QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 08:40 AM) That's how I look at it. If you get an elite pitching performance in an elite hitters league, that bodes really well for the young man. It does and it doesn't have to though. I'm certainly not going to discount a player or fall in love with him because of what he did in the AFL. That said, better to do well with the deck stacked against you. I'd say this improves his chances of getting a chance with the Sox though so that's never a bad thing.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) I'm fairly confident that Merle will have something to do with Sophia still being missing. If not, I think it still works in the sense that you might never find out exactly what happened to her. As an audience, we want to know, but it might be a lot more realistic if we never even get any kind of clarification. That's actually a very good point. We're trained for a TV solution to the story, but in reality there's a good chance you don't find out what happened.

That article shows why what Doyle is doing is so impressive. There are so many factors against the pitchers (with that in mind, the Sox hitters have been pretty poor) and stats don't matter, but that's just an excuse for the guys getting rocked. How do you explain/evaluate a guy doing well?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) I don't know how to explain the power, though. I'm going with the theory that they are just siphoning gas off of vehicles to power the generators. The main group doesn't seem to have much trouble doing it to drive around the country so why can't the farm family make trips to get gas for the generators? I'm frustrated that they continue to leave the girl is missing story hanging. No progress on that for quite a while now and I hope they aren't doing this for a whole season. I'd also like to see them touch on the biological part of the infestation. They figured it would be bad to drink water from a zombie that had its guts poured into the water, but were willing to simply remove it from the well and see if the water was ok? A simple bite can't be the only way you can get infected. Hopefully they have a situation like that so we can learn more about the virus.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) I just have trouble where many Mizzou fans are basing that the increased competition in the SEC argument doesn't hold water in terms of future success in the SEC when many of them base that fact on the recent 10 win teams in divisions that were far weaker than what they will encounter in the SEC. I just think they will have issues at the beginning of their switch as their Texas recruiting slows down and their facilities will have trouble matching up against most SEC schools. I didn't say those would be 10 win seasons in the SEC, but I don't think the success drops off that much. In 07 they won 12 games with what was a top 3-5 team in the country. That team would have won the SEC East that year. In 08 they won the North, but weren't competing for anything more than that. They wouldn't have won the division anywhere else and were only the fourth best team in the Big 12, but that was still a top 25 team that's going to win some games. Last year they won a bunch of games, but no division. 9-3 in the SEC or 10-2 in the Big 12 is really not much of a difference when that team didn't win anything significant season wise anyway. It's not like Mizzou was competing for national titles based on playing in the North. They contended for the national title once and that team would have done so no matter what league they were in. It's not like Mizzou is playing Boise's schedule and ranking in the top 5 of the BCS every year without deserving it. The Big 12 North wasn't some scam that was giving them false praise. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) I didn't say it was the cause, but you can't tell me that the Big 12 North didn't help make it happen. To some extent maybe, but that talent was winning anywhere. The biggest win last year was OU, who isn't in the North. I'm not sure I see your argument. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Dan, you know damn well that Mizzou's rise coincided with a remarkably weak Big 12 North. The road gets much tougher, as it already has this year for them. Really? I thought our rise coincided with having Chase Daniel QBing a team that included three first round picks (Jeremy Maclin, Sean Weatherspoon and Ziggy Hood). Last year's 10-win team had two first round picks as well (Gabbert, Aldon Smith). Mizzou has had talent. It's not smoke and mirrors and a weak division. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) James Franklin won't lead us anywhere. He looks too calm in the pocket and has a knack for momentum killing INT's. Terrible acceleration for a "dual-threat" quarterback. Maybe it's mental, but he's instilling a Good Rex/Bad Rex-esque worry in me. Also, the secondary is just bad. I do think Mauk will be a good improvement as a QB if he can beat Franklin for the spot, but Missouri needs Dorial Green-Beckham to commit to them and not anywhere else to have a hope. I have my doubts about Franklin, but that's a first year QB for ya. You gotta cut him some slack in the future. Gabbert had his moments and each of the last two successful QBs lost 5 games in their first year starting so it's not unheard of. