  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Followed by another high school game that is really bad. These teams look like mediocre high school teams so far. I take it back. That was a damn good finish. I was surprisingly entertained by the high school ball tonight. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) On a separate note, I would have voted OSU number one in the poll this week. Losing to Kansas in Phogg Allen Fieldhouse without your best player is no reason to fall in the polls. Agreed, but who cares? Basketball has a tournament that doesn't use the polls to seed the teams.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) Anyone watching ESPN? I tuned in to watch (hopeful) OSU recruit Tony Parker and have been amazed by the level of talent on the court. Its a whole different level of competition than we are used to seeing for sure. Followed by another high school game that is really bad. These teams look like mediocre high school teams so far.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) I only half paid attention to the American version, but how was it that much better? It was basically a shot-for-shot remake. It had some differences. It just didn't have the same feel for me. Maybe it was the acting. Somehow it lacked the punch the original did.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) The new GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (CRAIG/ROONEY MARA version) got a sterling "A" review from EW.com. Seems like it will be a can't miss movie, despite it's obviously dark topics/issues/undertones. I have a really hard time believing they go as dark as the original movie did. You kind of have to, but I'm hesitant to believe an American film could turn out like that. Kinda like how the original Let the Right One In was better than the American version, Let Me In.

I miss when Morena Baccarin had long hair. Short hair just looks awful on her.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Made official today, Glenbard West's Tommy Schutt to OSU. Urban's second 5 star. LOL so I guess all the local media stories about him staying firm to PSU during the Sandusky thing was BS.
  7. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 11, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Isn't that the formula for beating a #1 EVERY year? Unless you mean something like another top 5 team vs. #1, any upset against a #1, especially by an unranked team, is going to involve a lot of 3s and a lot of luck. To be honest, it sounds like you always want the best team to win. That's not how it works. No one's denying Kentucky is leaps and bounds a better team than IU, but that doesn't mean that IU can't beat them some nights, like yesterday. It is the way to pull an upset. I just don't like watching teams rely on 3s to win big games. It's not good basketball. The problem is we have to hear about how improved IU is when in reality they're still a bubble team. Except now they're a bubble team that got a huge resume boost. Their guards are mediocre and they're unable to get their best player involved at this stage in the season, which will result in a couple bad losses as we move on.
  8. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) But maybe we just disagree about 3-pointing in general, because I'm not entirely sure how you consider that Watford "chucking it up" at the end. He was squared up and took a good shot. I'm not denying IU shot out of their minds for most of that game, because they did. But they weren't exactly randomly thrown up with their eyes closed, either. It wasn't a bad shot, but I got tired of seeing IU make bad shots throughout the game. Basically the formula for beating No. 1 this year is: 1. make tons of 3s at a high percentage 2. ???? 3. profit.
  9. LOL what a joke. IU makes another chuck. No surprise there.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) It's no worse than what an average team gets at home, but yeah i figured I'd jump the gun and say it. I actually think the refs evened it out a bit, but a poorly reffed game with no big benefit to either side.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) Yeah, so these refs have been moderately one-sided. I don't care. At least someone admits it. The big difference to me is IU making 3s like crazy and most of them on bad shots. Then Hulls thinks he is actually good at basketball and takes an off-balance catch and shoot 3. Yeah right. Either way, invaluable experience for this IU team. They haven't had a big game in a long time.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) The weather was bad? It's kinda cold, but that's all. Facility-wise, it's the best option, in our area that is. Plenty of parking, a few acres it seems, plenty of seating. Well I mean no one really wants to go outside for a soccer game when it's 38 degrees.
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 11:39 PM) Huh, didn't realize they were playing NCAA Men's Soccer playoffs in Birmingham at Regions Park. Yeah I watched the second semi tonight. They did a nice job of positioning the camera so all you can see is the stands. You wouldn't know it was a baseball stadium if you weren't already aware. Still, it's pretty lame they couldn't get a soccer (or even shared football) venue for this. Not to mention, they got pretty crappy weather tonight.
