle reliever anyway. Not to say they aren't important, but middle relievers in the minors just aren't top 10 material. And YAS, I had the same thinking as you to a certain extent that his confidence was shot after getting shelled by the Expos. Getting rocked in Charlotte last year wasn't that big of a deal because of that. However, I'm keeping him on a short leash as any sort of a prospect. Also, in 2 outings out of the pen so far he has pitched 4 innings. He has given up 4 runs, 8 hits and 2 walks. Yuck.
-
In his Winston-Salem debut last night, Rafael Flores went 4 innings giving up 4 runs (all earned). He struck out 3, walked 3, and gave up 7 hits while receiving the loss 5-4 to Kinston.

Wow, Honel has a 6 ERA and he hasn't even pitched this season. He must be pretty bad. Seriously, I really hope he does well. I'm not going to hold my breath though. I think he will go 3 or 4 innings and give up 3 or 4 runs.

Hansen was drafted last year. So unless you mean that he is a veteran at that level because of playing in college, then sure, but he has never played full season ball before.

The more I look at our list the more I realize that it's absolutely ridiculous that Munoz is in the top 10. Oh well.

Birmingham Box Score Late rally not enough for Warthogs, they fall 5-4. 2 hits for Valido. Box Score Kannapolis wins 8-4 behind an 8 run 7th. 2 hits for De Los Santos, Kelly, and Daron Roberts. Adam Russell, my sleeper, with a decent start. Box Score

Charlotte, 1-2, will wrap up their opening 4 game set against Columbus (Yankees) today. The game is just getting underway. Villacis is getting the nod for Charlotte. Birmingham, also 1-2, is also finishing up a 4 game set. The Barons are in Jacksonville (Dodgers) for a 2:05 start time. Nik Lubisich is scheduled to start against Eric Hull. Winston-Salem, 0-2, will try to avoid a sweep against Kinston (Indians). Rafael Flores will pitch against Billy Traber. Traber pitched all of 2003 with the Cleveland Indians, but in 2004 he had surgery and did not pitch at all. His comeback begins today for a 1:00 start time. Kannapolis, 1-2, will close out a 4 game set against Asheville (Rockies) at 4:05.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 03:37 AM) Liotta went 3 innings, Haigwood 6 and Pacheco 4. Both box scores (milb.com and USA Today) say otherwise. Pacheco 5, Haigwood 4, Liotta 5.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Is Young being rushed a little bit? I know he walks a lot, but I would have liked to see more strike zone control as far as less K's at Salem, but maybe that's just a petty concern... He wasn't at Winston-Salem, he was at Kannapolis. That's what worries me personally. It's not like he is going to hit for a high average though.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) I know I asked this in one of the other threads, but where the heck are Gonzalez and Lucy? Gio is in Kanny. Lucy is in extended ST.

Charlotte hosts Columbus looking to avoid a sweep. Brandon McCarthy will make his AAA debut. Start time 6:15 CST. Birmingham is at Jacksonville also looking to avoid a sweep. Pacheco will go against Derek Thompson at 6:05. The Warthogs, also winless at 0-1 (notice a trend ), will play at Kinston at 6. It's a battle of lefties as Daniel Haigwood goes against Indians' top 10 pick from the '04 draft Jeremy Sowers. This will be Sowers' pro debut. Kanny, 1-1, is hosting Asheville. At 6:05 Ray Liotta will go against Ching-Lung Lo.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) Prior's been Dusty-fied. I know, that was kind of my point. Gio has had a lot of work without the body makeup like Jason said. You can never be sure when pitchers are going to get hurt.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) well how are his mechanics.... hopefully they are better than Woods .... if he has good mechanics it shouldnt really matter how long he has been throwing it in my opinion. People said Prior had perfect mechanics and he has become a mess, granted no serious arm injuries, yet.

Jay Williams coming back to the NBA next year?
danman31 replied to Jabroni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He wouldn't make the team and I don't think he will make it for any team, but someone will probably give him a shot only to find out he isn't near as good as he was. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Do you guys think if he pitches well Gio will be bumped up to High A early in the season.... i really want to see him in double A next year..... I know he is young but like to see players move up fast. It's possible. I don't see him getting moved up any earlier than July though. He did get some innings in at Kanny last season so that helps a bit, but I still think that the Sox will take it slow with him because he is so young. I've read a few people that think he is an injury waiting to happen because he has been throwing breaking stuff for a while.

QUOTE(bulokis @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) Where can I find some minor league scores and box scores? I saw the knights loss 11-10. Navigate through minorleaguebaseball.com. It's not as good of a setup as last year, but it's early and it looks like not all of the stuff is ready. However, if you go to the team page and click on league scores you can find a box score. Gio pitched 5 shutout innings with 8 Ks in a 4-0 Kanny win and Anderson HR'd in his first at bat for Charlotte. I'd post links, but I gotta go to bed.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Ok thanks for clearing that up Rex. That's disappointing for Tom, especially after he made their playoff roster last season. Another hot start like he did in Kanny last season, and he'll could be up with the Barons sooner rather than later, depending on what happens with the outfielders up there. Good luck cracking that OF. Owens, Sweeney, Young. All legit prospects. That's why Brice is still in W-S.
