QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) im backing JPN on this one...the absolute hottest I've ever been in my life was during the SEC tournament in birmingham....ive been in 100 degree heat a bunch of times in Dallas, and i promise the 94 or whatever it was in Bham that day felt like 115... and it wasn't even june yet The SEC Tournament is played at Regions Park, which is where the Barons play for anybody who didn't know. You can stand outside for only a few minutes and start sweating profusely. It only gets worse in July and August, that's why there are no more 11AM games after June.

This autographed broken bat I have just went up in value...hahaha! Image

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) No, but I have experienced a Pierre, SD summer. And am in the process of experiencing a Vermillion, SD summer. Birmingham, AL AVG temp in June - 87 high, 65 low, 76 mean Pierre, SD AVG temp - 81 high, 55 low, 68 mean Vermillion - 84 high, 57 low, 71 mean July and August don't get any cooler for both places. So I understand the experience. I still say... ...Quitter!!! The humidity makes it worse, it's been over 95 the past week. There's been an advisory out because of the stifling humidity.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Quitter! Have you ever experienced an Alabama June?

The Barons scored 11 runs after I left. I left before the start of the bottom of the 7th when it was 4-1 Jacksonville. It was too damn hot.

Former Birmingham Barons Manager Wally Backham Goes Ape-S*#t
JPN366 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in The Diamond Club
Yawn...he did that all time here. His brand of small ball that the Barons played under him was dubbed "Wally Ball." -
Now this is the very definition of irony... Article

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) He's good defensively, but that's it. Never has been a good hitter. Great defender, great range. Okay hitter, 7 hitter I think is his ceiling. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Seems to me Danks was rushed to AA last year, and AAA this year. Not really rushed to AA, he mostly did well when he was healthy last year. He definitely was rushed to AAA, he should have spent the first half in B'ham.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) Dayan is making this entire season slightly more worthwhile. I love watching him develop by the day. Also, Ian Gac is the new Seth Loman. I'm not sure who Seth Loman is now, but he's pretty good too. I don't understand how both haven't been promoted. Cut Kroeger from Charlotte, send someone up from B'ham and promote both of them.

Holy s**t! Morel's playing SS! Charlotte Box Birmingham Box Winston-Salem Off Kannapolis Box

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) How is a 27 year old utility guy who literally can't field any position, with a career .293 OPB going to be an improvement for this team? You think Teahen is awful in the field? Enjoying watching Jake Fox try to field a ball. Well, B'ham or Charlotte could use another power hitter.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) Wilkins is 2-4 so far in a game that is still going on in the 12th inning. His AVG is up to .282 (meh). Ross Wilson was 2-4 with a HR, but 'Bama lost and is out of the CWS. Ross finished with a .274 AVG, 9 HR, and 45 RBI. Best of three, they're playing today but getting hammered.

Plus, in "The Spirit," you have the mindf**k of seeing Samuel L. Jackson dressed as a Nazi.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) Hah, Kyle McCulloch was demoted back to AA. It's amazing to me that he was a first round pick.

When Flowers squares it up, it's like an explosion. Whomever told him to change that is a moron or a saboteur.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Winston-Salem-Leesman http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wilafa_wswafa_1 Leesman has sucked this year.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) "At the point where I've tried doing it their way this last month, sadly enough the numbers speak for themselves, and that way doesn't totally work," Flowers said. "I have to go back to the old me. I have to go back to my style of hitting, while implementing the little things Walk [White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker] and Kenny talked about. . I'm just trying to clarify something here. Who is the "Their" that he's talking about in the article? I'm asking because I believe that someone on this board has already stated that Flowers had a third party (not associated with the White Sox) try to alter his swing. Without knowing the whole interview, it could be interpreted as Flowers is giving up on the new swing that had nothing to do with Walker, or the Sox; and is going back to his old swing with some added suggestions from Walker & KW. Does anyone know for sure who persuaded him to change his swing? The devil.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Hudson's line: 6IP, 4H, 3ER, 3BB, 9K, 2HR 109 pitches. 68 strikes. Trade him, he can't pitch!

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) I picked College Football as well. It sucks for teams going undefeated and still not being able to play in a championship, especially when there could be a team with a loss playing for the trophy. The 2004 Auburn Tigers agree. Undefeated in the SEC, but overrated Oklahoma, with a loss in their conference championship, plays the cheating USC squad for the title. I'm glad the NCAA can't come down on the Seahawks, Pete Carroll be bringin' the throat slash to Seattle.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) We will know more when lineups are posted for the Sox - Cubs game. With the day off tomorrow and AJ having a day off Wednesday he should be in the lineup? Right? Or, if Salty's not playing in the Oklahoma City game.

Of course, when I think something is up, it's usually not.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Oh sure, drop this lttle nugget the day I planned on starting my diet. Guess it starts tomorrow. I think I've had 7 of them over the past week and a half. I've been ordering them large with extra cookies. I'm the one that needs to go on a diet.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Interesting, do you know how often they bench him the day game following a night game? The last off days he had were the 8th and the 4th, both night games. I'm not discounting the day game after a night game day off of course though. But, he has been hot with the bat lately, do you really sit him? Lucy's scuffling, but hitting second for some reason. In the minors, batting orders aren't like they are in the majors as much. Sometimes, when they want guys to get more at bats, they bat them higher. Unless they are adjusting to a new level, like Morel. Lucy batting second is just as much evidence of something potentially being up with Pierzynski as Flowers sitting. To be fair though, Lucy has batted second a few times before sporadically. Charlotte also has an open roster spot FYI.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I think Sweeney is a case of "He was never going to succeed in Chicago". I remember him saying he wish he a starting pitcher so he didn't have to play everyday. That sort of thing. Trading him was the right thing. I don't look at him and wish he was still on the team. I wasn't impressed by him in 2005, but I think he was overmatched that year as well.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Just an off day, I'm sure He was off on the 11th.