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) I really looked forward to KU Basketball... It's just annoying. No rivalry now unless we're counting A&M, who is apparently our main rival now. Plus, we're in the Eastern Division, so that means more games farther out by SC and Florida. Also, I just think we'll get walloped for the next few years in football, which since that's when I'm here, not exactly a fan of. I mean yes, better conference, but that's about it. And I don't think we'll be towards the top of it. We'll be better next year. It's tough to be competitive with a first year QB. You gotta keep the faith. Missouri has 3 10 win seasons in the past 4. They've been a top 15-20 program for a while now so it's not like they're below average in SEC football. Heck, the Big 12 is better than the SEC this year anyway. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Watched the first two episodes of HEROES on Netflix Streaming. Hooked. Aww man, it's only downhill from there. That show is great for a season and a half and then you'll eventually give in and stop. The first season of that show was must see TV, but it's a gradual decline into something I didn't want to watch.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Not kidding about Quidditch. Currently talking with some KU Quidditch players and we're all pissed. We've decided that if the IQA goes through with their plans for a full season, we're staying in the f***ing Big 12/Midwest because we're poor and have to drive still. Seriously, no rivalries now. I f***ing hate this. We don't have the SEC Football culture. This is all Texas' fault. Not going to drive my ass to any away games now. f*** that. Dude seriously? f*** kansas. We're leaving them behind for a mid major league once the Big 12 finishes imploding. Also, do you realize that Waco, Lubbock, College Station and Austin are about as far away as Athens, Baton Rouge and Auburn? South Carolina and Florida are farther, but with Nebraska (and Colorado who wasn't closer either) gone the number of fairly close schools in the conference is about the same. Plus, who wouldn't want to travel to SEC football games? -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 5, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Whoa... I respectfully disagree. I got kinda sleepy during Captain America. There was more ass kicking in Thor. Yeah I didn't care for Captain America. I thought it was pretty mediocre and lacked some punch while Thor was an entertaining movie.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I've used it for directions quite a few times without much issue. Of course, like any directions, it can be the app itself that doesn't understand the command the way Siri sent it, versus Siri itself. It's pretty useful once in a while, but it's not something I lean on all the time. It has it's uses, and for those uses it works well. Keep in mind, this is just a pre-release of Siri, it's still in beta by Apples own admission. I think that sums it up quite well. The potential is obvious, regardless of its current shortcomings.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Siri stopped working for a few hours yesterday. (Normally I'd have said Siri "went down" for a few hours yesterday but that sounded really dirty). I would have reported my issues, but I got my 4S barely more than a week ago and have used Siri just once in the last week. I played with it the first couple days and was impressed with the voice recognition (it's damn near perfect), but I don't have uses for it. Alarm is cool and voice to text is cool, but I don't use it often. Twice it's failed to give me directions to a high school (for work) even though it correctly understood what I said. It said 'Sorry I don't know ## high school, here is a list of high schools near you.' Of course, the ones I was looking for weren't on the list. If I simply typed the name into maps, it would give me directions. So in other words I don't use Siri for directions anymore, which was my most anticipated use of it.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 03:28 AM) I think Chile under Biesla may have utilised the 3-4-3 formation a lot from memory. You need quick defenders if it's going to work though (and wingers actually willing to push back). Yeah that's pros. We're talking U18 amateurs. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) This season a have the 7th grade boy's team. The 7th graders, now 8th grade won district last year, so the bar is set high. We are learning a new formation. We will be starting from a 3-4-3 which is what the high school implemented last season. The idea is consistency from 7-12 in everything from drills to cheers. x x x x x x x x x x x Basically from here we can fall back to a 4-4-2 or a 5-3-2 I won't have my full team until the night before our first game. They are playing football right now. I had some tonight and saw some real bright spots. Two of my best players are very athletic and left footed. 3-4-3 in high school? I covered a lot of high school soccer this fall and can't recall a 3 defender formation off the top of my head and certainly not a 3-4-3. Some teams went 3-5-2 for stretches of games, but I haven't seen a 3-4-3. I was kind of hoping to see something like that just for variety. What some coaches call variety is playing with a flat back four instead of using a sweeper. You must have a very progressive varsity coach. Is soccer a winter sport in Texas? I can only dream of such a thing haha. The weather for one thing, but to not have to compete with football for the best athletes would be nice. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Jennifer Connelly was a big boobed bimbo? When did this happen? Every role I have ever seen her in has been dramatic more or less That's what I was thinking. I'm not an expert on her career, but I never viewed her that way.