  14. I guess what I meant was I always expected this to be THE year, but it's not playing out like I thought it would.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) The past few weeks I've been watching Dollhouse on Amazon Prime, I really liked that show. Could have had another few seasons but they did well with the time they had. Yeah I loved that show. It took it about 6 episodes to get going, but once it did, man that was quality. I wasn't expecting much from a show that was canceled after two seasons, but I really enjoyed it.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...nkings/_/week/1 I always thought this team could make a run at the Final Four with all the talented seniors, but that was with Laurence Bowers. I almost don't want people on the bandwagon yet. Let's beat Illinois first.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) The bags of cash by pryors feet is classic. Oh s*** I missed that. Fowler's reaction is classic.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) Which is odd because 12 players were selected in the Rule V draft, so 40% of baseball disagrees. He said ones with AFL success. Not unprotected players in general.
  19. Mathieu deserved to be a finalist and that's it. It's still an honor to get to NY. Griffin deserves it and it sounds like he'll win.
  20. It's a good pickup for the Twins because they probably have the room to hide Doyle. With 4 open spots on the 40-man roster, you'd think the Sox would be able to protect Doyle. It's a disaster in that you lost a potentially valuable piece for nothing, but Doyle still has a ways to go. Good luck to him, there's a chance the Sox will get him back still as well. However, he's 26 so at that point if he doesn't make it he won't make it.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Yeah, I usually hate Gottlieb because he is a massive Big 12 homer, but he was terrific last night. Really personalized the broadcasting. I hate Gottlieb because he is a massive homer, but not for all the Big 12. He hates certain teams from his playing days still.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Big East really doesn't want to let WV, Pitt and Syracuse go early. Pretty sure that means the Big East loses its AQ status for a year otherwise. If these teams leave immediately and Boise and co. don't enter until 2013 I have the Big East with 5 teams.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Watched last night. Our passing was an absolute thing of beauty. And mizzou was offensive rebounding like crazy. Everytime I think the lack of size will come into effect, they just fight harder and overcome it. And... Ricardo ratliff has made something like 30 of his last 32 shots. I don't want to be a downer, but unfortunately the name programs Mizzou has played so far aren't any good. Nova is probably a bubble team, Notre Dame is atrocious and Cal might be a 8-10 seed (and I think that's generous). Good thing is, they've won every game by double digits. Hopefully Illinois can be the test needed before conference play.
  24. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) So, I guess if you found a $ 100 bill on the ground you would be okay to trade it for a hamburger? The Sox gave away an excellent closer that was young and very cheap. Now, a good starting pitcher is def. worth more than a closer. So, if this kid becomes, within a few years, an excellent starting pitcher for many years then the Sox did good. But, that seems to be very debatable right now on this kid since he's only thrown 22 innings above A ball. If he ends up in the bullpen then the Sox got fleeced. And, if he ends up just a so-so starting pitcher at the big league level then the Sox blew a chance to get a better return for a valuable piece like Santos. Molina might be great but right now the return looks light for Santos because the Sox only got 1 prospect and the reports on him vary quite a bit. A so-so starting pitcher is at least as valuable as a good closer. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) Who has him ranked as a Top 50 prospect? I've seen that referenced a few times now. These guys did
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) Rex, Im not saying that the loser gets a bid. Im saying that the loser should be able to be considered for a bid. If dont get taken so be it, but I really dont see the problem with making there 3-5 more eligible teams. The loser can be considered, but will rarely get picked anyway. I'll give you a scenario that actually happened. In '07, Mizzou was #1 heading into the Big 12 title game and lost to OU for the 2nd time that year. Kansas at 11-1, and without having played conference champ OU, closed the regular season by losing to Mizzou and was ranked lower (8 vs. 6 for Mizzou) than the 11-2 Tigers. Yet, Kansas got the Orange Bowl bid and their rep goes on air flat out saying they picked Kansas because they had fewer losses. The logic to that made my head explode at the time. The fan bases are about the same in football so that wasn't the issue. They simply didn't want to pick the team fresh off a loss (even if Kansas lost their last game too whatever). Plus, they figure all these Mizzou fans just bought tickets to the Big 12 title game (which was in San Antonio, hardly regional) and felt they were less likely to shell out for a bigger $$ game soon after. Bottom line is title game losers take a big blow to their bowl prospects and no rule making them automatically eligible for the BCS isn't going to make a difference.
