  1. A far more likely scenario is simply Georgia beating LSU and the two teams in the title game (still LSU-Bama with 1 loss) will play for the national title while neither won its conference. That's still not very likely, but it's just one upset away. This whole mess sure has to make Boise feel like s***. They would have had their best shot at the title game if they went undefeated this year.
  2. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Meh, Luka and Curletti are combining for just over 3 rebounds per game so far. Their third leading rebounder so far is actually Sobolewski. Luckily for them Shurna and Crawford are both giving them 6 boards a piece. They do have some depth on the perimeter, but their guards haven't been great and they really only have 2.5 big men (Shurna is a combo forward). Their centers are what they are at this point (Luka might give you a few baskets but is slow and floor-bound, Curletti is quicker but has no skills), so I'd really like to see more consistency from the guards. I can't see them being consistently successful if they have to have 40+ from their two studs. I'm actually reasonably happy with Sobolewski so far (at about 8 PPG and 40% from the floor and 3 in Charleston, decent ball-handling), I'm mainly looking at Marcotullio and Cobb. I'm hoping that they're just starting slow due to injuries and that they can get closer to 8 PPG on average, because some nights they'll need 40 points from their non-Shurna/Crawford players given their frequent defensive issues. That's pretty much it though. They actually have guys you can expect to put up better numbers off the bench. And when was the last time you remember NU having 2.5 big men? That was my point.
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) Crawford looked awesome, that makes me feel better. The centers still suck, though Mirkovic's post moves look a little better. Hopefully one or more of the guards step up to be a consistent 3rd option instead of points by committee outside of their two stud forwards. They have 3 guys capable of rebounding at a halfway decent rate though (Shurna, Mirkovic, Curletti). That's new to me. They're not getting any offense out of either of the centers and will still get torched inside by a good big man (like tonight), but they're a little bit deeper. They do need a third scorer, but they have some depth at guard as well. Also, I've been really impressed with how invisible Sobolewski has been. I know that's a backhanded compliment, but he's a freshman point guard that really doesn't make many mental mistakes.
  4. This belongs in the drunk thread. Heads are you really on a 3 day bender because of one win?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) The Walking Dead continues to be mediocre while Boardwalk Empire continues to kick ass. Yeah even the 'story revelations' with people finding out stuff were quite boring. I'll watch the midseason finale next week and then it's a gametime decision whether or not I feel like sticking with it through the break.
  6. Did Northwestern really just win a basketball tournament? Holy crap.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 02:53 AM) And third, I think I like Barkley over Luck, and I'm serious. From what I saw from the two today and from Luck last week I'm starting to agree with you.
  8. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) Lot's of bad coaching tonight. Did you see Jimbo Fischer? Ha no, but I find it funny when FSU fails (sorry chimpy). Such an overrated team. Also, down goes OU. Griffin is unreal. Randel El part 2, but a better passer.
  9. Chip Kelly tops anything Les Miles has done with that impossibly poor clock management. Oregon was moving the ball at will and failed to use their timeout and settled on a FG with a kicker who is 6/10. I have no idea how you do that.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) The defense is that good and the talent and schedule was there to do it. You could just as easily argue that they should be 3-8. 3 3 point home wins. That sounds ridiculous to you I'm sure, but saying this team had the ability to win 10 games is absurd. They had a backloaded schedule and lost some confidence after losing some games. They were always going to do better in the first half of the season.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:54 PM) Meh, you could make the same argument if there was a playoff and Bama met LSU on a neutral field and Bama won. I'd still rather see a different game. LSU-Bama made my eyes bleed.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 12:21 AM) Kuhn is eligible, so is Doyle. When I met Terry's uncle, one of the things we talked about was his upcoming eligibility in the Rule 5 draft. His dad told me a few weeks ago that they were waiting to find out. Kuhn is eligible for the Major League phase and only the Major League phase.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) So because the best team in the country is in their division they shouldn't be able to go to the title game even if they are second best team. And even if the 3rd ranked team got their asses kicked and were never even remotely competitive with the #1 team and the #2 team outplayed the #1 team. That makes a ton of sense. The point of a title game is to decide who the best team is in the country. If it's LSU/Bama and Bama wins, it's a sham. It makes plenty of sense. Besides, we are all talking about this stuff as it stands. It will change plenty.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) He is already on the AA roster though. I can assure you that Kuhn is not eligible for the minor league phase. Losing him wouldn't be a loss to me. Same for Brandon Short. Danks could be a minor annoyance because I think he could be a solid fourth OF option.