WTF, you guys ruined a perfectly good discussion on Samuel L. Jackson with talk about Christina Ricci. Shame. Pulp Fiction is the easy number one for me, but after that it gets tough. He's a secondary character in a lot of movies I really loved. For movies he had a big part in it's between Jackie Brown and Unbreakable. I'll always stop to watch Iron Man and Kill Bill if they're on cable somewhere, but he's barely in them.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 04:41 AM) Good Luck to the people who enjoy The Walking Dead. Hope it keeps entertaining you. I think I am out. I gave it the first season and the first 3 episodes and it just hasn't pulled me in outside of that Herd scene in the premiere. Acting is awful and most of the characters are uninteresting. Time for me to see other people. In fairness the first season was only 6 episodes so this is basically still the first season where character development hasn't completed. Shane has totally changed as we've seen the show and that's something that probably helps the show going forward. I like the development of Daryl surprisingly. He seems like a good character going forward. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) I'm gonna give it another episode or two, but I'm about over it as well. The first episode was ok, the second was awful, and last night was better but still pretty meh. It's too damned slow. I don't expect them to be chased by zombies and have incredible escapes EVERY episode, but geez, enough with Rick and his wife sobbing and crying. I had enough of that last week, why did they have to do it AGAIN? Every time they started talking I checked out and surfed the net on my phone. SO BORING. At least this episode they tried to cover some of the other characters, but so far these three episodes could have been combined into one. I agreed with Sepinwall too - the show needs to figure out the zombie rules. One scene they're running full speed, the next they can barely walk at a normal pace. Be consistent! The second episode was bad, too much crying and not enough doing. I felt like I was watching a zombie version of Lost with the flashbacks. I'll still watch because the episode cliffhangers are solid. The ending to this last episode is very encouraging. As for the inconsistent zombie speeds the creator of the comics said that it depends on when the person turned. If they died before the change could take effect their body wouldn't be able to move very well. If they died and shortly after turned they can move at a pretty decent clip. None of them are going to be all out sprinting, but they move.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) Heads, I don't know what the hell just happened. But at least use lube next time. It's called a letdown win from a team overperforming the week before. See Michigan State. Also, just realized this: USC is 6-1 with all their games against BCS conference teams and their only loss on the road to a ranked team. However, they are unranked. What world at we living in that USC is horribly underrated? Edit: nevermind didn't realize the polls couldn't vote for them due to sanctions. AP has them 20. That still seems low. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) I haven't heard enough about Saladinos defense but I wonder if he's going to be another Dayan where we have to move him around 3248329432 times to fit his bat in somewhere. He's supposedly decent in the field. I'm not sure if he's good enough to stick at SS, but I've heard he's close, which means he can probably play a fine second base.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) The wife finally caved on my ever not playing video games. We're in a generation where games absolutely are not for kids... they are interactive media and storytelling, and it's fantastic. I'll be playing games until I'm 80. The emphasis on story in games recently has drastically changed and I love it. Hopefully this means shooters are finally taking a back seat because many of them have weak stories and focus on multiplayer. Batman, Uncharted and AC being top tier titles is a great thing IMO. I'd probably play more shooters if they put more focus into single player. Crysis 2 was fantastic, but I beat it 3 times and sold it because the online play bored me. It's so hard to break into shooters online because they're all similar enough that someone new to online shooters has to go up against someone with years of heavy online hours experience.

Oh that's good. The Big 12, which is looking at only 9 schools in the near future to begin with, is going to create a network without programming from its 2 most high-profile schools. That's going to work well...
