  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I'm the same way. Never understood poetry nor got into it. My last semester at SIU, I need 3 hours of an elective, so was convinced by a female friend to take Shakespeare with her. I had no clue what I was reading. I really tried as well. I had to rent the movies to get plot points down, never understood the dialogue. The fact that I put forth the effort made me feel good though. I showed up everyday, participated, squeaked out a C. I took it and graduated. Did you hit it?
  2. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) Okay so tomorrow I have to do a persuasive speech. Anyone got any good topics? Discuss how awesome indecisiveness is or might not be.
  3. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) That's some funny stuff! Heh, I feel vindicated by the crappiness we've seen ever since from BMac, as well as Danks being super cool awesome.
  4. LOL @ Iowa State. I'm about done with basketball here. Greg McDermott is a f***ing hack.
  5. We no longer have the Irish one.
  6. Yeah, Vilsack had no chance in the Iowa caucus, FWIW.
  7. I like Garza as well. I don't think he's worth one of our top offensive players and our top prospect.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) I don't disagree... But my point is that it's a horrible attempt by this group. This is getting a bit off tangent, but it shouldn't be a difficult question to answer for anyone who truly believes in their maker, or what have you. But, that's more than I'd want to think about a billboard.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) I think Dye and Poreda for Garza is a bit much, but it's a package that can be worked with, depending on what Tampa sees in Poreda too of course. That's definitely a bit much, especially considering the offensive dropoff we'd face.
  10. Eh, if you're willing to allow ads promoting a religion, you should be willing to allow ads promoting atheism. That's just my simple thought.
  11. Ha, spectacular, he reads Soxtalk. Hope he enjoys overreaction. BTW, It'd be pretty f***ing awesome if we had a lineup that include Danks, Quentin, Beckham and Alexei in a couple of years. And a staff anchored by Buehrle, Danks and Floyd. That'd be swell.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Hey, they had to beat Kentucky to the punch probably This is McDermott's second pre-HS playing commit.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Lieberman will be a reliable vote on social issues for the Democrats, they probably figure there are better uses of their political resources as there will certainly be some battles on budgetary issues. Obama might consider that Lieberman could actually do some across the isle work to help him get his policies going; as a shrewd politician he may see some potential benefit from using restrain. Which is saying a lot, considering that Lieberman gave a big speech at the GOP convention and completely supported Obama’s opponent. Oh and Obama might not want to lose any possible Joementum, as heads22 would say. It's undeniable....the effects.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) AH ok. Soeme day you will have to make it to one of the really big football tailgates like LSU, Ol Miss, Georgia, OSU, Texas, PSU, Wisco etc, they are truly out of control if you havent been to one before. Rutgers is good and all but its situated in probably one of the top 5 crappiest cities in America and isnt really what you'd call a football crazy university. I remember my first real big school tailgate experience and wondering how that many fans were able to purchase and customize large school buses. And im talking in the 100's. Tailgating and drinking is half the experience - i.e. the one thing Iowa State apparently doesn't suck at.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) On the other hand, Augustana sucked. Eww.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) You'd be thrilled if ISU had a coach that has accomplished what Ferentz has. It isn't even a debate, we'll see what happens in basketball as Lickliter continues to get his guys in but in football there is no argument. Sure you won some head to head but last I looked Iowa has churned out bowls most every year under Ferentz and will do so again this year and hopefully they'll finish in the rankings. THe arrests all happened very early in the season and it sounds like Iowa has really put the hammer down. Oh and need I mention that pretty much every major conference college team will have a year or two where they have arrests and crap like that. Not making excuses cause its pathetic regardless, but just saying. Ferentz' son was arrested a couple of weeks ago. It's still an ongoing problem. There is no reason Iowa should ever lose to us, period, and you know that.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Iowa is quietly getting back to being pretty good and I find it hillarous how the only thing you can point at is Iowa State beating Iowa a few times. Last I looked Iowa has completely kicked ass during the Ferentz era when compared to the Clones, but than again so have most programs And I'm happy Kirk stays. The ship has been righted and is heading back in the right direction. He's what, 4-6, against Iowa State? The man has a horrible time beating us with superior facilities and, in most cases, talent. And I don't think 21 arrests, including his son, from 07-08 is righting the ship. I hope he stays there forever, cause he's certainly not worth the money he's getting paid.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) f***ing Sweet...Hawkeyes have been pretty solid. Only losses have been to quality opponents (yes, I'm going to call the Illini a quality team) and none of the losses have been by a large margin (should have beaten Pitt, and I tip my cap to MSU/Illinois). I just hope Stanzi can continue to develop and turn into something next year (since Greene should be back). At least it keeps Ferentz in Iowa City. He still has one hell of a time against Iowa State, and while they can win when they come in motivated like they did last year, things figure to be different next year.
  19. Iowa State athletics needs to jump off a bridge.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) I am not sure where to put this, but, there are definite Sox connections. So a promoter ran this "Million Dollar Arm" deal in India. They don't really play a lot of baseball there, but they do play cricket. The idea was to try to find raw talent - guys who could consistently throw 85 mph or better. They found at least two they liked, and now those two are trying out in front of reps from 20 of MLB's teams (unclear if the Sox are among them, but I hope so). This article has more details. One fun Sox note - one of the players loves watching Jim Thome hit, apparently. I'd love to see the Sox go after some of these non-traditional nation markets. India has a billion people and a lot of good cricket players, so you'd think there is some raw talent there. Other latin countries not usually addressed, like maybe Haiti. Countries just getting into baseball like Australia. I wonder what if anything the Sox are doing that way.