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:38 PM) I was under the impression that today was the deadline for Rule 5 protection. Is that incorrect? I read the 20th is the deadline unless the weekend changed it. Hmm, that was of course wrong. I doubt Doyle gets picked up, but even if he gets taken and doesn't stick it's a bad thing for his development. Deunte Heath is protected. What a joke.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) So if ISU pulls this off (still a big if) and LSU and Alabama win out, there has to be a rematch of those two teams in the title game right? I don't know how you would possibly make the case for anyone else over Bama. Can't do it. I refuse to let a team that didn't win their division go to the title game (and yes I realize it happened before, how did that turn out?). Hopefully Arkansas beats LSU and we can all just s*** the bed over this season.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) You're that convinced no one takes a shot at him? I'm that convinced that either the Sox end up protecting him or something else happens before that Nov. 20 deadline. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Doyle just got showcased in the AFL. Kuhn will probably get nabbed in the minor league phase. Exactly. You don't showcase a guy just to let him go for free. It was the Sox that showcased him after all. Kuhn won't even be eligible for the AAA phase.
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) He left the UF talent pool in shambles. He recruited no offensive weapons during his last year or two. They dont have a running back who can run against SEC teams. Their WR corps sucks. Recruited a QB who couldnt fit into his offense. You can say if Meyer doesnt have a great system QB, ie Tebow or Alex Smith, his offense will suck. He came in to a loaded program, won a title with Zook's players and then continued that momentum in getting some great talents that he didnt really have to work for because UF was the top school at the time. Dan Mullen leaves and his offense starts to slow up. Tebow leaves and he is lost out there. He basically recruited right off of the Rivals website, which at times is a joke. He was getting 4 and 5 star recruits in the Rivals top 100 lists but there were lots of talk among local/state scouts who said a lot of those players were major reaches and overrated hype. Dude come on. You're trying to say a guy that won 2 National titles in the span of a few years was bad for the program. I know you hate Florida so you have no chance of looking at this realistically, but come on. You went a long way to discredit a coach who has no business being discredited. You basically just said 'Yeah, he won two national titles, but he didn't leave the program in position for a third so he's not that good.'
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) And the White Sox will lose him in the Rule 5. Please don't encourage this garbage. It won't happen.
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) He'll probably be selected in the Rule 5 as he's not currently protected. That's absolutely ridiculous. The Sox have 4 open spots and wouldn't waste sending him to the AFL just to leave him unprotected after a great showing.
  21. Are they even going to call it the 5? Wouldn't it be the 6? The only phone they named by number was the 4, which was the fourth phone. There was no 2 or 3. 3G came second, but that was named after the network. 3GS was the upgrade to that phone like the 4S is to the 4. I'd bet they don't call it the 5.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Completely disagree. I've had no such problems with it finding things near me. Simply append the words, what is the closest Domino's pizza to me...and it gives it to you. Simply saying something like Domino's Pizza is meaningless. Give it context and your problems are solved. Would I recommend picking up a 4s if you already have a 4 in decent shape? No. But to say Siri plainly sucks is plainly wrong. You just haven't found a use for it or are refusing to use it properly. That doesn't mean it sucks, however. I don't understand what's so hard to use about Siri. You talk to it like you'd talk to a person. If you want to know where the NEAREST domino's pizza is...ASK EXACTLY THAT. It's pretty simple. I gave it context and it still failed. That's my point. When I'm telling it the street it's on and the town it's in, that more than enough context. That Domino's wasn't on the list of Domino's near me. It also fails to look up high schools when I give the exact name of the school. That's as specific as you need to be. No, Siri, I don't want a list of high schools near me. I want directions to Evanston High School, or Hinsdale Central High School, or you name it. It's whiffed at every chance. Again, it's not how I talk to it, it's what it looks up after I've talked to and it understands what I say.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) How often do you use Siri? To put it plainly, Siri sucks. It's excellent at voice recognition, but that's not it's problem. The other day I wanted directions to a Domino's near my location. I was on my way back from work and was coming from a different way than normal so I decided to have the phone confirm the best way to go. I said "Domino's Pizza." It knew what I said, but none of the results for Domino's were the one I wanted (which was also the closest one to me). I added the road the Domino's I wanted was on. Again, it knew what I said but didn't find the one I was looking for. I added the town to the location ("Domino's Pizza, ROAD, TOWN") and it still didn't find it. I type the same exact words into google maps and it finds it immediately without problem. Siri is like 2/7 on actually finding places I'm looking for. As someone who upgraded from an iPhone3G, I already have the habits formed on how to use the different apps and the phone in general so I'm finding it difficult to work Siri in when it can't find a place as quickly as typing into google maps. Maybe I have to say "search for Domino's Pizza on google maps" or something stupid as a work around, but I pretty much have shunned Siri out of frustration. The beauty of Siri from an Apple standpoint is that it's hard not to be impressed in the first couple days of having it because the voice recognition doesn't make too many mistakes so reviewers can rave about Siri in that initial window. By the time they realize it's not that useful yet their reviews have long since gone to print and the web. If you have a 4, don't upgrade. If you have an older phone like I did and want the speed improvement, it's 100% worth it.
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Let's all be honest here. We are voting for Frank Thomas -- not the other 3. Yeah, way to bias the poll Heads.

BTW, last night's South Park was phenomenal. Good to see them put out a classic. There were only a few good ones this season, but they ended on a bang.
